A total gem, well worth multiple visits

Avaliou em 29 de janeiro de 2023

This is our fourth visit to The Priory over the last year - it is such a gem of a place you will want to return too! A beautiful old building with a lot of history lovingly restored by Sarah and Chris, this is a very beautiful but also homely place to visit. We have stayed in the top floor room with the beams, the other top floor room and the blue room and all are spacious, comfortable, with really great baths and fantastic showers. The beds are very comfortable, and you can tell the sheets, bedding and towels are really top quality. The hosts are friendly, extremely helpful, with good tips and local knowledge and are also great company. Nothing is too much trouble - one visit my husband hurt his ankle hiking and Sarah organised an ice pack for him to bring down the swelling. This time Sarah has kept my heat pack warmed for my bad back. The breakfasts are among the very best we’ve had anywhere. A big selection from a “fry up” including local black pudding, smoked salmon, halloumi and avocado. Try the mushrooms fried in butter and the oven roasted tomatoes. If you’re looking for a very special stay, somewhere you’ll be treated a mix of royalty and family, then you should stay here.

What a wonderful weekend away at The Priory. A friendly welcome awaited us and the accommodation was beautiful, characterful, and spotless!! Nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent! The yoghurt, fruit compote & granola for breakfast was delicious. I absolutely loved the horses trotting past the window on a morning..a great way to start the day, this place is country living at its best! Thank you so much, I hope we get the chance to come back!

A jewel in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales

Avaliou em 25 de setembro de 2022

The Priory is a real jewel in the heart of the delightful village of Middleham. We had never been before or even heard of it! Our host Sarah was so welcoming and friendly- nothing was too much trouble. We have two Labradors who were made to feel as welcome as we were. Sarah prepared a chopped up sausage for their breakfast both mornings we stayed! Breakfast was second to none made with locally sourced produce - the bacon was particularly good. Our room was on the second floor of this beautiful Georgian house. We had a large copper bath in the bedroom- which was pure luxury- especially after a long days walking in the idyllic Yorkshire countryside which surrounds the village. Our room overlooked the main street- and in the early morning the horses from the local racing stables pass by on their way up to The Gallops on the moorland which lies a short distance up the road. This is the Northern centre for race horse training and there are many stables in the surrounding area. It was a wonderful sight to behold seeing the thoroughbred animals galloping across the race track next to where we walked the dogs! There are several pubs in the village - all dog friendly- we had a delicious meal in The Tack Room which was a short walk from our guesthouse. There are fantastic walks from the front door and as an added bonus, directly opposite The Priory is are the magnificent ruins of Middleham Castle - the ancestral home of Richard III. All in all a most charming village- we will definitely be returning to The Priory!

Another heavenly stay

We've just returned from another fantastic stay at The Priory - this time with our little dog in tow. It was just as great as our last visit, if not better. Due to the lovely weather, we spent a very peaceful afternoon in the sunny garden with a bottle of wine and the papers - it's such a special garden, with old castle walls and an enormous apple tree. We stayed in the Blue Room this time as this is a dog friendly room. We couldn't have been comfier - lovely bed, great decor and a luxurious bathroom with separate copper roll-top bath, and walk in shower. And the smellies in the bathroom were delicious. We also spent a bit of time in the living room which I'd love to do in the winter next so that we can have the fire roaring! Sarah is such a wonderful host, we could have talked to her all day. She was kind enough to help us arrange a tour of the local racing yards which was a seriously special experience for my horse-mad husband. We can't wait to return again soon and will be bringing friends with us next time!

Excellent Choice of Hotel

From start to finish Chris and Sarah were excellent hosts. We were a group of 4, 2 couples with 2 dogs. The rooms were amazing. Immaculately clean with everything you would ever need for a weekend away. The breakfasts were wonderful, even the dogs, Dora and Bear got sausages! Middleham is a lovely village with plenty of good pubs and excellent restaurants nearby. Excellent base for a walking weekend. Will defo stay here again if in the area. Thank you Chris and Sarah, Karen, Dave, Sam & Emily, Dora and Bear xx
