Beautiful place to stay in the country

Reviewed 4 december, 2022

Stayed in a large warm room. Microwave, kettle, fridge, modern TV and every comfortable. Right next to to the road but no noise inside. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was lovely and the food was of high quality and very reasonably priced. Thoroughly recommend staying at the Crown

A 7 night stay

Good points; Room was very clean, bath was big and hot water plentiful; towels and coffee tray replenished most days; staff in restaurant were friendly and efficient; the two vegetarian meals on the menu were tasty Not so good points: Decor was tired; matress was uncomfortable as you could feel the springs; parking was difficult after 6pm; WiFi didn't work in my room in The Coach House; breakfast was limited for anyone who doesn't like a cooked breakfast; on one night a group of young people were out the front of the pub till 1am making sleep impossible.

Weekend away with family

Reviewed 26 october, 2022

Weekend away with family - not teens but doesn't allow that option. Good sizes rooms, very clean, great staff, good facilities (tea & Coffee), really quiet, and reasonable prices. Enjoyed my weekend. Would definitely stay here again, We ate here the first evening. The food was lovely and plentiful Only one complaint - no apple pie left! :-)

Thetford Visit

Reviewed 29 september, 2022

Stayed at the Crown Hotel for 3 night as it's a great place for visiting the whole of the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Room very nice and clean with very comfortable bed. Used the restaurant for 3 nights food good quality and reasonable price. If I had a comment the meal size was too big, but this might suit some people. All in all would thoroughly recommend for a wonderful stay.

Could do better!

Reviewed 17 september, 2022

It started out good. The first nights sleep was awful so I asked if they had a mattress topper. They very kindly provided one, however the mattresses were cheap and nasty and even with the mattress topper the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The place seemed to have a few maintenance issues and we had to ask for more toilet paper twice during our stay. The shower kept blocking and we had to report this twice, but it continued to be blocked. We in a family room with two double beds and a single. There are four steps up to the bathroom but no handrail. For safety’s sake I think a handrail is needed. Breakfast on the first couple of days was very good. Hot food, properly cooked and the waitress who was an older lady was very welcoming, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Don’t know if the chef was the same or not but the lady was not there and there were two very young girls waiting on us. They were more interested in chatting to each other out in the kitchen than checking if we had what we wanted or clearing the tables. They were sullen, forgetful and our breakfast came out with cold mushrooms. A man at another table said his beans were cold. Our waitress could not remember what we’d asked for and my partner was given tomato that he’d didn’t want. We had to keep asking for coffee. At one point the waitress threw away the coffee on the hot plate and we had to wait while another one filtered through. Neither of them looked around to clear tables or to check if anyone needed anything. On Wed my partners egg was not properly cooked so today we asked them to make sure it was cooked and not raw. It came out totally over cooked, like rubber! It felt like the chef was taking the P! Dinner was ok but the portions were so large the chips and salad were falling off the plates. It was a bit off putting and we saw so much waste. We started ordering just starters because the mains were just too much. Some locals using the bar were very foul mouthed and loud, and on occasions there were families eating in the bar. This is unacceptable. A lot of the staff are very young. Untrained and unmanaged. Lacking customer service skills. It’s a shame because the older staff members work so hard. The youngsters let them down. We checked out a day early because we couldn’t face another bad night sleep or a badly cooked breakfast. This morning I just had toast and cereal because I couldn’t face it.
