One star only because I have to
Old dirty room. Outdated furnishings. Terrible TV and remote. Malfunctioning plumbing. NO HOT WATER. They lock the only exit/entrance from 10pm-6am and you have to wait for the one employee to appear from the back so you can ask permission to be let out. No visible sanitation or disinfecting measures being taken and no coffee at breakfast. Only coffee available is the terrible little machine in the room. Hard grungy looking bed, broken mirror, and lackluster staff. Booked 2 nights, stayed only one. They made no effort to alert guests or tell us on check in there was NO HOT WATER.
What makes a really great hotel might be a touch of humanity
The thing you can't bring with you from home when you travel is human support when something goes wrong. Arriving from Australia, the Lyft driver drove off with my luggage and later denied I had any luggage. That's it, said Lyft, tough luck. No human support (or phone number to actually speak to anyone) there. Heavy business schedule, had to find clothes quickly in another country. The sense of injustice and inconvenience of being messed about, and $1200 worth of clothing, medicine etc gone. But the the staff here were so lovely and supportive - front desk, the bar (it was for a meal, not drowning sorrows!) And heading out shopping asking for directions, FJ at the front desk spontaneously gave me a $25 gift voucher for the store I was going to - from her own pocket. Seriously? What a beautiful thing to do? So which stood out to me? A crooked driver who probably dumped my luggage so he didn't have to return it? Or kindness and generosity like that? Hence the review. And yes, the hotel was comfortable, close to restaurants and shops. They don't hesitate to drop you somewhere, gratis, if you don't have a vehicle here, like me. Never felt like I was putting them out. Best Western, I hope you look after your staff, because, as a seriously frequent and global traveller, they're worth more than all the amenities.
Blake Shelton concert
The Best Western Plus at Seattle/Federal Way was an excellent choice for attending a concert at the Tacoma Dome. We were extremely pleased with the shuttle service that took us to their sister property located beside the Dome, it saved us the hassle of driving & parking and I will always stay at this property when attending concerts in the future.
A near ruined Anniversary getaway
A sad experience since I have been extremely satisfied at this hotel before. My wife and I checked in for a valentine's/anniversary weekend getaway. At fitrst things were nice, we were stisifed with the size of the room and the living room. While we were expecting a jacuzzi type tub, the regualr bathtub was still jetted. As I was parking the car and my wife was using the facilities in our room, one of the maids let herself in without knocking or announcing herself. My wife was only spared embarrassment by calling out, thinking I was in the room. After a half hour of getting settled, we attempted to log-in to the wifi. Several signals appeared but none for the hotel. Occassionally, it would appear, but any time we tried to log-in, we were told we couldn't join. When we informed the front desk on our way to dinner, she said she would have someone reset the router that was on EACH floor and it shuld be working by the time we came back. When we returned, the situation hadn't changed. My wife decided to soak in the tub. When she pressed the buttons for the jets, nothing happened. No matter how we adjusted the controls, there was no change. The only solution the front desk could offer was to change to a different room at 8 at night. It wouldn't solve the wifi problem, but they were "pretty sure" the jets worked in the tub. Since it was so late and we were unpacked, I declined as it would be too much trouble. I was told I could speak to management the next morning abput compensation. Breakfast looked promising with a variety of foods and an omelet bar. Since nobody was behind the omelet station, we started with other items. We soon found the food to be cool, nowhere near what should have been staying temperature. The eggs tasted off and the sausage was cold. We decided to wait for the omelet sation to be manned, but soon saw that it was being packed up. Apparently they had no staff to cook them. When we asked to speak to the manager at check-out, we were told that the shift manager had recently quit, and all they had were general manager that come in Monday-Friday (This was a Sunday). When I voiced my frustration at having been lied to the night before, the girl behind the desk told me like a child that "First of all, you need to lower your voice, ok?" She was even holding her finger up like she was some parental figure to me. As a 20 year service member, this was not the way I am used to being treated. I am an elite rewards member.
Underwhelming, cold bedroom
Little did I realize we stayed here before and were overcharged. But, here we are again and I will not forget to not stay here again! We picked this hotel because they had a two bedroom suite at a reasonable price. The size of the room and the privacy is great but the heater in my room made an awful sound. I told the front desk and they said they would have some check it out. When I came back to the room the heater didn't even turn on. So, on day three here and the temperature outside is cold and I am cold! Then there are the cracks on almost every window I look at; fixed with tape. Oh, then there is the inadequate supplies in the kitchen - I think there is one spoon and four knives; no dishwasher soap. And, when we returned to our room at 1pm our room was not cleaned. We will spend more on a suite somewhere else next year, for sure!
