Good location for a weekend in Divonne
About 20 minutes drive from Geneva airport (80 euros taxi fare one way, which is properly expensive for such a short journey!) the accommodation was easy to find and well located in the village, quiet despite being just a very short walk to the centre with shops, banks, bars, restaurants etc. and an excellent Sunday market. Have read the previous reviews, which are quite old now, but there aren't that many hotels in Divonne itself and what's on offer does seem to separate the market, by style and financially - so take your choice. The room we were allocated was well furnished and reasonably clean. We got a bedroom with a decent bed, separate seating area with sofa, coffee table & TV (no English channel), air conditioning and hanging/storage space. Small functional kitchen so you could self-cater if you had to, but is limited. Toilet separate to bathroom. Shower flow was poor but apart from that the room in general was ok. There is no housekeeping provided for short stays, but it did state this on the website so we were aware before we booked, and our stay was only 2 nights so we weren't concerned that this was lacking. We had breakfast (included) each day in the hotel, which turned out to be a (very) small choice of hot & cold foods, pastries and a coffee machine. All self service. We found most of the staff we encountered to be friendly and multilingual, although one receptionist did manage to book our taxi back to the airport at 4am rather than 4pm! resulting in a rather unwelcome phone call waking us in the early hours, so clearly something lost in the translation there. All in all, the hotel was well located for our requirements and we would stay again if we were revisiting the area.
Did I Stay at the Same Hotel as Those Who Rated This One at Four Stars?
Let me do the positive things first. It's in a charming bedroom community in a bucolic setting with farmland and range land surrounding it. It's close to the mountains with some great mountain views. It's quiet. There are some decent restaurants in the area, but careful, many are closed on Mondays. Now for the things that will guarantee that I'll never stay here again. First of all if you are looking to stay here as an inexpensive alternative to staying in the pricey hotels in Geneva city, think twice. There is an 80 Euro ($100) cab fee from Geneva to the hotel. I booked the hotel for about 80 Euro per night, so my taxi fee was about the same as the hotel room rate. So, you can afford a hotel room in Geneva for about 160 Euro and have a break even experience. To be fair, there is a bus and train connection to and from Geneva that is much cheaper, but it's not easy to figure out if you are new to the area and haven't done your research. Secondly, the place is nothing to write home about. the hallway carpets are filthy, the room was grim and drafty, the shower drain was plugged up and almost flooded the bathroom floor when I tried to use it, the wallpaper on the room is covered with splotches and is peeling away from the wall at the seams, and they didn't service my room after the first night. Same dirty towels and unmade bed from the night before! I stayed two nights, but would have left after the first night if I hadn't already pre-paid for 2 nights...lesson learned! When I complained a the front desk that I couldn't get the heat in the room to work, they advised me that it wouldn't work because it was still summer (it was mid September) and that the heat couldn't be turned on until the hotel did it later in the year. She didn't seem to know when this would happen exactly. Fortunately I travel with PJ's, since there was not additional blanket to be found. Several members of the staff appear un-knowledgeable about the area stating that they are now. Suggests very high employee turnover here, not a good sign for the management. So there you have it. I'm not sure what other housing options are available in the area, but hopefully some of them will be better....
Very Excited Until Big Disappointment
Where should we start.... This apartment hotel was highly recommended by friends who had family and friends stay there over the years when it used to cater to business guests....however...it appears service level or management or something has changed...........selected because it was only 15-20mins from friends in Givrins Negatives::Check-in was OK - however no electronic key - still OK.We got to the room - a bit of a musky smell - so opened the windows for fresh air. Next morning, noticed weird smell in toilet (separate area from bathroom) - had to leave some citrus soap in a cup daily to counter this. It gets better - my husband had to take out the trash (no cleaning - we were traveling with a baby - so imagine diapers, food). We were informed if you stay 4-7 days they clean once- we stayed 6 days - no one came until the day before we left when i called the front desk to complain again - since no response from other days - it was pointless at this time - just asked for new towels. Our apartment had an outer door which used an electronic key - we were not given this key - we returned late one night to find the door locked - my husband went downstairs to the front desk, he was provided the key and asked to return - gasp...because they did not have enough keys for the people checking in that weekend - i guess current guests did not matter. We ran out of bathroom tissue - informed the front desk - we were informed it would be brought to the room, 2 hours later, called the front desk, it finally surfaced. A/C - first night it was cool - remaining 5 nights - opened the windows for fresh air because it was hot, didn't bother calling the front desk because they didn't seem to care or respond to other needs. Positives:great views, central location, parks and restaurants within walking distance, fantastic sunday market. Great vacation to Switzerland and France, however, would not recommend this apartment hotel.... very, very, disappointed.
Best location in Divonne-les-Bains
We came for 5 days of nostalgia, the the ApartCity turned out to be a great choice. The staff were very pleasant, parking always available, the studio was comfortable, and the price was fair. The only thing missing was an Engish TV channel. Hope tostay there again.
for me its a 3 stars clean hotel you have to pay for every thing but still its good comparing to the others in town free parking , you have to take your luggage your self, the one bedroom suite has bedroom, small living room with sofa bed and small kitchen
