Do not visit if you are mourning a loved one

Disgusting service. A group of us popped in for a drink after the internment of a relative. We hadn't booked but we were only looking for drinks to celebrate the life of our loved one. We were greeted at the door by a roped off entrance similar to that outside a nightclub. Worse was still to come. The 'lady' who 'greeted' (and I use this term in the lightest possible sense) us was on the defensive and rude from the offset. We were told there wasn't any where for us to go as they had lunch bookings. Again we only wanted drinks. We were piled into a corner which we were fine with. The flapping, fussing and rudeness continued. We could see there wouldn't be enough seating, so, sitting outside was suggested. Us youngsters got up to go outside to give the elders room to sit. We were then accosted by the door 'lady' who was trying to be polite in a very aggressive and accusatory way, who apologised for being unwelcoming. She then continued to hound and question us as to what she had done wrong and why we felt the way we did. After telling her the truth, we left and went to the Queen of Hearts in Lenwade, where we were warmly welcomed and had a drink for our relative, leaving our other, living relative's, in the ghastly Parson Woodforde. We shall never go back there
Would certainly recommend to friends

Really nice food in a stunning pub. Friendly staff who seem like they genuinely want to help, and were able to assist with everything we needed. Food was really good and well portioned. Service could have been slightly quicker towards the end, although this is being really picky. Looking a booking a Christmas meal here next. Really good overall!
Excellent Accommodation, food and staff

Just spent 3 nights there and would thoroughly recommend it. Accommodation clean and comfortable. Staff exceptional, as was the food in the restaurant in the evening. Breakfast also great and freshly cooked to order. The management have taken extraordinary measures to ensure customers and staff are protected from COVID. Would give it more than 5 stars if they were available.
Very good stay

Stayed overnight during a walk along the Marriots Way - not too far from the path but some of the roads were a little tricky to walk along as busy. Very nice pub and the rooms had been recently redecorated and were very pleasant - we had a couple of velux windows and so the room cooled down on a hot evening - it was a nice room but a shame there was no window to look out of. Room very clean, and comfy bed. We took breakfast outside which was nice. The breakfast was very good, well cooked and a good size. Nice sitting area downstairs in the bar with comfy sofas. Friendly staff.
Nice food but very creative when presenting the bill !

Booked a lunchtime table for my wife and I as it is my wife's birthday. Great table, extensive menu plus "specials" and an option of TWO or THREE course set menu. My wife ordered the Whitebait as a starter from the set menu which the staff member said was OK the ordered Scampi from the normal menu. I ordered the Croquet Chicken as my starter from the main menu and then the Macaroni Cheese from the set menu. The food was superb, beautiful presentation and service was prompt.......HOWEVER when I asked for the bill I was charged for each item at its full al a carte price......rather than ONE set meal cost and the other two items at the normal price. I questioned the waitress and she said that because we "mixed and matched" we had to pay the extra.....She seemed reluctant to do anything about it and a little embarrassed. The extra I paid was only about £7.00 but it was definitely a case of sharp practice selling the same items for different prices. How do they know that we didn't swap our plates..... I believe it is and was a ploy to get more money out of customers. It spoiled what was otherwise a great experience. Such a shame especially on my wife's special day. If you read some of the other reviews it appears that a certain aggressive stance is undertaken by senior management to scrape more money out of us all as customers. Perhaps Trading Standards would be interested in these facts. Nice Food but ensure they don't try to rip you off !!
