Soo disappointing! Gone down hill since new ownership.

After visiting the King William 1V several times we were looking forward to another stay. We were given a room which looked as if the cleaning had been done by an amateur. Cobwebs , dirty skirting scuff marks on walls and worse of all mould in the bathroom even on the ceiling. The bedding had been changed to corporate striped and the bed was really uncomfortable. Not even a valance covering the base of the bed. The new owners have obviously spent as little as possible. The whole place looks tired. Having said all of that most of the staff were friendly and the cooked breakfast was very good. The choices on the buffet were limited compared to previously. This place in no longer value for money, 4* Inn nowhere near! Sadly this will be our last visit. Come back the previous owner and show them how it should be done!,

We booked to go to the King Will for my husband’s 60th birthday! I would like to say how delicious the food was! I would personally recommend “the catch of the day” which is served on risotto! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his steak! Compliments to the chef! The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive! Thank you!

Lovely Country Pub

Avaliou em 16 de junho de 2022

Lovely village pub recently taken over by Red Cat group. The room (7) was lovely and clean with White Company shower gel. We sat on the terrace with drinks before dinner and the garden was beautiful. We chose fish and chips for dinner. I had Elton Mess for dessert which I found rather sickly as there was a lot of cream. Breakfast the next morning was lovely and my husband was unable to finish his full English which is VERY unusual. £90 to include breakfast. Would return if we are in the area again.

Stay Away

Avaliou em 12 de junho de 2022

The background to us booking our 4 night stay from June 6 to June 10.  Last year we enjoyed 3 excellent meals at the KW1V even though we were staying at the Rose and Crown in Snettisham  We were impressed with the menu, friendly welcome and great staff. When we arrived last Monday about 5.00 p.m. There was no one to check us in. Another resident managed to find a person who gave the impression she was just there to help out. We were told where our room ( number 9) was located. Up numerous flights of stairs and a couple of long corridors rather than the easier direct route which we had to find ourselves. The room itself must have been the worst one in the building. Dark, dingy and tired. The bathroom was well appointed but the lighting so dark it was almost impossible to see to shave. Our first experience of dinner was a disaster.  The menu was greatly reduced and the previous specials board a thing of the past. Our waiter couldn't tell what was beer and what was cider. After an hours wait we asked the whereabouts of our food as many people who arrived after us had been served. My mussels were apparently taking a long time to cook. Obviously,  anybody who knows about mussel preparation is aware that they only take a few minutes.  When the food did arrive, my wife was presented with a soggy looking burger and blackened cold chips. My long suffering mussels dish was accompanied by stale bread but fresh chips. Breakfast was astonishing. We couldn't have anything fried as the gas hob was broken. We felt it unfair to take the very last yoghurt so left that for some other unsuspecting soul. My alternative choice of kippers could only be achieved once they'd been defrosted.  At this point we felt that we'd had enough. We informed the lady serving us that we would be leaving the following day once we'd found another place to stay. Her reaction was 'I'm not surprised others have left after one night.' Evening day 2 wasn't a lot better and breakfast was worse. I even took a photo of what was rumoured to be a poached egg. The chap on the next table ordered a ham and cheese omelette.  Fine. Only there was no ham!! The 'local cheese' selection for dinner dessert was not available. Replaced by brie, cheddar and Stilton. In conclusion. What was once a warm and friendly location is now a wreck. The staff are disgruntled and are finding it hard to come to terms with the poor way the KW1V is now run. The 'manager' was last seen by us sitting on the computer wearing a baseball cap back to front. Sorry,  but for us this is not professional.  Needless to say, all other Redcat hotels are on our 'no go' list. I haven't tried to cover the comments made by people who were returning but won't be coming back.

Treated differently than everyone else.

Me and my dad came here as walking peddars way and needed accomodation. It was for my 30th birthday and after hearing the name of the place we was expecting better. We had walked 17 miles that day with backpacks on aswell so where pretty exhausted. We came in through bar entrance as was bit confused how to even enter building and right away treated badly. It was very unwelcoming. We checked in after sitting at bar, the woman asked if we were eating there and we said yes and we were hungry after walking so far. I said I literally wanted to get in, have shower then come get food. She told us we could come down at 7pm, sit in bar then by time we decided what we wanted they would seat us at quarter past. That was perfect for us but we wasn't even shown where our room was, just told it's upstairs. Never known a hotel not to show you to your room directly but not a problem we found it. The problems started at dinner. I tried making an effort by wearing a dress that I had carried whole way specifically for this place, we came down and sat at bar at 7. Ordered a drink each, got to quarter past nobody had said anything.. half past we got given menus at bar. I said to my dad "I'm not sure what we are meant to do, do we sit here and wait?" Nobody caught on so we looked at menus, had chose what we wanted but didn't know what to do so I said to the bartender 'excuse me but where are we sitting?' he said 'oh you can sit at the bar.. or outside.. or your table is just by door there' waving us away and seemed like he was trying to put us off even going through to the restaurant bit. The people in restaurant where all very snobby and upper class so guessing that was why but our money is as good as anyone elses. There were hardly any vegetarian options but I chose buffalo califlower tacos and my dad had chicken. We had overheard them at bar saying they had no chicken left, then saying someone cancelled so they had one more so dad had ordered that thinking lucky we got last one it will be ready right away. Another half hour food arrived and was awful. Very obvious that mine was all just frozen but the taco shells where okay. If it wasn't frozen then I don't know how they can mess something up that bad. It was dripping with greece. I took one bite and wanted to spit it out. I only ate the sweet potato fries, also quite obviously frozen as I make them at home fresh and lot nicer. My dad's chicken looked dry as anything as if had been sat under heatlamp for the hour we where waiting. A waitress came over and asked if everything was okay to which I replied 'okay at best' she said sorry then walked away but we didn't hear anything else. We stood up and walked outside, came back in and out food was still sat on table so we went up to our room guessing they just put it on the room. The room was nice enough, very hot so had air con all night but slept well and bath was nice. Next morning we came down for breakfast, couldn't find anything on menu saying about vegetarian options, had to ask. I ended up having stuff from buffet table so cereal, yogurt and fruit. Can't go wrong with that considering they didn't make it so that was fine and waitress Amanda was great, very helpful and attentive. So glad she checked us out, we looked at our bill and our dinners where both on it. I said to dad 'oh they did want us to pay for that then?' Amanda asked if that was right and I explained to her what had happened the night before, she apologized very sincerely and comped them. It should have been done the moment we complained though or at least asked if we wanted something else. We won't be coming back and wouldnt recommend to anyone. Just because you have a name like 'king Edward' and 'country inn' doesn't make you all high and mighty for what is essentially just a basic pub. Such a shame as could be great. So to sum it up, Staff need retraining in customer service, update menus to show vegetarian options and get some decent food that's not frozen. Charging people £13 for a portion of food for something that probably cost 90p to buy is disgusting and a complete rip off.
