Girls Trip
Overall, the service and experience was amazing. My only suggestion is for the resort to actually put alcohol in their all-inclusive beverages. Everything tasted like juice. Everyone was kind and friendly. Also, the beds are a bit uncomfortable.
Disappointed
The facility is old, service was slow and food was awful. Facility- it was dilapidate and in need of much repair. The first day we went to the beach and came back for a shower. Now this seems simple but, both the sink and shower were missed marked as to which side was hot and cold. We waited for it to warm up, however it was the wrong side. So we tried the other direction, the problem with that was it takes forever for the hot water to come, so you believe there is no hot water. So we decided to wait until morning to deal with it, not fun after a day at the beach. Only for them to come and explain this is a usual problem? Well... why not switch the two little DOTS. One blue one red... flip them? Then a sign that says give the hot water a few minutes. We don't get bugged by those things, but it seems so simple to fix. Once we were aware it was fine, but having sleep sweaty your first night on VK... not cool. The rest was just doors falling off around the complex, tables at meals that were broken etc... Service - Very nice people... but very slow. We were awakened 2 different mornings with knocks at the door thinking we were checking out that day, and the day we did check out.... no knock, lol. We did go as premier guests and we tipped at every meal and on the beach. We always do. Even though your tips are included and you don't have to. The beach butler SALVADOR was awesome. He deserves a raise. He knew our names and attended to us well. We took very good care of him as well. However, why is this not the standard for the price? Food- Dinner took hours to get food. Impossible to chips and guacamole. We had to almost beg for it. One little plate at a time. We would ask could you pls bring us a big bowl? more little plates. It was almost funny. The steaks were tough, I mean tough. Dessert's were out of a box. tiny portions etc.
Nice family resort
This resort caters to families and does a good job. The resort itself is quite large with a nice spa and modern lobby. They have a plaza close to the beach with a bar, retail shops and a coffee shop along with a Preferred Lounge. The beach was very nice and they kept it very clean of seaweed with workers going out to clean it up multiple times during the day.
A solid 4 Star Stay in Tulum
We stayed in the Preferred Club Hacienda Suite, which is the nicest part of the hotel. Very large room, very comfortable bed, and beautiful terrace. This room and our rate also qualified us for VIP services. Just to be clear, VIP really means access to a VIP lounge with slightly better drinks than anywhere else on the resort - we didn't otherwise get any VIP treatment during the stay and still had to navigate the confusing main hotel lobby for transportation, excursions, etc. The private tour they did help us book was wonderful (amazing local guide) I was very surprised the hotel had not taken more advantage of the beautiful outdoor space to provide more COVID friendly dining options. Some nights there were 2-3 tables in the entire resort available for outdoor dining. Masks were only required when entering dining facilities (they obviously understand indoor dining is the highest risk activity for COVID at the resort). If you are traveling during COVID and expecting outdoor dining options, look for other resorts. The room service was generally slow and should be avoided (flavorless, often wrong) . Food in the restaurants was very good; especially suggest you try the seafood options at each. The shows each night were very fun to watch! Decline the sales pitch and tour when you arrive, we saw lots of families painfully going through 90 minutes of it while you could tell they just wanted to be on the beach with a drink. The staff were very quick and efficient. We liked being here versus the busy/crowded Tulum hotel zone.
A Pandemic Era Stay in Tulum
If you are looking for a lush landscape, and protocols that are followed as to mask wearing with plenty of hand sanitization stations, Dreams Tulum may be your place to stay. With the exception of a hectic Cancun Airport, and a tour event that had a little too many people in the van for my family's comfort, for 5 days we enjoyed, sun, pool, beach, Sea and no news!
