Great location, nice rooms, poor front-desk staff
This is a great location about a 30-second walk to the main street where there are shops and restaurants. A renovation is in full-swing so the first floor is pretty torn up, but the newly-renovated rooms are probably worth it. COVID precautions had reduced morning breakfast to some lackluster grab-and-go bags our first morning, but on the second they had reopened the dining area and had pleasant staff serving a limited-but-nice selection of food (cereal, fruit, breakfast sandwiches, etc). My wife and I each took a couple of our kids to separate rooms. She had noisy neighbors literally knocking on the walls until 1:30am the first night. She called the front desk at 11pm the 2nd night and was told they won't do anything about it until they get three calls. They told her someone on our floor complained the night before, then suggested she call back in an hour-and-a-half. That was really disappointing. Clearly there was a problem that could have been solved by a walk through and a polite call to the noisy party. Instead, we had really tired 4 and 6-year-olds for the duration of our mini-vacation. Check-in seemed like it distracted the front desk staff from whatever important task she was doing behind the counter. I saw this again when one of the construction guys tried to buy a Powerade a little later. Ignore for a while, then conduct the transaction wordlessly. All-in, it's a nice property in a great area. The new rooms are clean. Housekeeping and food service folks are friendly. Does the front desk really matter? For most stays, probably not... unless for whatever reason you need them.
front desk staff are horrible to say the least i am a gold hilton honors member little did they care room is layed out very poor i realize they are remodling but this was awful air condtiner came on and off all night even though it was turned off lady at desk really didnt care stay some where else
UNDER CONSTRUCTION, BUT QUIET!
We chose this Hampton Inn because it is in the old historic part of town...you park your car for free at the hotel and walk around town to do the shops and see the outstanding Victorian architecture. Even though they are doing construction, we never heard it. PARKING is at the side of the building but you have to walk a ways to the entrances. There are two main entrances: one with stairs and around the corner one with a ramp. CHECK IN was easy and our room was as described. It had an old style gas fireplace and a large whirlpool tub next to the bed. The room did need to be updated, but the bed was comfortable, the room clean, the water hot, the TV worked, internet was fine, and the air conditioner wasn't loud. FOOD: There is an EVENING RECEPTION that has an array of items to fill you up. Alcohol is available for a nominal fee. BREAKFAST is the usual grouping of hot and cold items. One thing different is that they have glasses of pre-made breakfast smoothies, like mango, strawberry, etc. The EATING AREA itself if on the 2nd floor in a lovely room decorated with a coastal theme. At the other end is a lounge area with sofas, coffee table, large TV , etc. I would be interested to see how it looks once they do the renovation. It is a great location for downtown and you aren't far from Amelia Island activities.
Room was quiet, big and clean
Fernandina is magical. My friend and I bunked in together the last night of our trip, so it was important that our room be big, and it was--quiet and clean. A few blocks from the beautiful beach and a short drive from the heart of the little historic town and very good restaurants, good enough for a foodie like me. I can't wait to go back.
Each time we stay here we are reminded of how wonderful a hotel this is! Friendly staff everywhere, beautiful lobby and rooms, grounds that make time spent outside enjoyable. Breakfast area and choices are very satisfying and the evening reception is a nice offering. Proximity to restaurants and shopping is another plus. Not your "typical" Hampton Inn, that's for sure. BTW, we were told in advance about construction on the property, it did not impact our stay at all. See you next time!
