HAVING STAYED IN HOTELS IN 5 DIFFERENT CONTINENTS -THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!
Avaliou em 16 de Julho de 2021
Awful Basic Room -meant to have Sea /Terrace View " as described on web site all room's have either!! "- Overlooked a noisy CAR PARK next to a camping site with lots of noise /music up to and after midnight. Hair found within the bedlinen. NO HOT WATER TO SHOWER. When advised to Reception the response was" NO ONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED"!! No menus in English / No Vegetarian option. Do not understand how this Hotel obtained a 4* rating 3* at a stretch but more like 2* in my opinion. More importantly I believe an audit from a French Health and Safety Department need's to be conducted to ensure that covid requirements are being adhered to. During our visit COVID rules on 1 meter Social Distancing was NOT MONITORED OR ADHERED to in the Restaurant. I was "TERRIFIED" I was going to contact COVID. Buffet breakfast with at least 50 Guests breathing over and choosing from uncovered food/ handling the same serving utensils as everyone else without using disposable gloves etc --DISGUSTING . Our stay was booked for 3 nights DBB for a 70TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, No Food consumed at Dinner nor at Breakfast for the reasons stated. Checked out after 1 night's stay. We were charged 525 EURO 10 CENT for the worst experience ever encountered in a long history of staying in Hotels, as mentioned previously in 5 different Continents. The Duty manager was very professional and tried to resolve some of the issues by offering an upgrade with a sea view which we would be charged for! / an opportunity to discuss vegatarian options with the Kitchen/ to have our bed linen changed / or to dine in our room. We may as well have stayed at home where health and safety would have be adhered to and where there would have been atmosphere. After careful consideration on what was offered we decided to check out as we believed the lack of Health and Safety in the Dining room/coupled with the external noise /no guarantee of Hot water being available etc was not part of what we expected for the Birthday Celebrations. On checking out the Duty Manager advised that we needed to contact booking .com requesting a refund as this was not possible at the Hotel!! / After contacting booking.com to advise of the numerous issues/ a Birthday Celebration ruined /not to mention checking out after 1 night of 3 and concerns about our Health and Safety we were advised that the HOTEL Refused a refund!!!! Now feeling very confused Hotel stating a booking.com issue and booking.com stating a Hotel issue. on what was meant to be a romantic 70th Birthday Celebration turned out to be a disaster. HOTEL IN REALITY NOT AS DESCRIBED ON WEB SITE NOR ON THE BOOKING.COM WEB SITE. I am a genius member of BOOKING .COM if that's how I am going to be treated --what more can I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Rooms mediocre, location excellent

The garden or sea view promise is a car park in our case, the room has no surface, drawers or shelves, the tiniest bedside tables, the bathroom has nowhere to place a towel while you shower! Premier Inns offer better room fittings. The carpets are worn, walls scuffed. Good: there is a safe, good sized double bed, the restaurant is good. Location is of course fab within easy reach of walking paths, beach, etc.

Nice welcoming receptionist, the partial seaview room was quite small and the furniture very basic. The rest of the view is ... the camping next door. The bathroom is very very small. All the doors in the corridor bang loudly because of the way they are built, this is quite an annoying noise..There is a private parking and it is not the one in front of the hotel which is public. The location of the hotel is good and almost right on the beach, there is just a public parking in between. Overall the staff is super friendly and helpful. Didn’t try any of the treatments at the Thalasso but the heated pool is wonderful.
Great location but the hotel is more like a Novotel

Firstly the positives - the hotel is near the beach so it is definitely worth paying a little more to have a sea view room. We happened to see a room next to ours which was a suite with a seating area and a sea view and this was a much nicer room. Our room was quite small, with a nice balcony. No air conditioning or fridge. TV didn't work. Nice and quiet at night. No noise at all (and I am very fussy with noise). The carpets in the hallways are quite worn. The service and the girls on reception were very friendly. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. We cycled into Granville the second morning for breakfast. It's about 10 min cycle on an electric bike into the main town. The reception staff let us bring our bikes in at night and locked them into a room which was nice. The spa is nice, it isn't wonderful but it's an added bonus. Unfortunately the steam room wasn't working when we were there. Theres a sauna and swimming pool with massage jets. Sunbeds outside on the terrace. Dressing gowns and flip flops are supplied. We had a massage on our last day. Despite asking for a firm massage when booking, also mentioned it prior to the massage and stopped the lady after 10 mins to ask for a firmer massage, it was still very light. Also no music and could just hear the air conditioning rattling in the hallway. I also asked if there was music but nothing happened. Very disappointing. All in all we had a great stay, it was useful that we had bikes. We were there for Bastille day and there was an amazing firework display in the town.
Average hotel on a lovely beach.

It can be a little tricky finding this hotel due to the one way systems and frequently changing traffic "deviations" in Donville-les-Bains. There is a private car park a few yards up the road. Front desk will give you a code for this but you appear to have to fill in a police registration form first - not happened in a French hotel for years! This is an extremely modern (Best Western?) hotel with saunas and pools etc and facials etc if you so desire. We chose online a room with a partial sea view looking north over a scrubby field and static caravan site. The room was smallish but adequate with shower/washroom and large double bed, and small writing table, television, and kettle/coffee and tea sachets. The tiny milk cartons contained unusable solid/curdled milk substitute. Fresh ones were supplied on our second day.
Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the usual continental style though the coffee was dispensed from a machine much like you'd get at a motorway service station.
The evening menu was a la carte or fixed price limited choice dishes - which seemed common to both menus. We found that although on occasion we ordered a la carte we were served and charged as per fixed price. The dishes were nicely presented but rather bland to taste. The fish was so soft it could only have come from the freezer moments before cooking. Another of my gripes is 'cold plates'. When hot food is served on a cold plate it cools down very quickly as was the case here. The wines were very good. If you sit near the windows in the dining room the air-con can be rather cooling.
Access to the beach is past a public car park. The beach is massively long northwards and you can watch the mussels being harvested from the offshore beds at low tide.
Southwards one can walk all the way to Granville (lots of steps and cliffs) and visit the botanical gardens outside the Christian Dior house on the way. The house was closed for refurbishment the day we were there. Granville is very interesting, and a trip to Mont St Michel well worth it if you don't mind the crowds....but beware when paying for parking - the machines seem to only take debit cards.
