Maravilhoso Hotel
"Mediocre" would be generous
Look. Not the worst place we've set our heads down. But the cost per night - almost $300 - far outweighs both the level of service and the value of the facilities. The room we were checked into had very clearly not been vacuumed, and had not just food and hair on the carpet, but flaking paint from the windowsill. A problem throughout the old resort. After promptly returning to the front desk to complain, we had to wait 40 minutes for a new room, and we were exceptionally disappointed after the long wait to find we had a view of the car park instead of the valley, which our first room overlooked. Logic of trying to put one's best foot forward could not prevail in explaining our displeasure to the staff - the response a simple "There's no guarantee which view you get at the time of booking". While there are many facilities at the resort, there's also a marked air of penny-pinching - almost all rides/games in the kids area are coin-operated, pool towels can't be taken beyond the pool, the indoor "heated" pool was very cold, etc. No one manned the queue for breakfast, so it was extremely difficult to socially distance, rendering the lack of buffet and forced seating time a bit pointless. Eggs were cold and toast dry. I'd recommend a brekkie in town for anything beyond functional. A huge shame. Fairmont has the markings of a glorious resort gone to seed. The pandemic has no doubt hurt their bottom line, but the place was jam packed throughout our stay. This being a Sofitel property, and an M Gallery no less, we expected far better. Would not stay again.
Family getaway
We stayed 2 nights here and will definitely be coming back !! We had two adjoining rooms suitable for our teenagers to have their own space. The rooms were spacious yet cosy & carful attention was paid to ensure that we were COVID safe.. The shared facilities such as gym & pool were cleaned regularly & the booking system was efficient to keep check of the numbers at any given time.
Great experience & very relaxing
As soon as we arrived the service was excellent and we were constantly greeted with a smile and friendly voice behind every face mask. Every table was sprayed and cleaned after every guest left in every dining room we entered. On arrival we were welcomed by Angeli who organised a complimentary cheese platter for our mini moon and later that night we were treated to a beautiful surprise dessert. Our stay at Fairmont Blue Mountains was a great start to our marriage. Will definitely be going back when I'm in need of another getaway.
