Excellent Stay at a Clean, Convenient Hotel with the Nicest Staff Around!
We decided to head out on an antiquing adventure and chose this hotel to stay at as it was close to numerous antique stores and flea markets that we wanted to visit. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly beyond anything we have experienced in a hotel in the past year, the restaurant and bar were beyond expectation...but more than anything, the staff were the stars of our stay! They were friendly and helpful at all times. It was refreshing to deal with staff who went beyond the bare minimum. We even met the chef in the elevator and he was very friendly and spoke with us, asking where we were visiting from. I would go back to Youngstown and stay at this hotel again solely for the experience of the friendly staff. As for the room - it was clean and perfect for what we needed that night. The restaurant had fabulous food offerings and the bartender made an amazing Sazerac! Honestly, I cannot recommend this hotel enough!
Poor cleaning of basics, not confidence inspiring or comfortable, would not go back.
In spite of a Hilton cleaning sticker across the door, the room was poorly cleaned. Food residue on the desk, water glass marks on the night stand, toothpaste or makeup on the bathroom sink, hairs in the shower. It was almost as if they forgot to clean it. Bed pillow cases were inside out and tags outside. When I checked out I politely gave my feedback, and the asst. mgr reply was, well sorry about that. Would not stay here again.
An older hotel but VERY nice! Great location downtown.
I was at the beginning of a multi-day solo road trip from my home in Michigan to Upstate New York and back on a Wednesday in July 2020. I had chosen Youngstown as the destination for my first overnight because I had never been to Youngstown before and wanted to explore it. I'm a Hilton Honors member so I decided to book a room at this DoubleTree. I was not disappointed! I arrived at about 2:00 in the afternoon on this particular Wednesday. My check-in experience went smoothly, and my room (#1112) had a nice view of the city. The room was clean and comfortable... no concerns whatsoever. Like all Hilton properties, this one has a business center that I was able to use for surfing the web and catching up on social media, which I appreciated. I loved the location of this hotel within easy walking distance of some good establishments downtown... including an excellent restaurant where I had dinner and a pour-your-own-beer bar. I can't speak to the breakfast situation at this hotel, and I was traveling during the COVID pandemic so things with breakfast were handled differently than normal. This is definitely an older property but is in great condition overall. The only thing that could make this hotel better would be something like an indoor pool/hot tub, but that's not really possible given the way the building is laid out. Overall I very much enjoyed my stay here and would love to stay here again if I have a reason to visit Youngstown again.
Friendly staff, good safety protocols
In a state where very few people are wearing masks, it was nice to find a hotel which had good safety protocols in place. Room was very clean and had a beautiful arched window. Only complaint is that e shower was hard to turn on - you had to be in the shower to turn it on.
Wonderful Find - a Real Gem
I've never been to Youngstown, Ohio before, but went to help a friend that lives in the area. I stayed overnight at the DoubleTree and was really impressed by this hotel. The DoubleTree is a classic hotel in an old-world style, but not dated or staid. Between the staff, the room, and the hotel amenities, I have to give the DoubleTree top marks. The room was immaculate. The bed extremely comfortable, and I even received a follow-up email from the manager the day after my stay. Youngstown was another city that was beset by downturns in the steel industry, but this hotel is proof that the city is attempting to redefine itself. It is conveniently located in the middle of the business district and not far from most other city scenes. Youngstown may not be a household name or a target destination, but if you are there, the DoubleTree is the place to stay.
