Good location, poor customer service

You’ll want your accommodation to be more understanding than this hotel. We had to leave a day early due to a snowstorm. We were in the car at 12, but couldn’t get a refund us because checkout was 11. I asked for a hotel credit so I could come back - still no - even though there was vacancy. Business is business, but at the end of the day the lack of empathy from the staff is why I’m writing this review. She was cold. It’s not like I wanted to cut my ski trip short! I’d recommend finding a hotel that understands life happens!
Convenient and iconic motel on the Yampa, good for dogs, sort of.

This was a two night stay for our first trip to Steamboat. The location is very convenient to walking downtown and very convenient to the Core Trail for walking or biking (note...we saw a bear on the trail from our balcony across the river...). Large parking area. It was nice to have a balcony with 2 chairs on our balcony to enjoy the Yampa. They are dog-friendly but have a strict regulation about not leaving the dog unattended in the room. I'm not sure how this works for most people and it is definitely a more stringent policy than most hotels where we stay. Would have been important to know before signing up for this motel. Most motels ask for crates or just give notice if your dog causes a disturbance....whatever...Also, if you stay here, look closely at the photos online or on TA as the rooms have different configurations of furniture and not all will work for you. We were in the room with two queens and then two additional twin beds which we did not need and were just obstacles and a poor substitution for a couch. A small chair at the desk but no comfy chair to sit and read. Next time we will ask for a room with a sofa or a chair. Also, although the photos on the site seem like the rooms are well-lit, we walked in to a very dark space...walls seemed dark, coverlets dark, carpet dark. It was actually a bit depressing. Nonetheless, this is not to dissuade you from staying here...we would stay again if we didn't have a dog. But discuss which room you desire to see if it is available. Maybe a room with 4 beds might be just what you need for your family. Also...in regards to dogs, their stairways are open metal grating with ridges...the type you see at ski areas. Great for winter, but dogs hate these stairs as they are painful on the paws. Again, if traveling with a dog, request a room in which you do not have to access via these painful steps. This may seem negative but we did enjoy the location.
For a 2-star hotel, Rabbit Ears definitely rates a 5

Great front desk. Room fine. Shower big enough for 2! Excellent wifi. Location within walking distance of everything we needed. Eye-popping value for the price of lodging in Steamboat Springs. We didn't try the breakfast. Also, we didn't bother to pay extra for the river view.

Fabulous property located a few blocks from downtown. Had a very clean room. Staff was friendly and eager to help us with everything to do in Steamboat. We were very happy with our stay and would come back again.
Well appointed motel on the Yampa River

Located on the main drag of Steamboat Springs within easy walking distance to downtown and to the urban walking trails. Comfortable beds, clean surroundings, and good towels and amenities. A good continental breakfast available in the morning. If possible, get a room that is on the river, suspect rooms close to the road might be noisier. A good place to stay - not fancy, but a lot more than adequate.
