Beautiful, serene ryokan on a quiet street

Avaliou em 11 de novembro de 2022

A quiet spot in Kyoto within walking distance from the train station, shops and restaurants, this ryokan is a gem. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated and include a coffee and tea maker. Breakfast was included in my rate and I had the vegetarian option but a standard western or Japanese breakfast is also available. The beds are low to the floor, extremely comfortable with great quality linens. The bathroom was clean and bright with a separate toilet. There is a deep, cypress soaking tub and a shower in another separate space. My room was in the north building and faced the street but had opaque screens to let in light while maintaining privacy. I will go back to Takasegawa Bettei!

Peaceful ryokan in quiet area

Avaliou em 3 de novembro de 2019

This is not a normal hotel, it's a traditional ryokan. Location is by small canal on a very small alley, a bit difficult to find. It's very peaceful area. It was about 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station, take central exit towards north east. You are given a pin code by email before you arrive, store it somewhere safe as you need it to enter the hotel and your room as there are no keys. Check-in time is strictly from 3 pm until 9 pm. When entering hotel you are given uncomfortably slippers and your shoes are put in a locker. Just follow the way and you'll be fine. Receptionists were really helpful and spoke good English. There were also maps and other leaflets available in the reception. Our room #500 was on the top (5th) floor. It was spacious and very clean. Bed and pillows were hard but duvets really soft and comfy. There was no writing desk and two of the chairs didn't have legs, I guess this is how local people are when sitting on the tatami floor. Wardrobe was smallish, had only hangers and no shelves and safety box was inside it. Bathroom was wooden and reminded me of Finnish sauna. Shower was good. Toilet seat was burning hot, luckily house keeping was able to turn it off. Fridge, kettle and nespresso coffee machine were provided. 2 bottles of water and green tea was in the room but other tea could be picked from reception. Breakfast is brought to your room at your chosen time: 7.30-8, 8-8.30 or 8.30-9. It was minimal including 2 tiny rolls, 2 small slices of ham and cheese, little juice, some green salad and soup. If you pay extra you can get Japanese breakfast. It keeps hunger away about an hour, so head for early lunch. Yukatas, towels and sheets were changed daily, but house keeping is available only until 14.00 (2 pm). We carefully turned off A/C and lights in the morning when we left, and it was quite strange that they were all switched back on by house keeping when we returned. There is no bar or restaurant in the ryokan premises and night life is about 30 minutes walk to north. We enjoyed our stay, however, as this was really different and relaxing place after hectic Tokyo.

This is unlike any hotel we stayed at, could it be from the future?

This hotel was perfect, almost too perfect. I had a strange sensation I was visiting what hotels would be like in 2030. The service staff are Japanese dressed in Kimonos but speak perfect english, they were so helpful. The building and rooms are flawless, like they were built yesterday and we were the first people to stay there. The toilet and bathroom has automatic lights, the toilet seat lifts when you enter. If you enjoy or seek neatness, cleanliness and perfection then I highly recommend this hotel. Located in suburban streets but a quick walk to restaurants and also the main Kyoto shopping district. Japan star system confuses me, this is a 3 star hotel but in some ways it is really a 5 star.

Super hotel

We stayed at this ryokan style hotel for 6 nights. It’s got the local charm with modern touches. We were greeted by the receptionist who were dressed In kimonos 👘. As per the local tradition you have to remove your shoes and they provide you with a locker and also sandals to wear inside the hotel. We were escorted to our room which was spacious and well decorated.it had tatami mats as well a a queen size bed. There were Japanese style chairs which were very comfortable. The bath resembled an onsen made of wood it was amazing even the floor was wood. The toilet was seperate and they had provided special sandals to be worn in the toilet pls do not take it out of the toilet. It was the best toilet with the seat coming up and down automatically and different settings to clean you up unbelievable. The toiletries were first class. They provide kimonos to be worn inside the room which was cool. They changed them daily. The hotel is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the main city but only two stops from Kyoto central. You could take a bus or the subway.the train stop in walking distance from the hotel so we took the train. The name of the station is Shichijo and to go Kyoto you change trains at the next stop which is Tofukuji and the JR line which is free if you have a JR pass. If you want to go to Nara you can take the train from Tofukuji and go straight to Nara. You can also go to Gion which is also one stop away from Shichijo so it’s a central location. To go go to Tofukuji take the sub express anyway the station is manned so you can ask for any assistance. The hotel does not have a hot kitchen but you can order breakfast which they deliver to your room but do not worry there are many places to have breakfast nearby There are also plenty of restaurants nearby for your meals and we went to two places, YA YA and Asipai or curry and coffee. Both places were fantastic friendly and good food. YA YA is located near the laundromat and serve tasty Japanese food and the owners are very friendly and look after you very well. Both eateries are walking distance from the hotel on the main road. The location of the hotel is fantastic near local houses and you get a sense of living with the community. It’s a got small canal nearby with a tree lined road. There are two craft beer places for beer lovers. Now few words about the staff led by Kasumi the manager, as well as Kazuko, Maiko, and WU, They well all fantastic ever willing to assist and always welcoming and with a smile. They even gave us Instructions in Japanese to give to the taxi .Even the other staff members who did the housekeeping were helpful sorry I couldn’t get their names. Thank you to all. When you book at this hotel you are sent a password to get into the hotel and the room . Make sure it is recorded somewhere safe. The reception is close from 10 pm to around 7.30 am so if it’s misplaced you may not be able to get in. We would definitely return to this hotel we loved Kyoto for its history, beauty and charm. This is a super hotel with great customer service and definitely worth a stay. BTW the taxi cost from the main Kyoto rail station to the hotel is 850 yen . We took a cab as we had baggage on our return journey it cost yen 1050 so it’s not a big amount. If you are taking the train with JR pass to Tofukuji it’s free and 150 yen per person from Tofukuji to Shichijo.

Simple Elegance with Modern Touches

Avaliou em 7 de junho de 2019

A lovely mix of old Japan (kimono clad reception staff) and new (keyless touchpad entry), we wish we could have stayed more than one night. It was very quiet, with a serenity about it, and made me want to simplify my life Kondo style! Western breakfast was okay, and had the really tasty apple juice. Best feature was the ofuro (bath), with the scent of its wood. Would love to go back!
