Very Clean, Pleasant Caring Staff
As we arrived, we received a very friendly, helpful greeting from the front desk staff. After registering for our 4 night reservation and being assigned our room, we parked in the area assigned near an entrance at the rear of the building. Our room was close to the entrance, and on the main floor, so easy access. Our first impression of the room was one of high satisfaction with the appearance and cleanliness of the room. Beds were comfortable, bathroom clean, all amenities in place - except - the addition of a hair dryer to the room would be appreciated. Each day we were out, we came back to a room that had been returned to its impeccable original appearance that greeted us upon entering the first day. Breakfast was a standard hot/cold breakfast with eggs, meat, pancake maker, cold cereals, muffins, juice, coffee etc. This was satisfactory, but a completely unchanging menu got VERY unappetizing by the fourth morning so we left without partaking of the meal. One complaint - room 104 that we were in is aside the morning breakfast area. Each morning at 5:15 am we were awakened by (I assume) staff prepping the morning breakfast. Banging of cupboard doors on the other side of the wall above the head of our bed was not the ideal way to awake from an otherwise restful night. We would recommend this hotel, but AVOID an assignment to room 104!
Excellent value and location
We are a retired couple who stayed here for the entire 2020 Briar with very satisfactory results. Rooms and property kept clean despite difficult outdoor weather conditions and muddy boots of construction workers. Free breakfast is basic fare but there are numerous restaurants within walking distance if you need something special. Overriding impression of staff is rated A+ and we made sure to generously tip the housekeeper. They met the challenge. Considering what other nearby accommodation venues were charging this week, Days Inn WAS A STEAL OF THREE!
DO NOT BOOK this hotel with any group (hockey, ski, curling). Our whole team got evicted from the hotel as a whole. Lets just assume (which was not the case) that one family had done something to get evicted, they treat everyone with the same brush. Very young immature woman running the front desk. Her boyfriend sat in the front lobby interfering in our conversation. From the moment we arrived she was watching her cameras just waiting to find something to complain about. We were not notified that we had to leave until the police came our room. We were never informed why we had been evicted. Police told us that it was not the first time they have been called to the hotel. In fact the night before another team was evicted however we just assumed that they must have really done something wrong. NEVER ASSUME..It was 9 pm at night and we were left to scramble and find a place to sleep. We are still in the process of trying to get some kind of reimbursement. Others were not notified until the middle of the night, moms were sleeping and were woke up by managment trying to kick them out at 2 am! Ridiculous. The hotel itself had decent rooms.
Hotel was recently & tastefully renovated. Our room was a corner room with king bed, very comfortable, quiet and a unique layout. Free breakfast was great, the area was clean and fresh. Staff was excellent. Gym cardio equipment was all new and worked well, (although the gym could have been bigger with an area for free weights or a all-in-one weight machine). Price was the best in town with a seniors discount. Pool looked good - didn't have time to go in. Parking was easy, none of the downtown parking issues. Lots of choices for restaurants & coffee places in the area. Will return to this hotel and recommend to others.
Only take a room if your guaranteed a tub
I stayed here on February 20, 2020 with my husband while attending a concert in Kingston. I would usually never stay at a days inn due to negative past experiences with the brand but thought I would give this place a shot because I have stayed at First Canada several times and always had a good experience. This will be my last stay at this location but it’s not all bad so I will start with the pros. Pros - The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and newly renovated, the front desk staff at check in went out of her way to help. East side Mario’s right next door. Cons - The hotel has recently undergone extensive renovations in this case it wasn’t a positive for me. The first room I was checked into had no bathtub, the bathroom was itty bitty and completely unrealistically set up. The shower is directly beside the toilet so you literally need to get into the shower to turn it on which means a blast of cold water before your body is at the mercy to regulate the temperature ( I have never been chilled then burned before getting warm water.) If travelling with children a parent would first need to get into the shower to regulate the temperature. After regulating the water temp it was nearly impossible to have a proper shower because the shower is so narrow it’s only a few inches wider than the toilet and you cannot even lift one arm to the side without hitting the glass. Then there is also only a soap dish so small your tiny bar hotel hand soap is to big for it. When o called the desk to complain they said there we no king beds with a tub. And then miraculously found one. All newly renovated is the inch or more gap under the doors which made me uncomfortable you could hear conversations in the hallway clear as day I felt this to be a privacy issue as if I could hear them they could hear me in addition to other being able to see if we have a light on or not. The hotel is in a bad location and bad neighbourhood a cab downtown for 2 is over $15. Next time I will spring the extra $12 and stay at the best western fireside. They do a $100 hold on your credit card and then you have to go to the desk to check out so they can reverse it by processing a one cent payment they reverse I have never in my life seen this. But I find $100 high considering Hampton and others generally do $25 to $50
