My expectations were pretty low but the hotel did not exceed them. I should have known things were not great when I saw the torn quality inn billboard ripped and hanging off the rest of the sign. Staff wasn’t wearing masks, they checked in everyone right in a line on the ground floor so no distancing was possible. The room was decent. There were a pile of dead flies on the windowsill and some hair on towel but it was generally cleanish and the bed was comfy. Grounds needed a lot of work. Cigarette butts everywhere, bird nests (and poop) every time you look up. Place just looks like no one really cares anymore.
The staff were very nice and helpful. There is a lot of noise both from the freeway and the truck stop. Even if you stay in the back away from the freeway and on the side away from the truck stop expect significant noise. The breakfast was much better than usual and the rooms are nice. We stayed here for 5 nights and printer in the business center was out of ink for our entire stay. The bedding was nice and the bed was comfortable. Lots of tv channels.
Good basic hotel
Clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Friendly, helpful front desk staff. “Motel” style with exterior doors. Good included breakfast. Sadly, bath towels are so thin as to be almost threadbare, but still good value for the economy rate.
Overpriced place to stay
Upon check-in the gal behind the counter was extremely nice and wanting to offer assistance if needed. The hotel is overpriced for an average hotel at best. Nothing noteworthy about the place or remarkable. It was a place to spend the night, nothing more nothing less.
Better than expected!
We were trying to avoid the noise from (1) the train nearby and (2) the freeway also nearby; all the accommodations were close to one or the other. In our case the priority was avoiding the loud train whistle so many people commented on during the night. The Quality Inn was as good as it gets: train was farther away than the freeway. We were pleasantly surprised that with the door closed, the freeway noise was not bad. And the staff was pleasant, the breakfast better than expected, and the room was fine for the price we paid. It is definitely an older motel, but was clean. I doubt that there is a motel or hotel that is any more quiet at night in Van Horn.
