Great venue for a refreshing ale and GREAT dining experience

We were visiting Kiama to watch a live outdoor concert and booked our apartment close to the supposed venue. We arrived conducted a walking tour of Kiama CBD in search of a restaurant and possibly a cold beer. The Grand Hotel was selected for the beer as it was only 100 metres from our accommodation. We had a drink discussed restaurant options and then thought we would have a look at the pubs menu. It looked good and not like ordinary pub grub so we booked a table. I ordered a fillet steak and my wife the prawn dish. Both were sublime. We ended up not going to our concert the next day due to the persistent rain and as such needed some where to eat that night. Once again the Grand Hotel was selected and we both had different meals and once again they were great. We got talking to one of the staff and he said if you ever come again try the Lamb Shoulder for 2. He has it when he brings his mother to the pub for a meal. After our meal we thought we would check out the live band that was playing. My wife said just one song but we ended up staying till closing as the band was so good. They are called The Water Runners and we will go and see them again if the opportunity arises. On our third night out we both agreed that we had to try the Lamb Shoulder for 2. Sensational!!!! On the Thursday night before we arrived in Kiama we had attended a fine dining restaurant at another Tourist town and whilst it was lovely the Meals at the Grand Hotel were just as good if not better. I must mention the manager and staff at the pub. They were all super friendly, welcoming and efficient. You expect this but they truly went above and beyond and complimented the venue and dining experience. You must include the Grand Hotel in your dining and cold drink plans next time you visit Kiama. We certainly will!!!

The pub itself is in need of a bit of a spruce up, but the meals were delicious and plentiful. Had salt and pepper calamari for an entree, which was almost big enough to be a meal on its own. Had the steak for the main. Cooked to my liking with a delicious chorizo topping. Friendly staff.

The pizza was really just that bad that I had to write this to recommend you never ever try the pizza here. I legitimately feel sick and never want to consume a pizza again as a result of the pizza I ate here.

Excellent food that's better than traditions pub grub

We'd heard the food was excellent and there'd be ham raffles on when we went. We live up the road but I go there every now and again for a cold one. I haven't eaten there for years. I tell you what, the food didn't disappoint. Better than any regular pub food, this is so much better quality than some old schnitzel and chips. I had the Angus Scotch Fillet. Absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly to order and the jus was flavourful. There were smashed chat potatoes alongside the dish. I probably would've liked baby carrots as well so they should add something like that to this dish. The food is well thought out and just better than an average pub meal, at least my dish was. They have more traditional meals as well but check out the menu. I just felt this meal I had was better than many restaurants I've eaten at. My only issue was the table was a little wobbly and the pub layout doesn't have good seating outside the dining part. It's mostly stools in the actual bar area. So if you're after a comfy table and chair to sit at in the bar after dinner, there aren't many options. In any case, just go for a meal.

We stayed next door at the Nova. We were hesitant to eat here due to the negative reviews but have nothing but good things to say. The staff were excellent. Professional, friendly and accommodating. Yes, there were a few expletives in the front bar, but hey...don't go to a pub if you can't handle this....my husband had a chicken schnitzel with pepper sauce on the side (as requested). The chicken was cooked perfectly. The apple slaw fresh and the chips crunchy. I had the chicken liver pate. Perfect pickled vegs and crostini to accompany. The pate serve was large and a couple of extra slices of crostini would have been good. Overall we had a great experience and wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. (We ate here on a Monday night and it was very busy)
