Closed pet room reopened due to over-capacity - Musty/Smelly!

HORRIFIC 2-night STAY! We called the hotel in advance to let them know we needed a late check in. After traveling 4 hours, arriving for check in at 10:45pm, we were provided a room that had a weird musty smell. The a/c was turned on in hopes to air it out. We had an early morning and went to bed. The smell continued in the morning We advised the front desk and were told the hotel was at capacity and we could not move rooms. All other local hotels were booked as well - we checked!! We were out for most of the day and upon return the room smell persisted. On check out, we complained about the odor and musty feeling in the room, requesting a refund or compensation. The staff stated the hotel was going through a renovation, and the room we had been placed in was previously CLOSED OFF as a result, as well as being a prior designated pet room. Because the hotel was at capacity for the nights of our stay, our room was released for guest stay. They were "really sorry" advising the cleaning staff tried to get rid of the smell but were unable to. We were directed to call the main customer service number for Comfort Inn. We were never told the room as a designated pet room. My son has severe allergies to pets and experienced 2 weeks of respiratory illness as a result of this hotel's negligence. Upon calling the main customer service number, we were offered one night's stay refund. Absolutely ridiculous! If you are needing to stay in this area - look to the Culpepper area!!

Stay away at all costs!

It is so rare that I leave negative reviews, but it is so unfortunate that the Comfort Inn in Orange-Montpelier is just so poorly managed. Where do I even begin? First off, with the exception of the younger gentleman with glasses who works the front desk, everyone is extremely unprofessional and rude. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone at the front desk, and when answered (on an average of one out of twenty calls), you’re simply inconveniencing them by calling. Oh, and, the manager? I've been transferred to her multiple times, various weeks, left messages, but she is apparently just too busy (keep in mind, this is a small town and this hotel barely has guests). When the manager finally picked up, she asked what my question was regarding with an attitude, and then hung up when I explained the situation. I called back twice, was transferred to her, and she did not answer. No solution provided, no professionalism in acknowledging the issue, no basic-level communication. Her management capabilities are well-reflected through her other employees who we have dealt with, sadly. Unfortunate customer service and management, once again. Second, if you’re thinking of booking a room block here for your wedding, don’t. I have several room blocks at different hotels in Orange/Gordonsville/Charlottesville for my guests, and this Comfort Inn was one of them. When I originally called in November of 2021 to potentially secure a room block, it was impossible to reach anyone. When I finally went through Choice, they called the hotel for me, and of course, Comfort Inn had to answer to Choice. It was finally then I was notified that they were going to close down by this year for renovations. Fast forward to April 2022, I called to book a room for another occasion since they showed up on sites like Booking and Travelocity - they were no longer closing, so we booked a room block (again, it took several calls and emails over a span of weeks). When we checked in for our stay to check out the rooms and amenities that would be provided to our out-of-town guests, nothing was as advertised on the website. Yes, it’s a Comfort Inn, not a Ritz - but just even the basic amenities. They gave us false information on the capacity they had in the event room, the amenities weren’t properly functioning, the pool was not functioning, etc. We decided to not stay that day and stayed elsewhere. Trying to get a reasonable refund out of them is difficult as it is the manager’s decision and, well, I previously mentioned our experience with the manager. Choice itself though, has been much easier to work with, and we filed our complaints with them - they are working with us to get the refund. I have stayed at a number of other Comfort Inns throughout the country and this location is by far the worst. The Comfort Inn in Orange should have just closed permanently. My review is simply my experience and a warning for those who are considering a stay in the lovely area of Orange and its surrounding towns. My intention is not to jeopardize anyone’s job. A message to any staff at the Comfort Inn in Orange - your manager does not run this hotel in any sustainable way. If that’s how she treats her guests, that’s how she’ll treat her employees. I highly recommend running to find employment at the various other hotels in the area - including the brand new Comfort Inn a couple minutes away, off 29 at Timberwood Boulevard. I have had the fortunate experience of dealing with their manager, Veronica, in regards to switching over my room block, and the difference in professionalism and kindness is unmatched. My experience with Veronica is the experience I want my guests staying at Comfort Inn to receive when coming in from out of town.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I made a reservation for 5 rooms for a graduation weekend and called back a couple of months later (and 3 months before the scheduled stay) to change the dates. I didn't know it at the time, but the hotel employee completely botched my reservation. When I realized a few days before our trip she had changed one room but not the others, I called the hotel directly to get them changed. I have never been talked to so rudely by an employee, and the manager was even worse. I then spent nearly 2 hours getting passed around the corporate office only to be told it's individually owned and up to the hotel. We are now out over $1200 bc of an employee's mistake. In speaking with a friend who also had reservations at this hotel at the same time, she had had a similar experience the same day with the employee making a mistake with her reservation a few weeks ago. I will never stay here again, and I will also advise everyone I know at my son's school (on the parent facebook page all parents can see) they're better off driving to Culpeper if they can't get rooms at one of the other hotels in Orange.

I chose this location because it was central to the eight historical sites that I set out to visit. That worked out well and the hotel was well staffed clean and the free breakfast was good. Word is that the facility will be getting a renovation in January 2022. Not overdo but always helps.

Over priced $270! Not very clean.

This Hotel is way over priced. The Check In lady was really kind and very friendly. No complaints about the staff. This hotel has gone down hill since it’s opening. I stayed here when it first opened and it’s in a need of repairs. My room 216 (right across the elevator) was kinda clean. There were unknown spots on the tables and the desk chair. The bath tub had mold in the caulking and the toilet seat was loose. The bed was very comfortable and the AC was great. Look at my past reviews of places and not many get this kind of a bad review. A good cleaning and some general maintenance would do it some good. Didn’t sit on the couch or chair in room, they looked dingy. Also needing a good cleaning. I under stand things cost money to fix, pick one or two rooms a week, move everything and clean the floors, corners and furniture. Fix the caulking and steam clean the bathroom. Get back to a clean room, then keep it that way
