Lovely small family owned hotel

I spent a weekend alone here to get away from the day-to-day and rest. Lovely place with a really nice spa area. The Saunas were lovely and overall the place was orderly and neat. The friendliest people work here and anytime I needed anything or assistance with anything, they went above and beyond. The restaurant was absolutely delightful and the food was very good. The employees seem to really enjoy working here as one could feel a warm and welcoming atmosphere among them. I had a lovely time and it’s definitely on my list of places to go again should I have a chance.

The worst hotel experience I had in my life

I have traveled in 50 countries on 5 continents, but the experience in Ritter Hotel was the worst in my life. I have booked a double bed and the hotel had just twin beds. Because I asked for a double bed, they started to become extremely aggressive. The asked me "Have you ever been in a hotel before?" Finally, because I didn't wanted to totally destroy the Valentine's weekend I accepted to take the room that they have. The manager told me "If you don't like the room that we have you should go". So I had to beg for half an hour the manager, Mrs. Ganter to they give me a room, while the room was already paid.

For this hotel to find your room and from there the dining room you really need a good navigation system or els you get lost in time and space. Lovely view from the terrace specially the sunset over valley, the WiFi needs improvement so are some of the furniture

Old fashioned hotel, promising more than it offers

Badenweiler is a pleasant if rather sleepy place to stay, and the Ritter Hotel fits right in with this faded-resort-for-pensioners groove. It could be so much better. The facade is rather tacky, but the garden and grounds behind are beautiful. I loved the double recliners. The decor in the rooms is very dated (but the beds were quite comfy). There is no air conditioning. We were promised a bath/shower but the shower was simply a spray thing that you point at yourself while sitting in the bath. Water goes everywhere. And this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel! Really? There was some kind of archaic radio in the room that could not be disconnected, which sprang to life in the middle of the night, picking up frequencies from unknown sources. The people in the neighboring room experienced the same thing. The WiFi signal was so weak that we could not watch Netflix. One English language TV Channel - CNN - was on the room menu but not on TV. TV seemed to be analogue, not cable. The quality of service in the restaurant was erratic, but some of the meals - when they finally arrived - were of high quality. The reception staff were friendly but it is a mistake to squeeze them into tight, traditional outfits that make them look most uncomfortable and of another era. What’s that all about? On the plus side, we greatly enjoyed the modern spa facilities and a lovely pool. A real saving grace for this otherwise rather average hotel.

Nice hotel but needs updating, beautiful views from the restaurant terrace, excellent location.

I stayed just one night and was upgraded to a superior double room with a balcony. The room itself was spacious and nicely furnished. It was very warm though- no A/C or fan so the blinds were left up and balcony doors and windows kept open at night. The bed was very soft and uncomfortable. My feet kept touching the wooden part at the end. Not suitable for tall people! The old-fashioned , big bathroom had a deep bath with just a hand shower. An elderly person/unfit person would find it quite hard getting out of the bath. The garden was lovely with sun loungers and the wellness area was fine. Bring your own spa slippers and take some shower gel if you want a shower in the swimming area.. The spa towels that were provided were tiny... not like the ones shown on the official website :-)) Dinner was excellent but breakfast was a bit of a disaster. There should be more staff on duty. We could not find a spare table that was set up at 9.30am (breakfast is served until 10am). I had to ask for hot water for tea, bread, ham, boiled eggs etc as so much was not replenished. When the items of food arrived the boiled eggs were hard and one of the loaves of bread that I cut into was still frozen...
