Owner is kind, trustworthy and a genuinely good human being

While we did not stay over night at the Andruss Motel, I felt compelled to write a review as we were treated so well by the owner. Our RV had mechanical issues just outside of Walker. I stopped at the Andruss to see if I could get some local information on a nearby garage/towing company. The owner, Steve, was so helpful and seemed to genuinely care about providing us with whatever we needed to make our day go as smooth as possible given our circumstances. He not only helped me find what info I needed to get our camper back on the road, but offered up many of the hotel amenities to make my two young children more comfortable while I worked on the RV. I would highly recommend staying here if you like to support the type of people who make the world a better a place.

Comfortable room, nice looking and quaint place. Steve the owner is a good guy and welcoming. It’s quiet good mattress nice quality in room coffee and toiletry supplies. I was recommended this place at my first stop looking for accommodations at a KOA lodge a bit north. It was a good recommendation and the small town has everything you need for a stop whilst on the road.

Steve gave us a port in a storm!

When the Caldor Fire blew up on August 17th, and burned down Grizzly Flats, we knew we would need a place to go that would accept pets, in case of the evacuation of South Lake Tahoe. (Since my husband is a retired USFS firefighter, we both knew the odds were very good that the Caldor would reach Tahoe). We didn’t want to be put in the position of having to evacuate and to separately put our pets in a shelter, since they are all rescues. I called Steve at the Andruss Motel where I have stayed many times in the past with various family members. He graciously assured me that when the time came, he would have a room for us. Each day, as the fire got closer, I would call and give updates, always worrying that we were causing him to lose business, since he was holding a room for us and our menagerie. Finally, at 6 p.m. on August 29th, the mandatory evacuation order came for Christmas Valley where we live. I called Steve and told him we were on our way. For the two weeks of our evacuation from South Lake Tahoe, we have stayed mostly at the Andruss, where we have been treated like honored guests or family members. I have always loved the Andruss Motel because of the wonderful shady maples, the knotty pine interiors (where, in the morning, the sunlight is honey streaming in), the lovely pool, the simple and comfortable rooms and the old Timey feeling of being here. It reminds me of the motels in Wyoming that my family used to stay in when I was a child. Now, my husband and I have even more reason to treasure this quiet motel, which became our refuge for such a long while. What a wonderful place to be, when you’re in danger of losing your home. The peace and quiet helped us weather the storm of our evacuation; the camaraderie with other evacuees and Steve and his guests/friends sustained us. We hope to consider Steve a dear friend from here on, and to return soon (and often) to the The Andruss Motel.

We (my husband and myself) visited in September 2020 and fell in love with it. The owner/host, Steve is friendly and is knowledgeable about the area. The room was very clean and comfortable, it had everything we needed for our stay. (Microwave, coffee maker and small fridge). Loved the personal touches, special Costa Rican coffee, and extra blankets. We just returned from a family vacation (9 of us) here and everyone loved it! We booked a room with kitchenette and used the BBQ’s and picnic tables for family meals. Gathered around the fire pit in the evenings and enjoyed time with Steve. We are planning on making this an annual event and can’t wait till next year! STAY HERE…you won’t be disappointed.
