comfortable bed/room - get rid of the resort fee!
The bed and room were comfortable. The kitchenette was well-stocked. The room is a little dated, but that is okay with me. My view was of rooftops, but that is okay as i didn't pay for a room with a view - it was still pleasant enough, and I wasn't here long. The balcony was too small to use, though - a little triangle. My main issue is that they charge an additional resort fee. I asked them what it is for and they said "for wifi and to clean the pool." Well, every hotel I've ever stayed in has wifi as part of the fee, or for a small daily fee (not $20!), and every place I've been with a pool cleans it as part of the regular room rates. I think this resort fee is just a way to gouge customers for nothing. And, they charge tax on the resort fee! So, I pay for nothing, and then pay tax on the nothing I paid for. There are no other resort things here. And, I never found the restaurant on-site. The consierge seems to be there mainly to sell you a timeshare visit in another city. It is too bad that Avila Beach lets this place dominate the lodging options. I'd love to come back to Avila Beach, but won't come back here. I also agree with the other reviews about noise - walls are paper thin so you can hear people 1-2 rooms away. Although they seem to be doing a good job with COVID-19 cleaning, they wasted water running an empty dishwasher in my room before I checked in. In this region, water conservation is critical; what an irresponsible waste!
Over rated
When you pay the money we paid......400.00 plus for two nights, you should see for your view more than a parking lot. The Villa is antiquated, the bath tub shower combo had very slippery, the extra toilet is old and very close to the floor., the exhaust vent for the microwave recirculates, we will not waist our hard earned monies here again. Go up to SLO or down to Pismo., or Morro Bay.
San Luis Bay Resort, Avila :))
Shout out to Maddie working at the Front desk, extremely helpful and does her job very well. Thank you for helping me find a room that fits my needs. Absolutely love San Luis Bay inn, favorite spot to stay in the 5 cities area.
Roof view
I’m really upset. I paid well for a 2 bedroom unit. I only needed a one bedroom, but hoped the two bedroom would assure better view. Wrong. Called three times to make sure I did not get a room where the view was a red roof with a peak that blocks everything. Because the room was prepaid, I couldn’t leave. The front desk claimed they couldn’t do anything for me. I’m really frustrated because this happens 9/10 times I’ve been here.
Lovely: Best to Go Off Season
I just returned after a five night stay; The accommodations were lovely the staff was really nice, the location & view wonderful.... The room (a studio) was spacious, the bed was firm & comfortable, the bathtub was large, the grounds & room were clean. I brought my own food & drinks as there was a nicely appointed kitchen and the wifi worked perfectly. Free parking was definitely a plus, as were the grills & small seating area w/ the fire-pit. The resort lacked a few amenities that most hotels I stay in have: bottled water, breakfast, cookies/fruit, newspapers, & change for $10 after 7:00 pm; but there was a 10% discount for local restaurants and they did give me 2 free masks after I left mine in my room. I didn't leave my room much because majority of the people staying there & in town refused to wear masks.... They didn't even have their children wearing masks. The NOISE: SCREAMING Children in the pool until 10:00 pm when the pool closed. Certainly if other hotels can have a curfew for children in a pool at night, this place can too! Also there was a small child with screaming tantrums at all hours. I guess some parents are ignorant of the fact that not everyone wants to hear their children SCREAMING at all hours and good parenting means taking control of the situation & shutting the child up.
