Just had a night away with my mum at this hotel booked through Secret Escapes and we really enjoyed it. Parking is so convenient and good value for a city centre hotel 10 pounds overnight (and they don’t rush you away the following day) is brilliant. The room was a cosy double that was made into a twin for us, not massive but adequate with a nice sofa, air conditioning (which was essential due to us staying on the hottest day in September!) a well appointed bathroom with nice toiletries and plenty of towels and a generous tea tray with a coffee machine, and a large flat screen TV (we’ll come to that later). We even had quite a nice view which once again can be tricky in the middle of a large city. The room was spotless as was the rest of the public areas. A 5 minute walk takes to to the side of the river and 10 minutes into the city centre with all its attractions so perfectly situated but in a very quiet area which gave us a good nights sleep. The food was nice although a little over seasoned for me and a good choice at breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, very patient with my elderly mum. My only bugbear and the reason I only give 4 stars and not 5 was the fact that the TV didn’t work due to a fire (ages ago) at a mast in North Yorkshire, this wasn’t communicated to us during our stay, we go to the room pretty early after a day sightseeing and looked forward to laying in bed watching some T.V, unfortunately not to be, they could have provided some magazines or books in reception as an alternative. However, I would definitely stay there again, its a really nice place to stay.
Good location but service poor for this quality of hotel

The location if hotel excellent it also has some great outside eating, drinking and social areas . However I have just stayed there and there was a problem with a TV transmitter so we were unable to et TV or radio in our rooms and we were not informed of this at check in. The service in bar and restaurant was poor . We had to cancel a dink’s order having waited 30 minutes after having ordered fairly simple drinks also the breakfast was excellent but service not good and my friend was served a vegetarian breakfast when she had specifically requested not vegetarian . It is a pity because it has the makings of a good hotel but management and service beeding
Gorgeous little hidden gem

Stayed for 2 nights on the short break deal which was amazing value given that it included dinner, breakfast and a bottle of champagne. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Location is ideal, in a quieter residential area but still only 10 minutes walk from centre. Room was immaculate and well presented. Lovely big shower. Comfortable bed. Food was really good, lots of choice at both breakfast and dinner and very good quality. The only thing that could have made our stay better was unfortunately out of the hotel's control - the weather. It was an unusually cold and miserable August so although the outdoor areas were done beautifully, we couldn't take advantage of them and sit out. We will definitely return though so fingers crossed for warmer weather next time!
Lovely Afternoon Tea

Visited York for a couple of days & fortunately managed to book an afternoon tea, courtesy of Travelzoo ... from entering the beautiful hotel to leaving, we cannot fault anything. Afternoon tea very fresh & plentiful, in fact we had to request a box to take home what we couldn't eat but refused to leave without ...it was so lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough, considering returning for a stay at the hotel in Winter. All the staff were extremely courteous & informative. Thanks to all
Fabulous Staff in a Lovely Hotel

The staff were absolutely fantastic - helpful, friendly, welcoming, a very well run happy crew, I believe family run, certainly felt that way . Great location in the centre of York, with car parking, and reception staff found me a way to charge the EV for which I was very grateful. Also liked the way I was phoned a few days before to book a breakfast time, and allowed me to ask about the EV charging. The hotel was clean and well maintained and in a lovely building. Overall great value, great experience.
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed (COVID pings), breakfast was good and bad, excellent eggs benedict, cold porridge (which was fixed). The room we had only had a very small window but that probably reflects the price paid so whist a surprise it wasn't a problem. Bed was wonderfully comfortable and bathroom was great.
