Very disappointing for return visit

Avaliou em 9 de setembro de 2021

So disappointing. We had been here before and had such a good time we decided to return with friends. The hotel was okay, nothing very special but well overpriced. The young man who checked us in and waited on us with the bar was outstanding. The restaurant experience was exceptionally disappointing. The waiter snooty, and condescending. The food mediocre. Pork and lamb were filled with fat. Other items unremarkable, including dessert. The mushroom appetizer was excellent tho.

In need of refurbishment

The rooms are old fashioned, with chipped walls, no sound proofing whatsoever so you can hear absolutely everything going on in the adjacent rooms. The pool is tucked away down by the car park and has stained water line tiles. Dinner was fine, but not Michelin star quality. Breakfast was a very basic buffet. Pretty location. Overall quite disappointing.

Great location on the Dordogne valley journey. Excellent food and wine in another picturesque tranquil setting of the Lot region. Superb customer service and business leadership. Love to visit again such a peaceful and enjoyable location.

A magnificent weekend

A hidden place, both hotel and a first class restaurant, ran by the 5th generation of the owner family, all this within a valley surrounded by large cliffs and gardens. Great hospitality and service, highly recommended !

A very very poor meal and a petulant chef

Firstly this hotel is in a beautiful setting, and gorgeous inside. Another positive is the majority of staff were delightful, in particular Marie the receptionist and the wine waiter. That’s where the positives end for us. I ordered a mushroom terrine followed by the fish. The terrine was slimy in texture and swimming in what looked like a pile of vomit. The fish.......honestly.... is the worst plate of fish I have ever experienced. The flaccid fillet was sitting on a purée the colour of unwashed socks, and served with puréed potato. Suitable maybe for someone with no teeth, not a texture anywhere. I tried, but failed to eat this revolting dish, as did a woman behind me. When the head waiter asked if everything was alright I politely explained that I was disappointed, the texture too soft and the purée unappetising. This ridiculous man becomes aggressive at the table causing a scene for all his diners to witness, crack on I thought, you making a fool of yourself, finally he stomped off shaking his head and muttering through his audience. I thought that’s the end of that, I guess they are not going to waiver the cost of at least the fish, let’s enjoy the remainder of the evening. We asked the wine waiter if we could move to the bar with our drinks, he was more than happy to help, as we walked through with our drinks a scene which I can only describe as from Faulty Towers unfolds - honestly I’m not making this up! Head waiter comes out looking like he’s taken some speed eyes bulging and tries to grab - yes grab - my drink out of my hands attempting to drag me to the kitchen to ‘face’ (his words) the chef which turns out to be his brother. The restaurant diners are now enthralled with this exciting piece of theatre playing out. My husband is now moving in to calm down the rage of the Rottweiler waiter. To be fair his brother was not so aggressive, he exuded more wounded petulance, he has been cooking perfect fish for 40 years. I could only repeat that I found the meal disappointing, thinking I’m not quite sure where we were heading with the conversation he says he cooks to perfection, it’s his house, and if I didn’t like the fish I can get out. I did say to him that he had an audience of diners who were all watching this to which he relied his house his rules. Charming. We didn’t leave, and had no intention of doing so, we enjoyed more wine and the brilliant service of the wine waiter, and had a good night sleep in a beautiful room too. So, if you want to witness comedic faulty towers behaviour from the two brothers, eat crap food in a beautiful setting and pay a small fortune for it then this is the perfect place for you. However if it’s outstanding food you are after head down the road to La Terrace in Meyronne now they truly know how to cook a perfect piece of fish.
