Overall Great trip
I was here last week for a conference. The fitness and pool area is fantastic. Banquet staff and selection was excellent. Fruit for breakfast. Sandwiches were good at lunch. Had a quick lunch in the restaurant, they were very accommodating for a basic meal. Drinks in the H Tasting Lounge great staff and excellent scotch selection.
Nicely situated and everything you need
Stayed 4 nights here and was really happy with the hotel. The staff were really nice, helpful and friendly and the rooms ( we upgraded to stay in Tower as our room was not ready on early arrival ) big, bed super comfy, bathroom good...although door does not actually fit the door opening ( same in our friends room? ). Breakfasts were awesome and facilities good. Just 2 mins walk to the boardwalk and a number of restaurants or 15 mins walk uptown and Gastown, Canada Centre etc. Views from the ocean to the mountains from our room.
Went to check-in, the agent was working on his computer and did not make any eye contact with me until at least 30 seconds. Then asked me to give him 2 seconds at least 45 seconds later he greeted me and I proceeded to check-in. I think if I had a robot checking me in I would have received better service. The agent did not bother to go over the facilities at the hotel, it was kind give me your credit card and here is your room key. Although I’m a Bonvoy member and my profile shows that my preference is high floor (I understand it is based on availability) he did not bother and give me a room on a bottom floor right beside the elevator. Bathroom amenities were missing body wash. The towel had holes in it and it was thin from all the usage, should have been replaced months ago. I thought the standard is to have two bottles of water in the room but I had only one. I also thought the room should have two bathrobes but only had one. The bathroom is outdated and in desperate needs for renovation. Bed side table was dusty. The TV mount wall does not swivel so if you are sitting on the far bed you are seeing the picture from an angle. It appears that the hotel is short staffed, employees looked stressed and no one is smiling, unless this is their service standard. I stayed at several Marriott Hotels (Westin, JW Marriott) and the Westin Bayshore is a 3 stars at best, very disappointing.
I recently visited the H Lounge, and the service we received from Angelina deserves to be recognized. We were outside in the domes, which I’m sure isn’t very convenient for staff. Angelina was like a magician! She just appeared at the exact moments we needed her, but also gave us enough space to catch up with friends. Just a top notch experience. The hostess that helped us, Chantel, was also fantastic. Walking us through she got us so excited for the evening.
Excellent- except for one thing
I wanted to preface this by saying that we are Marriott /Westin time share owners . We appreciate the level of service provided to us at their various resorts and hotels. This week-end we attended the Money Talks Conference at the hotel, this was the second year that we stayed at this great place. Everything from the check-in (with Lisa) to the Check-out (With Emily ) was excellent . The only problem we had was with Sunday Brunch. The hostess placed us at the absolutely worst table in the restaurant . It was in a very high traffic area next to the buffet. We asked to be moved because of this , and the response was a nonchalant response " We dont have anything else available." There was clearly other tables available on another level , but she couldn't be bothered to accommodate our two requests to move to another table. Emily apologized for the problem , but I told her that it wasn't her problem. We just came back from a 21 day vacation in Asia and this hostess ranks #1 in poor attitude /service in the people that we met during our holiday . Note that our server was excellent.
