Could be a beautiful hotel … but

I stayed at this hotel after a cruise and was looking forward to it but was disappointed. The hotel lacked atmosphere . The breakfast was okay. There was nowhere to have a drink or a coffee even though the library pictures showed people having coffee in the courtyard and it was advertised as having a bar. The room was spacious as was the bathroom but there were holes in the curtains , not good for a fairly expensive hotel which was supposed to be 4 star.

3 night stay in Venice

We stayed at this hotel in a canal view delux room for 3 nights last week, we had previously stayed at the hotel 3 years ago also. This time we found the staff unhelpful, the hotel is very dated, the carpets are very dirty, the toiletries in the bathroom are basic as is the breakfast. The hotel has a good location and has a water taxi stop directly outside however there are no other good points. The air conditioning in our room didn't work, we were told it was turned off permanently due to the "emergency" electricity supply, the toilet was difficult to flush and didn't work properly on occasions. When we checked in we asked for assistance using the safe deposit box in the room as it had been blocked and we could not enter our safe code to operate the safe deposit box, the 1st staff member told us we had to use an 8 digit code with the digits 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, as we said this was not a safe code the 2nd staff member called to the room and told us to use our own 4 digit code which worked. The staff didn't seem to know what to do when you asked them for assistance. The hotel has a small garden area outside the front door however this area is full of weeds and not comfortable to sit in. Overall I could not recommend this hotel.

Stellar location but poorly maintained

Having previously stayed here in a suite in 2019 we knew pretty much what to expect, and some things have remained constant. The location is perfect and the bed is very comfortable and all the linen and towels are very clean and in excellent condition. The breakfast is pretty decent and some of the breakfast staff are friendly and attentive. However, this time some things are a little different..... Upon arrival, we were allocated our room (104). The electronic key didn't work, so back to the desk. When we did eventually gain access, it was evident that there were quite a few problems with the room. The mirror fronted wardrobe was badly cracked and looked about to fall apart, the curtains were torn and there was a large chunk missing out of the shower tray leaving a jagged edge. Aside from this the fan in the bathroom was about as quiet as a 747 at take-off and the carpet throughout was very badly stained. The safe in the wardrobe also could not be made to work. It was agreed we could change rooms the next day. Our new room (105) although a little better still has a number of significant defects... Handles missing off bedside cabinets, cracked light fittings, missing handles from the wardrobe, one curtain missing. Admittedly, this was decorative rather than functional, but it looked rather "low rent". In the bathroom various elements (tissue box, etc) that have previously been glued to the wall have come adrift. These are now just left lying around the bathroom. It was easy to see their previous location as there has been no attempt to clean the glue residue from the tiles. There is also some mould in the grouting in the shower cubicle and the shower doors don't exactly open and close easily. At some point there has been a substantial and persistent water leak and the bottom of the bathroom door surround is rotten with flaking wood. The bathroom door is also difficult to close. In the bedroom the carpet is very badly stained. It desperately needs cleaning thoroughly or, better still, replacing. It is apparent that the 'out of sight' areas are never cleaned adequately. Corners of the bathroom are quite dusty as are skirting boards and the top of light switches and the top of the TV. There were instances throughout our two week stay where all of the room keys were just left out on the front desk for guests to help themselves along with a sign giving a telephone number in case of difficulty. In the complete absence of staff, anyone could have gained access to guest's rooms. Given the number of people we saw in the hotel garden eating take-away food, there is the real potential for anyone to simply wander in and help themselves to keys left lying around. If this was a 2* Pensione I would be far more accepting of this. However, this is a 4* hotel and the standard should reflect this. All thing's considered, given the cost involved, this is unforgivable. Some of the front of house staff clearly just do not care and have no interest whatsoever in guest comfort or satisfaction. This is such a pity as with a little attention to detail this could be a spectacular hotel and despite all the aforementioned shortcomings, it wouldn't take much to turn it around. It is obvious from the state of the two rooms we stayed in, there is a complete lack of any programme of maintenance or refurbishment. Interestingly, we noticed in room 104 the broken wardrobe mirror had not been replaced two weeks later which rather reinforces the lack of maintenance. In summary, this has been a poor experience and one which I will not be repeating. I

Disappointing, It could have been perfect

A beautiful building located on the Grand Canal next to the Ca'doro vaporeto station. We had booked a delux room with canal view for our 30th wedding anniversary, the view was perfect and the room had been lovely in it's day but was lacking in maintenance, the carpet was filthy, the air conditioning leaked onto the floor soaking the carpet, the safe didn't work and the room smelt damp. I reported this to reception in the morning expecting the air con and the safe to be fixed when I returned at the end of the day. They had stopped the leak by switching off the aircon leaving the room way too hot and had done nothing about the safe. Fortunately, the lady on reception in the early evenings was fantastic and she gave me a battery and I fixed the safe myself. She also switched the aircon back on and I had to put up with wet feet everytime I got out of bed for the rest of the trip. Not what I expected for the price I paid, this stay should have been perfect and this lack of maintenance spoiled it

City break

Spent 3 nights here and were not disappointed. The plus points. Location location location. Right on the Grand Canal, just 6 stops from bus station (airport) 5 stops from train station. Vapareto stop is right outside the hotel Friendly reception staff checkin was done in less than 3 mins. Room (205) certainly had the wow factor. You could glimpse the grand canal from the open window Just a few steps away from Main Street with shops bars and restaurants Breakfast was typical continental breakfast but sufficient to set up up for the morning Reasonable well sound proofed room Good WiFi. Throughout hotel Minor criticisms. The in-room shower room/toilet was up a flight of stairs. A bit of a pain if need to go in the middle of the night. We had to leave bathroom light on all night so as could find our way up to it Also a few steps up when you open the room door so clearly not suitable if you have any mobility issues The fridge was broken when we arrived but this was replaced. The hotel website states in room mini bar. There wasn’t one We were given bath foam but no bath and only given shampoo in last day We had our own so no big deal One power socket was broken so no bedside light on one side some of the light switches work but in need of repair They provide thin plastic cups which we broke 2 just trying to unwrap…. Not a good environmental issue There is a bar but never open however reception staff will get coffees and I assume other drinks if you ask Major issue. NONE Would we recommend YES Would we return. YES
