Never got to visit, no refund and now ignoring my emails (including their head office).
We were really excited to visit this hotel. We had booked 4 nights and we'd gone a little over our budget as this was meant to be a 'trip of a lifetime' as part of an extended trip to other Italian cities too. Sadly due to Covid we never got to visit and the trip was cancelled, and that same week we then found out I was pregnant. We were offered a voucher for our stay (around 740 euros), however due to pregnancy and the future with a new born baby we won't be able to stay anytime in the near future. Despite this explanation we still haven't been offered a refund, despite the hotel hiking up the prices for their rooms (our 4 night voucher stay is now only worth 2 nights as they've double their prices...!!) I've been in contact with the hotel, asked the manager to call me 4 times which they haven't. I've emailed into head office, but their email address listed on their website bounces back as unrecognised. The hotel sent a message stating that I am now waiting on 'head office' to get back to me, but so far I am being ignored by head office and now by the hotel. Not impressed that a hotel chain that brands itself as 'high end' and 'luxury' can do this to people. I haven't had any issues from any other hotels, flights, attractions etc who have all offered refunds and processed them without any hassle. I wouldn't recommend booking with this hotel (or others in the chain) for the forseeable future, ie during the Covid outbreak. You don't know what is around the corner and likely to be left out of pocket if things go sour again. Play it safe and book somewhere else.
Luxurious
We stayed for two nights and loved this hotel. The staff gets an A+ for customer service. We ate at the onsite restaurant and the food was outstanding. The room was small but luxurious. It was far from the hustle and bustle right on the river which gave us an excuse to walk each day to the shop bridge and get a bit of exercise. Highly recommend! And we used the spa which we felt was worth it. Clean and professional.
Florence on the Arno
My wife and I enjoyed an excellent stay at the Hotel River for three nights in the Suite Luxury room category. This room type appears very spacious by Florence standards and the room cost was reasonable. The view from the balcony overlooking the Arno was stunning both day and night (for reference, it's far enough to the east that you cannot see the Ponte Vecchio). The hotel has a very modern design, with primarily white and black finishes and mirrors used extensively to make spaces feel bigger. The shower configuration in our room could have been improved, as each shower yielded significant water on the floor outside. There were some fairly strong incense sticks in the room when we arrived. My wife is sensitive to smells, so we put these outside. The location of the hotel was ideal for us, but may not be for all travelers. It's spot on the river provides great views, but walks to many of the major sites take a little time (generally 15-20 minutes - a great opportunity to explore the city). We did not have dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was good (fairly typical buffet). We had drinks at the charming courtyard bar each evening, which was surprisingly empty. While all staff provided great service, Matteo at the bar and breakfast was worth noting. He was professional and courteous, remembering our coffee orders at breakfast after only one day and providing nice detail on the wines we were drinking. We would definitely consider the Hotel River for our next trip to Florence.
Small luxurious boutique hotel
Small hotel not far from the city centre. It is a 10-15 minutes walk along the river to the Pallazo Vecchio and Duomo. Simple, white and clean rooms, although a little worn down. Sufficient space and furnishing. The hotel spa is small, but good with steam and classic sauna, a jacuzzi and a relax room for up to 4 person. Massages and other treatments are also offered, have not used. The hotel restaurant Franzy offers really excellent Italian cuisine at an acceptable price. The restaurant room itself was not so cosy, as it is in the basement and I was alone there. The design chairs with upright backrests are not really comfortable. The breakfast selection was good, classic italian with a lot of pastries and some cheese and ham & salami.
Perfect Boutique Hotel
This is a beautifully designed small hotel with excellent staff who make you feel welcome and comfortable yet is within easy walking distance of all the main attractions in the centre of Florence. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we have had in any hotel throughout the world and caters to most international tastes. The only minor point was that the rooms were too "high Tech" as it took 2 days to work out how to operate everything but this did not detract from the enjoyable stay that we had and we would stay there again if visiting Florence.
