Lots of Potential -Marriott Needs To Up Thir Breakfast Game

Getting here was pretty easy. Parking was a breeze. Check-in was not so easy. Check-in clerk claimed to not have my confirmed reservation! She misspelled my last name even though she was looking at my drivers license! Once I was in my room, it was comfortable thanks to facing the sun with the shades wide open. Unfortunately, that's the best it would get as the heat pump was unable to cope with the single-digit wind chill that night. Either the thing didn't have resistance elements, or they weren't connected. Big fail! Also, the thermostat claimed the heat was controlled by on the wall unit. It was controlled by the window unit. Another fail. (See photo) Also, the bedside clock was broken. The side display was OK, but the front display was not. (See attached photo.) While the housekeeping of the room was OK for the most part, there was a really bad scuff mark on one wall. (See photo) The shampoo, conditioner, etc., in the bathroom are in the shower in large refillable bottles, branded "Alice" after the wife of the co-founder of Marriott. Finally, at this price point, Marriott seriously needs to up their breakfast game. The Summerfield Suites I stayed at in Arcadia, California had a better breakfast than this place. The breakfast I'd had a couple of days earlier at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Winchester, VA was better. Carbs from breads and fruit with a choice of only orange and apple juice doesn't cut it when your competitors are serving scrambled eggs and a breakfast meat. Summation: Suggested. But, there are better chains nearby. Marriott needs to pay attention to the little details, per their founder quote on the wall facing the elevators.

Jennifer Bontuyan is an Outstanding Guest Service Manager

I arrived 30 minutes before check in at 2:30 pm on Dec. 26 and was greeted by Jennifer B. who is the consummate professional at what she does. I had a reservation for 2 queen beds even though I was by myself because that was the least expensive room type. I had also requested the 5th floor. Jennifer said the 2nd floor not facing Route 100 was what she had available. I asked her if it was possible to change the room type to a King room while keeping the same lower 2 queens price on a higher floor. She said yes and was able to assign me a King room on the top floor in the corner not facing 100. She had seen on my request I asked for a quiet location and I think she found me the quietest room in the hotel. All done in a kind gracious manner making me feel like a welcome guest at every step of the check in process. I was in my comfortable room relaxed and settled well before 3 pm. And when I checked out the next day I thanked her and she was as nice as could be. I am telling you with someone at the front desk like her I did not want to leave. She appreciates the hotel guests in the finest sincere way. While I usually stay at Hiltons, I needed to stay at Marriott brand property before the end of the year to retain my Marriott points since I had not since before the pandemic began. Overall I was pleased with my stay. The room was spacious and very clean. I found the bed to be very comfortable. It is convenient to have both a small refrigerator and a microwave in the room and I believe both are in all room types here. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast is complimentary and I found it adequate with a variety of both hot and cold items. I found it better than what some other reviews stated but I believe it has been adjusted since those remarks. No, you do not have to microwave wrapped sandwiches; they are in a covered warming dish. Coffee is good too. Not a great breakfast, but reasonable for a free and included breakfast. There was some problem with thin walls but it was doable as I brought ear plugs with me and the heating unit fan helped drown out noise of people talking loudly too. Unfortunately the heating system makes the air very dry. I am glad body lotion was supplied as it really dries out your skin. I did not have trouble sleeping but without the ear plugs I would have. A couple things: 1. When I walked to my car later in the afternoon after checking in I encountered the man working behind the desk with Jenny smoking. He was not in front of the entrance door, but he was a few feet to the side. So, it was somewhat more respectful of guests than standing right at the entrance but I still had to breathe cigarette smoke as I walked out of the entrance area. I offer the suggestion he walk farther away outside to the end of the building. No guest should have to breathe cig. smoke anywhere near the entrance. 2. Unfortunately one of the guests had a modified muffler car. He "gunned" the car over and over when he was in what was otherwise a quiet parking lot. I was on the 5th floor and the noise sounded like it was right outside my window. He did return late at night but he did it that time only briefly. But earlier, several different times in the afternoon and early evening he inflicted this noise over and over to everyone within hearing range of it as loud as possible. Of course this is not the fault of the hotel. This hotel is overall a solid 4 rating property. It is not a 5 rating place. However, my rating has to be 5 due to the phenomenal manner in which Jennifer proceeds with guests. It really is special and made me very glad I chose this hotel. Yes, I would return. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Let me put it this way. There are 5 star hotels such as the Mandarin Oriental brand who would be very very fortunate to have Jennifer Bontuyan as the head concierge/ head front desk person. She is that good and I am not exaggerating. (Not that I could ever afford to stay at a Mandarin Oriental Property. However, Jennifer gave me a glimpse as to what it might be like. ) The Filipino community is known for their gracious and welcoming manner, so I should not have even been surprised.

Shuttle to the airport

This is a convenient hotel to live near the BWI airport. The staff is very helpful. We stayed here when our flight was canceled. Its near a huge mall and casino. They have a hot breakfast in the morning. They have a shuttle to the airport. You have to sign up for the service. The rooms are very comfortable.

Hotel with Great Location and Services

I had two great stays at this hotel this year which has a good location and other great services. I had a very flight for both stays, but, the driver for the shuttle provided by the hotel was very on time to drive me to the BWI airport. Also the lady at the front reception gave me some yogurt and fruits because I needed to leave before the breakfast starts. All the staffers whom I had interactions are very friendly and helpful, especially the general manager Marco Guloy who responded to my inquiry and request very promptly. I really enjoyed my stays at this hotel.

Breakfast didn't work for me

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights. This hotel is well located - convenient to major highways, shopping, etc. The bed and climate control were good and everything is good repair. My major complaint is what is offered for breakfast. I have traveled a lot and use chain hotels mostly. Occasionally I stay at non-chains. In any case, I usually try and stay at 2 & 1/2 - 3 star locations that offer included breakfast because I like to eat breakfast first thing in the morning and I find these arrangements offer good value. I don't know who decided to change the standard mix of breakfast items for this Fairfield but IT DIDN"T WORK FOR ME. Their "breakfast sandwiches" didn't taste as good as an egg McMuffin and some were pre-spiced. Their pastry type selection was very limited and, again, I didn't like it. When they offered waffles they were the warmed up frozen variety, which one morning they offered even though they had run out of syrup. In any case, if you don't care much about the breakfast or what I've described appeals to you, this hotel should be fine. I'm not going back when I have other better options.
