Worth the price
Great room with sea view, very friendly staff and hotel close to local amnesties. 2mins walk to the beach and 5mins walk to the pier. English breakfast just average, but this might be due to table service because of COVID-19.
Very enjoyable stay
I booked this as a surprise stay for hubby's birthday. We stayed in the Prince Edward room and was really lovely with fabulous seaviews.Had a really wonderful meal in the restaurant that evening and all home made and much credit to the chef. Waiting on staff were very friendly and helpful as were the bar staff and reception staff. Likewise breakfast was good next morning and all well worth the money for the bed and breakfast package. Would definitely stay again.
Very pleasant evening
Visited on Thursday 27 Feb from 5.30pm and stayed until just gone 10pm! Seeking refuge from the cold , wet and windy weather. My 3 adult daughters and I took sanctuary in the lounge area and had a tray of tea. The menu look interesting and reasonably priced so decided to stay there and have our evening meal in the restaurant. Good and varied selection. We had been placed by a table near the window but as it was so cold outside we asked if we could move to a table by the radiator. We were surprised by how few people there were eating in the dining room, it was just one other couple of ourselves. Everyone enjoyed their food. We retired to the lounge area again for further teas and coffee and made the most of their hospitality. A very pleasant evening with good food, good company and a welcoming establishment.
Lovely break in a lovely old hotel
We wanted a short 2 night break over half term to celebrate my mother's birthday, and chose the Royal because it had a family suite capable of accommodating two grandparents, myself and three grandchildren... Arriving by taxi, the hotel is a bit like much of Weston, shabby chic, but they made us very welcome, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the Royal to any of our friends... The suite wasn't grand--across a service courtyard and up the stairs, but had two rooms and an ensuite bathroom with a comfortable bed for everyone. We ate in their restaurant both nights and at breakfast both days, and loved their food. The vegetarians enjoyed interesting roulades, whilst the meaties were happy with ham hocks and Barnsley chops. The breakfast options were interesting and appetising, with kippers, smoked salmon as well as the usual 'full English'(all part of our b and b package) The restaurant staff were very pleasant too, and not at all phased by a boisterous 3 year old, who kept rushing off to see the three aquaria.... The Royal is very well placed in central Weston, handy for the pier and shops, and an easy stroll from the tidal pool at Knightstone, where there's always water to paddle in and sand for sandcastles. We travelled by train, but there appeared to be hotel parking in our courtyard, and parking next to the hotel on the seafront (this is pay and display, but free to hotel residents. I think you just have to register your reg plate with the hotel reception each day to avoid a fine) Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Weston, and at the Royal, and would have no hesitation in going back
Be aware of car park costs
Had a £60 fine for using the car park, be aware !!!!!! Being local and aiming to support local businesses in the winter season I decided to go to the hotel bar / restaurant a week back with a friend. Sadly at 7pm on arrival it was dark, very windy and lashing down with rain, during storm Caira. I parked the car close as possible and made a dash for indoors due to extreme weather outside. Never once noticing you have to pay to park. Week later I have a £60 fine, tried to speak with hotel, not really interested even though they own the car park. I Will not be visiting here again, locals and visitors be aware. Even some other reviews here have been fined even though they did have a ticket. Shame some cannot see the wood through the trees. Gold star for the Royal............
