Average but you get what you pay for...

We actually stayed here twice, but TA doesn't let you write separate reviews for obvious reasons.
When we arrived in the evening, we got our keys, drove to the back of the hotel, went inside (the door was locked, used our keys) and when we got all the way to our room neither of the keys worked. We went alllll the way back to the front desk (big property) and then got new keys, all the way back and they worked. We settled into our room and realized that there were no sheets for the sofa bed. We called down to the front desk who said that they would arrive shortly. 30 mins later and we call down again. The lady says that the housekeeper had said they dropped off the sheets (nothing outside the door). Now we're all in PJ's and we need to go to the front desk in our PJ's.
We finally got to bed. The next day, we realized that the Microwave didn't work. The decor was... dated. We had a small balcony overlooking the pool. There is no fan in the bathroom and the shower temp goes like 100º if you turn it just a little. We realized that there were 2 towels in a room with 3 beds. We went down to the desk and got more towels. We checked out and came back later.
When we checked in in the afternoon, we came prepared and asked for towels and sheets at check-in. When we got to our room (different one than before) the keys worked fine (phew!) and so did the microwave. As dated as the other room, still no fan in the bathroom. We had a patio that was facing the pool. When we went to the pool the hot tub was hot and the pool was pretty warm as well. This hotel has a nice location on Shea Blvd easy to access Scottsdale and Fountain Hills.
Overall this hotel was average and the service was below average. The price was nice and because they just changed hands from Courtyard to Sonesta, there were probably some communication issues.

Hopefully they are on the road to recovery. They are no longer managed by Merriott, perhaps because they did not meet standards? VERY CONVENIENT to the Mayo Clinc so if that is your overriding goal a good choice. They also extended our stay there due to additional Mayo appointments which is a BIG positive. They have a laundry but I have no idea how long it has been since they cleaned it. Stairs were never cleaned during our week stay. Outside garbage overflowing. Housecleaning they said only once a week due to Covid. The front desk had towels, etc. Short story: The only reason I would stay there again was proximity and accommodation to the Mayo Clinic. Otherwise unimpressive.
Gross and old.

The reviews don't lie. It smells like a nursing home. They start you with 3 towels in the bathroom if you are lucky and a half roll of toilet paper. I wouldn't use the stove, it looks like it's from 1950. The carpets are so gross be sure to wear your shoes only god knows whats on them. And to top it off we were woken by a fire alarm at 2:30 in the morning...atleast we know they work.

Just checked into our room. Looked around the room, thought the room was clean. Everything seemed good until I looked at the carpet. Definitely wasn't vacuumed. Room looks decent. Bathtub needs to be updated with new caulking around the tub. Here for three days. Overall seems to be alright of a place. Bonus points: Close to shopping centers and restaurants. Not great, but a average stay.
