Fantastic stay. Checked in and one of the keys for the room door wouldn’t work went to reception and they gave us another one, and someone then came back upstairs to the room to make sure it worked. The room was very spacious with all the extras. Bed very comfy, powerful shower, large bathroom. Tea coffee etc . Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend Swimming pool warm, with steam room and sauna which was really nice. Evening meal excellent. Only complaint No Baileys.

Overrated Hotel, better accommodation and restaurants in the area

Disappointing food, spoilt our stay. Some of the decor has seen better days. Bed incredibly uncomfortable had backache. Staff very friendly and helpful. A bit fur coat....please get your act together.

Nice hotel

Lovely clean hotel in a great location just a few minutes drive to Whitby centre. Breakfast was lovely we never had a evening meal we chose to go out every night. Plenty of car parking and the grounds are lovely to walk round.

Dog friendly visit

Reviewed 9 november, 2022

We booked one of the dog friendly rooms in the 'Hide' away from the main hotel. Lovely clean room with door opening directly out onto grass area overlooking the woods. A dog bed and bowls were left in the room for us. Dogs are welcomed in the bar and in a separate area at mealtimes. Sausages provided for little sausage dog at breakfast which he loved! I left it too late to book any spa treatments as it was fully booked, nice pool, sauna and steam room but no jacuzzi unfortunately. We spent time in the bar which was all tables and hard chairs..Nice view though. The hotel really lacks a cosy bar area with comfy seats. There is a very small area with a couple of sofas but away from the bar. I'm sure that more people would be inclined to spend money in the bar if it was cosy and inviting. That said, the bar staff were friendly and attentive. We ate in the restaurant both nights and found the food to be excellent. Again, the waiting staff were very attentive and professional. Excellent breakfast with lots of choice. The hotel stands in beautiful grounds and its in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes walk to the beautiful beach at Sandsend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we'll definitely be returning.

Great Experience

Reviewed 8 november, 2022

We booked one of the 5 dog friendly rooms situated away from the main hotel. Room was clean and opened onto the woods . Its only a short walk up to the hotel but there is a concierge service where they will golf-buggy you around the grounds at any time. Staff were really welcoming and very attentive. The Hotel is good, but really lacks a cosy bar. I understand there used to be one which has been taken away, bit of a shame because the remaining bar feels a bit like a canteen. Any party larger than 6 people would have no chance of settling in for a night as its all quite upright tables and chairs and not relaxing at all. On that subject, there is no real lounge either. The spa was booked out all the time we were there (not that it seemed particularly busy) but we did use the pool which was ok. I'm told there used to be a jacuzzi which is now gone which is a shame considering the hotel prides itself on spa facilities. The food was excellent and the drinks are pricey, just like most hotels. Would definitely go again, despite some of the things I've said because the location is simply incredible. I think that sums it up, a great base, at a price obviously but unlike other spa hotels, theres not much to keep you there all day.
