Beautiful Boutique Hotel (9 rooms)
Very beautiful boutique hotel with a very personal touch. Most of the rooms with a great view overlooking the city, a couple in the back overlooking gardens. Golf course right there, very nice soa with jacuzzi. The restaurant one if the best in the City.
No hot water!!
The vista suite is lovely. It’s very spacious and the view is amazing. However, there is little to no hot water at any given time. If you like cold showers and cold water in the jacuzzi, this is the place for you. The private jacuzzi isn’t a hot tub like I thought it was. It’s essentially a jacuzzi bath tub. It was chilly outside our first night, so getting in a cold jacuzzi wasn’t an option. The swimming pool wasn’t very clean and the water was freezing. We couldn’t handle it. The “hot tub” was room temperature and malfunctioned while we were in it (it started to drain) and the jets were spraying hard above the water). The restaurant and bar was empty and unattended the entire time we were there. We had to order at the front desk. The bar had no vodka, so I couldn’t order my favorite drink. There is no laundry service or laundromat. They offered to have someone come and pick up our laundry and bring it back the next day. Six pieces of laundry was $20 America dollars. The staff is friendly and helpful, but dishonest about the water situation. When we complained that there was no hot water, they kept saying “it will be hot in ten minutes.” They didn’t admit they always have problems with their hot water nor did they apologize. They eventually told us another room used too much hot water. We had one partially hot shower. It took about 15 minutes to get hot. The water was cool to cold the rest of our stay, though. When we asked if they’d consider giving us a discounted rate for the first night because there was no hot or warm water, they literally laughed out loud in our faces. They said they’d take $5 off the laundry bill. For the rate we paid (around $300/night), we expected basic amenities like hot water in the shower, jacuzzi, and hot tub. The view is incredible, but I would have never decided to spend my birthday here if I knew about the water and restaurant/bar situation. I will stay elsewhere next time I visit Taxco. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.
Poorly Managed and Not Worth It!
I normally don't have the time to write reviews, but this one really seemed necessary. I would agree with the other reviews that the views are great and the staff seemed very nice though completely clueless. It was overpriced and a big let down. We arrived to the hotel mid day during stormy weather and had mentioned we'd probably have dinner there. I had been looking forward to the hot tub and spa and relaxing there during the storm. The spa and hot tub were both under construction, but we were told we could get a massage in our room. I was a little bummed, but thought I must have missed something on the website and we made a reservation for the massage. It was just ok, but luckily we upgraded our room to one with a hot tub, so things were looking good. However, they left the massage tables in our room and we had to remove them ourselves. Strange but there are worse things, right? They're understaffed. I can manage that though we paid a lot of money to not be carrying our own massage tables around after a massage! At 9:00, normal time for dinner in Mexico, we left the room only to find all the lights in the hotel off, the restaurant and bar closed and a nice staff who told us they may be able to find something in the kitchen. So we waited. I figured just some cheese, bread, fruit, olives or anything would be fine. But they had nothing they could give us. Nothing! Luckily up the hill there was hotel with a restaurant open for another 20 minutes, so we went there. Fine. I said, No biggie. Then I asked for a bottle of wine. there was no list in a place that advertises as having fine dining and an exclusive wine selection. Ok...so I asked to see the selections. This time there was no red wine, only white and only two choices that were on top of the bar. Clearly, they do not educate their staff let alone tell them what they can serve. What kind of boutique hotel/restaurant doesn't tell their staff how to operate a bar??? That night my husband was sick, so I asked for some Chamomile or mint tea. Guess what? I was told they don't have any tea in the place. What?! What about people who don't drink coffee or caffeine? Don't they accommodate them? Or do they go in the dumpster along with red wine drinkers and people who eat after 8:00? They were nice about letting me look for it, nothing wrong with the staff, but come on people. Train them to know what they heck kind of experience your guests are paying for! As it turns out, In the morning, they had tea... Shortly after that we went to find a pharmacy and go into town. Due to my husband being sick we were debating leaving early to go home and get to the doctor, so I asked if there was any reimbursement possible. I knew this was a long shot, but specified that maybe just the room upgrade would work. Nothing. Ok...I knew it was a long shot. So we decided to play it by ear since we had to pay anyway and it wasn't an emergency. Upon return, there was banging and construction inside the hotel accompanied by a mild smell of chemicals and non stop noise in the bar area next to the restaurant where we did have dinner that night. Luckily the noise stopped about 10 mins after we sat down. Again, poor management, can't you wait another day until you have no guests to start indoor construction or at least end it before dinner?! Our server who was also the chef and dishwasher was lovely and did a good job cooking, but didn't even know how to open a bottle of wine. Not his fault...management please!!! Lastly, the breakfast that was included was just juice and a little fruit. we were told this after we ordered from the menu and ate. WTF??!! The people who work there are very kind, but this place is WAY overpriced and poorly managed. A big disappointment! I have seen other negative reviews and they all have the same response from management there. Something to the effect of "we're sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, but thanks for your feedback which will help us improve for the future." It's the exact same comment to everyone, probably cut and pasted from some document they have. So please, if you're reading this at the hotel, don't bother sending your generic response.
Stunning location. Stunning boutique hotel.
You won't find a hotel with a more stunning setting in Mexico. Just a handful of rooms, this converted luxury mansion is set on a steep hill overlooking the city of Taxco. Friendly service, great food, and a special ambiance made this a truly memorable stay. A must if you are in this area - and Taxco is itself easily worth making a trip to visit.
Hotel De Cantera y Plata – A hidden treasure in Taxco
This is a one of its of kind, inimitable boutique hotel surrounded by a golf course on one side and the sprawling white and red town on the other. Lush green gardens, colorful trees, heated outdoor pool and a jacuzzi got my heart beating. Oh and there were also not one but three turtles on the property :) De Cantera has luxury written all over it. The interiors of the hotel are tastefully done by some of the best designers. With the breath-taking views charming you right upon entry, it’s really very hard to match that and create a space inside the hotel where the visitors would want to spend time. But the owners, quite to my pleasant astonishment, have made sure that guests will never forget their experience once they have stayed at this property, indoors or outdoors. The hotel comprises of nine rooms and each one seems to be in superiority competition with the others. Most of the rooms are equipped with Jacuzzi’s either inside the room or on the terraces with unfathomable views. When you check in into this exceptional property you’re welcomed with a cocktail and a bunch of smiles. The staff here are very sweet and chivalrous and left no stone unturned in making my stay as pleasant as possible. And a special shout out to Tono for his wonderful reception and management of the property.
