How lucky were we...

...to have booked at this small welcoming hotel. Not easy to find but the GPS got us there without a problem. This place has the best of both worlds. It is located in the countryside with peace and quiet without giving up comfort, air condition and a great pool. You are only a 4 minute drive to the town of Sarlat full of life, entertainment and many great restaurants. We will definitely recommend to all our friends and family!
Beautiful Location, Fantastic Customer Service

We arrived in Sarlat on a late September evening after a long, crowded train ride. We called the hotel and spoke with the owner, Mme Mottet. She immediately offered to have some one pick us up at the gare. The hotel was about a 5 minute drive from downtown. We found the property beautiful and we wish our stay could have been longer. We were a ride to dinner at a restaurant that was recommended to us by the Mottets and were given a ride there by Daniel. In the morning, we had a nice breakfast and Daniel took us to pick up our rental car. Our room was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. This is an extremely welcoming hotel and we would most certainly stay there again.

The Mas de Castel is a splendid getaway location and a great base for long days driving and wandering around highways and byways of the wonderful Dordogne and Périgord. Set your GPS for Chemin de Sables and follow the hotel’s signs through the lanes to their spread on the southern side of Sarlat, clustered around a fine pool where children may dominate by day but there’s plenty of calmer time early and late. There’s a friendly welcome and rooms are ample, although a little short on windows and natural light. Breakfast is a payable option but it’s a long way into town and the room rate is very reasonable and the patio area a pleasant place to start the day.
Beautiful hotel in Sarlat

The hotel is located just outside Sarlat centre - very close by. The location is secluded, quiet and beautifully landscaped. The room was spacious and with a private access to a patio. The breakfast options for 11 euros are excellent (salty and sweet items like, cheese, ham, croissants and fresh baguettes) Beautiful heated pool. Very helpful and smiling staff. I really recommend the place. Good value for the price. Room does not have any fridge or drinks options (no tea or coffee machine) but this is fine. The hotel has a bar with very good options for a reasonable price. Parking is free.
Nice hotel but needs drink making facilities in room

This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Easy access to Sarlat and Le.Clerec etc. Pool is lovely, location is quiet. Car required. The owner and staff are lovely and friendly. Very clean and beautiful. BUT, there are some simple and cheap improvements that would make such a massive difference to anyone’s stay. What would make this hotel perfect would be tea and coffee making facilities in the room, a mini bar or fridge etc. I have never stayed in any hotel, b&b or Gite in any country that does not have the facility to make yourself a drink of any sorts. We arrived at 8:30pm from an hour and half flight and 2hr drive and we could not make a drink. Or even enjoy a bottle of water with a biscuit. The bar in the hotel closes around 9pm, sometimes earlier, the bar tariffs are very reasonable but the measures are very small. We would buy our own bottles of water and wine, beer and snacks so that once the bar closes we could still enjoy a drink but the weather was very hot so we could not chill the drinks and prevent the chocolate from melting. We bought ice and cool bags but this still was not adequate. If there was a refrigerated mini bar stocked with wine, beer, snacks, water etc we would have used it and been happy to pay. We bought quite a few bottles of wine from the bar during our stay. We would have paid a few extra ££ per night to enjoy coffee making facilities. The only other thing was that the beds and pillows were not the most comfortable. Despite my points raised above this is a fantastic hotel and we would return. Hopefully, when we do there will be drink facilities in the rooms 😁
