Beautiful old French house in unspoilt countryside

We received a very warm welcome at Le Chalet from brothers Bill and Daniel. The house is charming and is set in extensive grounds. The house has an atmosphere of faded grandeur - it has a lot of original features with antique furniture, rolltop baths, marble washstands, etc. Lovely paintings adorn the walls - painted by Bill and Daniel's mother. We had a room at the top of the house - a lot of stairs to climb if you have - like we did - a lot of luggage. We slept really well - lovely white bed linen - and there was total peace and quiet - just the occasional rustling of the trees in the wind, which was lovely - a really tranquil spot. This is not the sort of place where you expect all 'mod-cons' but we did feel that there were a few things that could be updated and improved such as the towels - we had one small rather tired and discoloured hand towel each - no bath towel - and the bathroom could do with a really good clean and refurbishment. The lighting in our room was poor - just two tiny bedside lamps - not enough light to read by. We enjoyed the breakfast - sitting round a large table with the other guests eating fresh delicious croissants and baguettes with jam. The house is in a great location - close to Dieppe for the ferry and close to lots of lovely places to visit including Veules-les-Roses which mustn't be missed - have lunch at Les Galets (Michelin 2018). This is quite an individual and quirky place - go with an open mind and experience something rather different! It is more like spending the night in a 'family house' than in a 'hotel'.....
Needs a bit of a refresh..............

No category between Average and Very Good so can't say Very Good. Brothers Bill and Dan very welcoming to their attractive home which needs a good spring clean and attention to some basic house maintenance. We don't mind 'quirky' and try to keep our sense of humour when stepping into these fading houses of which in France there are hundreds, but this place needs a bit of a lift. However, it's very well located just a few miles up the coast from Dieppe, is reasonably priced and includes an adequate breakfast and plenty of parking space.

We had done our homework so there where few surprises. The house is in its own grounds and has tennis courts and ample space for barbecues and picnic areas.Dan,Bill and Justine are very nice and make you feel very welcome with plenty of knowledge about the surrounding area. The bedrooms are large and clean with nice crisp white sheets and plenty of hot water.Breakfast is served in the dining room with nice China tableware. At the end of the lane there is a small cafe that does a lovely lunch for 2 at around 30 euros. We would certainly look forward to returning for the peace and tranquillity.

Very nice old-styled normal mansion, , very good location, quiet , in the countryside, very near Dieppe and Veulles-les-Roses. Charming owners;Nice breakfast in a very old-style lounge , very original , But the house needs works and maintenance , very bad heating, bathroom without towels, shower gel etc.... stairs to the floors, difficult to bring baggage to the 2nd floor. TOO EXPENSIVE.
Interesting Classic French 'Grand Maison'

The property is a very interesting and fairly historic 'Grand Maison' set in its own grounds on the edge of a very small village. The owners are welcoming and keen to help you with ideas on what to do and where to eat. The rooms are classic and interesting, quirky would be a fair description, they were clean and well appointed, the bed was quite comfortable and the water was hot and plentiful. A basic Continental Breakfast (Bread, Croissant, Butter Jam, Coffee) is included in the room rate There are some tennis courts available and plenty of private parking. The property is ideally located for access to several coastal resorts. I would be happy to stay here again A short walk down the driveway brings you to a small shop and bar which would make an ideal evening location if you wanted to do a lot of French 'nothing' i.e.drink some wine, eat and talk as the slow rural world meanders past you. Unfortunately on the night of our stay it was early closing so we went to a restaurant (recommended by our host Daniel, thanks Daniel) on the coast instead, Very nice place but we did have to drive C'est la vie.
