Porto City Visit
Stayed here for weekend visit. Nice hotel in a good location near the centre of the city. Staff very helpful and rooms very clean and spacious. Would probably stay in this hotel again if returning to Porto.
Nice and modern hotel located in Vila nova de Gaia just next to the Arrabida Bridge in a very convenient location. My room was comfortable, clean, silent and very well equipped. Breakfast was very good and staff always available and polite. Overall a good experience.
Recommended hotel on the outskirts of Porto
Everything was excellent. It started with a warm welcome. Large and spacious rooms and also the bathroom. Breakfast is full and very good. The wifi works well throughout the hotel and there is free parking right next to the hotel. Right in front of the hotel there is a huge shopping center called Arrábida Shopping.
Superior Customer Service at the Mercure Porto Vila de Gaia and Porto Portugal
My sister, my friend, and I spent five fabulous days at the Hotel Mercure Porto Gaia while exploring Porto independently as well as taking a few small group full-day tours of the Douro Valley, Fátima and Coimbra. We were extremely impressed by the attentive, friendly, and helpful staff members that we encountered at this hotel each and every day. Upon approaching the check-in desk, we were promptly greeted by Ana who welcomed us, assigned our rooms, and provided us with a map of the city on which she indicated where we could pick up our Uber ride and circled a few places that we wanted to visit during our stay. We were helped by “the four Pedros,” Sergio, Maria-Joãn and others during our stay Pedro Mendez, in particular, has worked the reception desk for the past 16 years since the day the hotel opened and takes tremendous pride in delivering the best customer service imaginable! He personally made telephone calls for us to the tour company to make sure that we would be picked up in time for our day excursions that we had booked a few months prior. On our last day, he even went out of his way to suggest an independent walking tour for us that he insisted afforded the very best views of Porto that aren’t even mentioned in tour books. He showed us exactly how to get to each place on the map and even included a restaurant recommendation. We followed his itinerary to the letter and thought it was one of the best days we’d spent in Portugal in the past two weeks We are grateful to Pedro and the entire Mercure staff for making our stay in Porto one of our best and most memorable trips ever!
Located too far from the old town
We had booked a standard room but when we checked in the reception staff said we should pay 15 Euros a night extra for an upgraded room. Perplexing scenario. She wasn’t going to upgrade us for free even though the hotel was no where near capacity. So I checked out the standard room. It was so depressing – tired drab furnishings, faded carpet. We were there for four nights so we paid the extra for the higher standard room which was nice and had a small view to the sea. But the hotel is too far from the town of Porto and too far from the waterfront of Porto Gaia where there are lots of eateries and where all the port houses are located. Each time we wanted to go somewhere, it cost between 8-15 Euros in a taxi or Uber. If you don’t have a car to worry about, then choose a hotel in the middle of Porto where all the atmosphere is. The area around Pr de Liberdade and Av dos Aliados is particularly nice with amazing architecture. Porto is a lovely town.
