It is a DUMP Go elsewhere. Not 2 star, let alone 3. Tiny DINGY room atop twisting staircase. Bathroom as big as an airplane toilet. Manager couldn’t find our reservation, which was written in pencil. Can hear person talking in next room.
We stayed at Hotel Locanda Canal for 4 nights in Venice. It was clean, comfortable, and homey. It was in a great location near San Marco square (5 min walk), restaurants, shopping, and tons of gelaterias (most of Venice has restaurants and gelato all over!) We had a triple room which was definitely tight for three people, not very spacious, as is the norm in Venice. The hotel had no elevator but had a functional one seat chair lift for elders to go up if needed. Hotel room had AC. No Kleenex (in case you’re wondering). Breakfast had fresh boiled brown eggs, milk, dinner rolls, toast, cereal, cheese, juice, butter, and jam. The assistant will make you a fresh coffee or tea. Eggs on buttered rolls were a sufficient breakfast for my long days of walking in Venice! Front desk staff were extremely polite and helpful, gave us lovely recommendations and were patient with our questions. While other service staff in Venice appeared a bit short/impatient, the hotel staff were the opposite. Loved this place for a 3-Star hotel class and would highly recommend.
Great location, dated hotel, mosquitos
For my 50th birthday my wife, on recommendation from our local travel agent booked the locanda hotel, once we finally found the hotel we were greeted warmly and taken to our too, (103) at the back of the hotel, next to the breakfast room. The room was, on first appearances, reasonable and we headed out after dropping our cases off. When we returned the room was very warm indeed. I struggled to sleep (this is despite their being air conditioning) and eventually opened a window and got some sleep. The following morning we woke up, eventually worked how to use the shower - which was half falling off the wall - and went for breakfast. The food was adequate but the room was extremely cramped to say the least. Night 2 we decided to leave the window open. Big mistake. I ended up with over 30 bites from mosquitos which we then spent an age killing. Other than this, the hotel was fine. The location superb and the staff friendly. Not the worst place I have ever stayed but a refurbishment would improve things
A tale of two nights
I desperately wanted to give this hotel a four star rating but unfortunately the second of our two nights was a disaster. First off - location is excellent, 3min walk to the Basilica and Square. Customer service was very friendly and efficient. On our first night we stayed in Room 104 - a large comfortable room. The decor throughout is tired and old fashioned but that’s Italy guest hotels for you - so being easy with that we had a great experience on day 1. Second day they politely advised we had to change rooms - not a big issue. Room 101 was smaller but we planned to be out sightseeing so no issue. Coming back in for the evening we discovered the heating was stuck on meltdown mode, the room was infested with mosquitos - literally we killed 20 and were kept up all night with the heat and buzzing. Next morning we woke up early, hot, sweaty and tired to discover the shower was totally broken - the tap literally fell off in our hands and there was no water apart from the basin. We were in a hurry to leave but got no apology.
Nice room with Canal views. Breakfast included. Delicious cappuccino and basic breakfast. Bed was firm and great for sleep. Bathroom a little cramped and yes breakfast area was also a bit cramped but overall a good experience. The small spaces are to be expected in my opinion. Very high ceilings though and beautiful architecture. Definitely enjoyed my stay and the proximity to everything we wanted to do, especial San Marco square.
