This hotel combines traditional, old-fashioned hospitality with perfection in the areas of cleanliness, quality of food, well-funcioning facilities (wifi, bathrooms, pool, sauna, 'wellness), friendliness of staff. Everyone speaks English and is more than 'just helpful'.

A Most Magical Experience!

Reviewed 3 january, 2022

Had Eloise visitied the Waldhaus Sils, she never would have returned to the Plaza in New York City. We stayed here four nights with our children and we are still swooning from the romance of it all. You want everyone you know and love to experience the way a hotel can be run and I wanted to hug every owner and staff member upon leaving. The place is lovingly run with such excellence and hospitality. It feels a bit like you've traveled back in time to an era where hotels were more authentic, when things came directly from the heart and with great style. The live orchester, after-dinner drinks and family games we played, the sleigh ride into the Fex valley, the conversations with other lovely guests we met, the spa, the incredibly lovely service at dinner from Roberto and that breath-taking view of Sils and the mountains from our room will be family memories forever. I hope we are lucky enough to be able to return. The Waldhaus is a truly special place.

A True Great Among the Grands

Reviewed 19 september, 2021

This fairytale grand hotel perched on a hill with exquisite lake and forest views is one of the most enchanted places we have ever stayed. From the moment of arrival, the service and personal attention was unparalleled. After a year of vacationless COVID isolation, we booked a four-day package plan with meals in the hotels three restaurants. On arrival, we were truly touched to be personally met at the desk by a member of the hotel's founding family. We talked about how we head heard about the hotel, and we were astonished to be presented with a beautiful hardcover book about the history of the hotel which is very worth reading. There was no sense that this was a perfunctory greeting. It was genuine interested outreach by a family who love their hotel, and want to know what makes people visit. The atmosphere is elegant Art Nouveau – late 19th early 20th century. Vast high-ceilinged hallways with private sitting areas where guests can make themselves comfortable and read a book while enjoying the views. It is a place from another time, a time of leisure and luxury, and reflection. There is a beautiful spa. My husband enjoyed relaxing in the whirlpool and had what he said was the most delightful pedicure / foot massage of his life. The attentiveness of the concierge desk it particularly to be noted. From helping us to return a key we had forgotten to return to our previous hotel in Andermatt, to aiding us when we lost an iphone in a local restaurant, they went above and beyond. We felt we had returned to another time of genuine service by people who were proud to be a part of a grand tradition. A couple of notes. Dogs are welcome in the rooms, but not allowed on the furniture and not allowed in the dining rooms. A special dog mat is laid out in the rooms to welcome them. We were at first fearful our year-old Chihuahua – on his first hotel visit – might be naughty. But he seemed to totally grasp that this was a special place and was incredibly well behaved even when left alone in the room. He didn’t even try to jump on the bed after being instructed once that it was not his place. The desk staff always said hello to him and petted him, remembering his name as we passed through the lobby. He strutted proudly through the hotel as though he knew this was a very special place and he had to be on best behavior. We actually appreciated in the end that we could not take him to the dining room – it made it quieter and less distracting for us. But we are noting these restrictions to avoid surprises for dog lover travelers. Our package included breakfasts and all of our dinners for four nights. We had one dinner in the Arvenstube, the hotel's fine restaurant, two pension meals in the hotel’s elegant main dining room, and one dinner in the chic and modern Giger restaurant in an adjacent building. The breakfasts were outstanding. There is a vast array of breads, cheeses, charcuterie, fruit, and fruit juices. One of my absolute favorite things was the fact that the fruit juice area includes a little flask of pressed ginger juice that you can add to your morning fruit juice. An amazing special touch. You can also order eggs benedict, omelets or eggs prepared anyway you would like them, all included. The service is impeccable, and the room is incredibly elegant. Breakfast was a special moment. We loved this hotel, and hope to return, but we have one critique. The food in the main dining hall – despite the fabulous atmosphere and service - was indistinct and a bit institutional. I must emphasize that we were so happy sitting there – it was relaxing, and grand, and the service team were incredible. It was an amazingly relaxing way to end the day. Sitting in the high-ceilinged rooms, surrounded by families and guests who clearly had been returning for years – so much atmosphere. The sommelier introduced us to an Italian wine we will seek out again. But sadly from the menu there was not a single dish that I remember as distinctive. The same was true in the Giger restaurant where we ate on the first evening. Nothing was bad. But it was all somewhat bland and not inspired. I am sad to write this because everything else was utter perfection. Our package also included a dinner in the hotel’s Arvenstube. This meal was absolutely outstanding – Tadellos as one says in German. I remember every detail, and the service was outstanding (the service was outstanding everywhere). We would still hope to return – this place is unique - hence our five stars. But we genuinely hope that the culinary offering in the main dining hall can be taken up a notch. Above all, thank you, Hotel Waldhaus, for four very special days that we will always remember.

Waldhaus Sils Maria

Reviewed 26 august, 2021

A beautiful Art Nouveau hotel like a "fairytale castle", nestled in the forest, adjacent to the Fex Valley , the most romantic of the Engadine. If you are tired and fed up with the crowding of Sankt.Moritz, Sils Maria is the ideal place to forget the daily stress. From here you can go and visit the whole Engadine, on foot or by public transport, as the hotel management provides you with a card for all means of transport (cable cars, chairlifts, trains, buses). As soon as we arrived at the hotel we were greeted at the reception with professionalism and human warmth. We were invited to the lounge bar and were immediately offered coffee and fresh water. The kindness and friendliness of the staff has remained in our hearts. The room was spacious, bright with a view of the Silvaplana Lake. We chose half board and we recommend that you choose this option, as the food is truly fantastic. Good quality breakfast, a wide range of carefully chosen, high quality products for all tastes. The wonderful dinners, different from one evening to the next. Congratulations to the cooks and the waiters. When we returned from our hikes from the mountain, we let ourselves be pampered by the 3 whirlpools, one of the 3 open under the blue or gray sky depending on the climatic condition. The large indoor swimming pool with windows looking towards nature. Saunas are great at different temperatures and types. In the garden, you have the opportunity to lie down, read a book and sunbathe. We were really impressed with the "Waldhaus Castle". I will attach the photographs and videos designed to all those who have never been to this fairytale place, or to people who have already been, and wish to virtually relive these emotions. Thanks to all the staff for your attention.
