Unlimited Member: Not up to par
I travel frequently and stay at AMResorts as I am an Unlimited member. This resort was completely subpar and not in line with what I am used to with other resorts in this line. The alcohol was watered down, the food was bland, the service was okay. The resort is situated on a very busy street and loud music was blaring ALL NIGHT EVERY NIGHT (from dusk till dawn). I have kids and it was rough for anyone to sleep. The beach was crowded and there were vendors constantly hovering over you. Even if the drinks were good, you could not take them on the beach. Would not return!
Back to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo #5
Back to Ixtapa Sunscape Excellent service Giovanni in the pool service was awesome Victor in the launch was excellent Juanita in the Buffet what’s a lifesaver Felipe the bellboy excellent Coco cafe was amazing Jonathan at the lunch truck took care of us
Not the best facilities
The facilities look old with many details, incredible that only 2 of 4 elevators are working, imagine the amount of people trying to go up and down on a 20 floor building. the beach is ugly, at the beach you cannot order drinks or food from the hotel cause the pandemic but they allow local vendors to sell their products not in the best hygienic way all day. So where is the restriction? The drinks are very limited in brands compared to other Dreams. Options of food at restaurants are limited, dont know if its for the pandemic. Service if fine, same as other Dreams.
Acapulco
I can’t say enough good things about Dream’s in Acapulco but I’ll give a few reason why you should visit this beautiful place of Paradise! 1) The resort is smaller but it’s more personal. 2) the staff is amazing. 3) The View is Beautiful. 4)The city is Beautiful. 4) Some much History.
Unlimited Luxury.... Limited.
The pandemic has severely crippled the experience at this resort. While some of the cutbacks were understandable in light of the pandemic and lowered hotel occupancy some were just outright failures. The first failure is when you check into the hotel. They have antiseptic gel at the door and make you fill out a health declaration online but do not do temperature checks. Most restaurants and stores in Mexico do a temperature check on entry but not the Dreams. Once you get into the hotel we found that the air conditioning for the common areas was not working. OK, I get it, the hotel is trying to cut costs in the face of reduced occupancy but it made for a sweaty check in and a sweaty walk to your room. We were upgraded to a nice family suite which was two rooms connected together and the main room had a wonderful view of the ocean with lovely floor to ceiling glass walls, wrap around balcony and a nice king bed. However we found that the air conditioning in the room was not very cold. We contacted the front desk and they sent a maintenance person but all he was able to do was to direct the air more towards the bed. Also the mini-bar was not stocked. Later on we found that there was no hot water but since the air conditioning wasn't working very well we didn't bother to chase it. Towards the end of our stay we found water dripping from the bathroom ceiling. We arrived on a Tuesday and only two of the five restaurants was open for lunch or dinner and the ice cream shop was closed. Worse yet the kids club was closed and would not reopen until Thursday. We were told the other two restaurants would open for the weekend. Annoying but understandable due to low occupancy. We ate mostly at the beachside seafood restaurant El Piscador which was in a beautiful palapa right next to the beach with a lovely breeze that kept things cool. It had been converted from a buffet to sit down service but the staff were not up to the change. It took us up to an hour to get our food some days and the limited menu never changed. I get the restaurant closures but having the same menu every day with limited dining options was just a failure. There wasn't even a dish of the day. After a couple of meals we had tried everything. It was a good thing we were only staying for a few days instead of a full week. The staff stood around, moved slowly and were just not very attentive even though there were rarely more than four or five tables filled. When the food did come it looked good and was well plated but the portions were tiny. We quickly learned to order several appetizers and entrees per person so we didn't have to wait again. That all said, I would recommend the Tuna Taki appetizer which was superb. The buffet restaurant and Italian restaurant opened on Thursday. The buffet had limited options and the servers would spoon food from the hot plates for you. The Italian restaurant, La Trattoria had a pasta bar and a salad bar which were OK, other reviewers have said good things about the service at La Trattoria but as the food was self service I can't really comment. One bright spot was the room service which was prompt and had tasty food. On Thursday we went to the kids club which was one well appointed room but there were no other kids there and our kid did not want to stay by herself. It was also open for limited hours of 10-2pm then 2:30pm to 7:00pm and they did not provide food for the kids so there was limited opportunity for parents to enjoy a quiet meal. Also for family brand we were disappointed that there was not a kids play area. The only options for kids were the pool or the beach. They closed the beach at 6pm and the pools at 7 pm and since there was no night time entertainment everyone just went back to their rooms at night. The bar and room service closed at 11 so basically the resort shut down then except for the small café which was open 24 hours. As for the beach there were plastic loungers and umbrellas but the surf was quite rough, the sand was hot, there were no lifeguards, they refused to sit more than three seats together and the hotel had suspended drink and food service to the beach. However there were plenty of vendors selling souvenirs, food and drink on the beach. Not sure why the venders can sell food and drink but the hotel cannot provide it. There was drink service at the pool but it was slow and sometimes you would simply not get the drink you ordered. Speaking of drinks they were weak. The wine tasted like water and there was barely any alcohol in the rest of the drinks. A simple gin and tonic and I had to ask them to top off the gin twice to get a decent drink. They could not make a Michelada which along with tequila is practically the national drink of Mexico. We met another guest that had stayed at the Dreams before and he said the food and service were better in the past and I can excuse some of the shortcomings due to the pandemic but I would say that this resort is currently no more than a two star resort at a four star price.
