We are gold members and they didn't have the king bed we reserved but they did put us in a double queen suite. We didn't resreve a suite so it was sort of an upgrade but queen beds are so small. Then the pool was out of order. The corner store next to the check in desk had bsically nothing, just a couple of sodas. The coffee in the lobby was stone cold, one of TV remotes didn't work and it was stuck in HDMI mode. We couldn't even use the TV manually. In the tub the body wash and hair conditioner was embty. At breakfast, there was no meat by the time we got there.Like I said we are gold members and this is not what we expect in a Fiarfield Inn was the first night of a 30 day vacation, so not a good start. The room was comfortable but just not what we expect from Marriott.
Dirty and disappointing hotel stay

If I could give this hotel zero stars I would. When I checked in, the room I was given was dirty (hair in the tub, someone's shirt hanging in the closet). I asked for another room, which unfortunately was even worse (hair in the tub, stains in the toilet and a non-operational phone). The third room wasn't great but I was tired, so I took it. When I mentioned the state of the rooms, I was told that the housekeeping staff is new, which honestly is no excuse. During my stay, I was looking forward to working out in the gym and relaxing in the hot tub. The gym was small but serviceable. Unfortunately, the pool and hot tub were out of service. The hotel lobby had an unpleasant smell and there were coffee stains on the floor in the lobby and on the floor where I was staying that housekeeping didn't bother to clean up. When I checked out, I realized I was charged twice for my room. When I asked the clerk to reverse one of the charges, he said only the manager could do that and she wouldn't be in until Monday. He also blamed the person who checked me in for the mistake. A completely unacceptable situation and explanation. I visit family in Alamogordo frequently and will never stay here again. I suggest others steer clear too and stay at the Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn, which are cleaner and better run than this property.
Professional, friendly, and kind staff

I have to take a couple stars off because the pool was closed but they are trying to get it reopened soon. However I added a star for a total of 4 stars because of the professionalism, kindness, and friendliness of Andrew after we had a terrible experience at the Holiday Inn. He’s going places in life and Fairfield Inn is lucky to have him working for them. We wish him well.
Stole $320 from us

This is for the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Alamogordo New Mexico. TLDR: Got the big suite for $239 military rate, it didn’t have the couch sofa in the photo and the AC was broken so we asked to be switched to the 2 queen room for $99 military and they said yes. They still charged us the $239 rate. They promised to fix it when I called 4 times, and then refused. Big Marriott said nothing they could do. We were charged $540.74 for a $220 room. Here’s the full rant that my wife says no one will read: Had a tire blowout on our RV so we could not go camping. Fortunately, we were able to park the RV and continue to Alamogordo. The website showed military rates of $99 or $96 (my wife and I remember differently) for a 2 bedroom and $239 for a full kitchen, 1 bedroom residential suite, 1 king. We thought, the nice fellow that pulled over had reception (we did not) and helped us change the tire since the tools we had were no good, saved us some decent money on a tow – let’s splurge and get the suite – the kids will love it, OK. We booked the suite. Everyone is excited. The photos showed a king bed and pull out couch, great. We got to the hotel and no one at the front desk… Ok. I called the front desk while there. Finally, 20 minutes later, someone came out. We got into the room, its HOT, AC does not appear to be working. I turn everything on, close the open window. Oh no, there’s no pull out bed. We can’t fit. And, its been long enough that the AC in the main bedroom kind of works but the main room, no AC. We go to the lobby and ask about switching rooms for the $99 per night. The front clerk is super nice, I show my ID card again. No problem. We switched from the suite in 601 to a standard two bedroom in 216. Lost the full kitchen, separate bedroom, huge shower, and more, but whatever, we have enough beds. AC barely works. I was hot the two nights. When I was unpacking, we got a call from the front desk asking us if we had checked out of our room yet. I’m like, we just checked in…? He apologized. Weird. We had a good two days seeing white sands, the area. Great. They let us check out an hour late which was nice. Driving out of town I check the email receipt and it shows the $239 per night rate. WHAT? So I call the hotel, they apologize and say they’ll fix it. I get the same receipt again. That’s weird. So I call again and they apologize again and say they’ll fix it. I called May 30 at 12:37pm, May 31 at 5:26pm, and all times they apologize, some story about forgetting to talk to the manager, they’ll fix it. I call again June 3 at 5:26pm and someone who was really nice took all my info and promised that I’d get called back. I get a call 6:13pm from someone representing the general manager who said that the person who authorized the lower rate (for the much smaller room mind you) was fired because he was not authorized to do that. They said they would not honor the rate. I said that was shocking to me and unacceptable and asked to talk to the general manager. I was told they would call me back. NOTHING. I submitted a complaint online (I didn’t get the date, I think May 31). I called Marriott proper 6 June at 8:17pm and the person was very helpful, took the whole story. She said they rate difference was too great for her to be able to fix it. (The total should be around $220 for the two nights, not the $540.74 we were charged). I said, this is theft, you charged me for a room I was not in. I also said I would put in a credit card dispute because this is crazy. We would have left rather than pay so much. (I guess I will never do a virtual checkout again.) The Marriott person said the rate difference was too great for her to be able to fix it. She also told me that the hotel had closed out my complaint as resolved which was a lie as they had not called me. I had to wait 5 business days, call back 13 June. Now it’s 13 June and they said there’s nothing they could do. I said this in crazy and that I was writing this review while on hold for 1 hour. So now, I’m posting this for me. The second tier person said, post the bad review, hopefully Alamogordo Fairfield is the one bad apple. I’m also submitting a credit card dispute.
Extremely disappointed for a Marriott

Do not recommend staying! The facility is truly the worst Marriott I have ever stayed in. I frequently stay at Marriott hotels for business and pleasure, this was awful. Common areas and elevator was filthy with dirt and was not cleaned once during our 3 day stay. Room carpet was so dirty the bottom of feet turn black and left foot prints on tile floor in bathroom. Room keys did not work. Pool area closed. Marriott corporate pay attention, this hotel management needs to be held responsible for giving you a poor name and damaging the Marriott reputation. Hotel management, time to step it up and get your facility up to standard! There is no excuse for paying customers to stand for this.
