Lovely, friendly place

Reviewed 10 november, 2022

We stayed at the Weston, Scarborough for a couple of days. Things were very positive right from the moment we booked. I explained that I had mobility difficulties and straight away I was offered an alternate way to enter the hotel to avoid steps. I didn't have to use this, but the offer, from the lovely man who booked us in, set the tone for our visit. We had a lovely welcome from the lady on Reception and were allocated a great room with a sea view. The room was very large with loads of storage. It was very clean and well equipped with plenty of seating and a neat little shower room. There is parking directly outside and the hotel issues parking permits. At this time, which is low season, the dining room was not open in the evening but there was plenty of information about local eateries. There is plenty of choice for breakfast. We had a full English, and to say it was generous is an understatement! It kept us going all day, no lunch needed. There is a small bar that we used as well as a library, so plenty places to sit, read or play cards as we did after getting back from dinner in town. The hotel is high above the town, but there are cliff lifts which makes the hotel very accessible. This was a very pleasant place to stay in all respects and the staff were the icing on the cake. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Quiet location with amazing sea view

Reviewed 15 september, 2022

The Weston is located on the quiet Esplanade with excellent views to the left over South Bay. My wife and I had a room on the top floor which was warm through the night even in September. However, we were able to sleep with the window open with no outside noise apart from the soothing sound of sea waves. It is a good 20-minute walk into town, but buses run along Filey Road which runs parallel to the Esplanade a few minutes' walk away behind the hotel. (The number 7 and 10 buses go to Westborough in the town center.) Reception staff Vanessa and Sam and hotel owner Pat were very helpful and dining room staff friendly. Plentiful breakfasts were cooked to order. Rooms are only serviced on request due to Covid restrictions, but tea tray supplies can be picked up adjacent to Reception. I can recommend the Italian restaurant Tuscany Too about 5 minutes' walk away down to the end of Esplanade Road, which is adjacent to the hotel, but booking is essential. In town there is a Brewers Fayre (Carousel) and a Wetherspoons together with several restaurants. I can recommend the Harbour Cafe for a lunch bite.

Beside the sea

Reviewed 12 september, 2022

We booked for four nights in a sea view room on the second floor which was spacious and comfortable. The view of the sea from the sash windows was lovely. The room had heavy curtains which we were pleased with, as so many hotels don't provide this. We asked at reception if we could possibly have a firmer pillow for my husband and were advised that housekeeping may be able to provide one. However we didn't get a response so perhaps it was overlooked. Unfortunately, we are fairly light sleepers so the floor creaking constantly above us meant that we didn't sleep very well. This is probably due to the age of the building though. All the staff were very friendly and helpful at the hotel and the breakfasts were very good.

Hospitality is awful for single parents!

I wanted to move to a sea view room as I didn’t like the room we had, I didn’t expect inland means “brick wall” So I checked to see what else was available online & they had 2 sea view rooms available! I asked at reception with in minutes of seeing the room to move, they said nothing was available but go back in the morning to see what they could do! The next morning the two rooms were still available so excited we could move, but they still insist they had nothing available! I even got a friend to ring to see if they had available & thy said they had! I had booked to stay 3 days but checked out on our 2nd day as my so & I just didn’t feel comfortable staying in a room looking at a wall! We booked another hotel with a fabulous sea view room & enjoyed another 4 days exploring the beautiful Scarborough beaches & rural areas!

A gem of a hotel

A lovely modernised Victorian hotel in a quiet and convenient part of Scarborough. Room was clean, modern and with a splendid sea and town view. So special to wake to sound of waves. Friendly and helpful staff. Parking with a card in front of hotel. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.
