O lugar é aconchegante e bem localizado. E ainda tem a Sabina, a dona do local, que é muito receptiva e prestativa.
A dream come true
The Swiss Hotel is simple fabulous. The rooms are impressively clean, they are elegant, stilish and super cute. The fire place makes even more dreamy. It is also very quiet, which is greatly appreciated and the owner is so helpful trying to make sure everything is perfect, that we are happy...she’s also very funny and absolutely caring. I will certainly recommend it to my friends and I will come back. Thank you very much for your kind attention 🤗💜
I don't even have polite words to describe these people
I initially looked forward to my reservation with Swiss Hotel in Ottawa, as it seemed to have some “personality” versus the more bland corporate hotels. I know Air B&B is an option, but opted instead to support hoteliers and not worsen many cities’ housing crisis; besides which, I reasoned, a professional staff would run things far better than a profiteering landlord with their umpteenth flipped condo and "neighbors" holding night parties. The week of my booking, I got caught up in the VIA rail crisis where the entire country’s train networks were suddenly shut down with no alternatives provided (e.g. buses instead of trains). You can understand that when these emergencies happen one ends up making lots of phone calls and having to cancel many things. Most places were helpful and understanding that tens of thousands of people were displaced, stuck, and had expensive travel plans wrecked. Unfortunately, my next call was to Swiss Hotel. I spoke to ‘Sara’ (sp?) who initially sounded fast and efficient, but who I came to realize was was just a snippy, officious clerk. When I asked to cancel, citing the crisis, she refused, flat-out. I was confused. She began insisting that I go through their third-party booking system, which I’d not heard of. Initially I thought this was a simple clerical error since I'd not gone through a travel agency and tried to work things out with Sara. Unfortunately she began to yell—and I mean YELL—into the phone, angry and flustered over a simple technical or communications issue, and kept demanding I call this third party booking company they work with. I tried telling Sara that I went through their website, but she *insisted* I use their third-party system and hung up on me. I had to call back twice more, calmly trying to deal with this woman’s temper tantrums and resolve the problem. When I called the third-party travel agency their phone tree demanded login credentials and a PIN number, neither of which I had, obviously. Sara didn’t have anything sufficient for me either. When I tried to escalate, she hung up on me again. I tried once more and she yelled and hung up again. I think she did this to me five or six times in total. Sara refused to work with me, make alternative arrangements or even discuss the matter. It is difficult not to use colourful language when describing the impression she made. I’ve lost the better half of a thousand dollars to these people over what is either a clerical error or something more deliberate, I don’t know which. Although I reached out to the owner “Sabina S.” to work things out, I was ignored and have been forced to seek redress through other means. I’m sure Sabina will be by to respond at some point, but the time for talking this out has passed, and I’m not interested in being told "let's take it offline" just to be yelled at and given more runarounds and deflection through another channel. This hotel seems to be run by people with emotional issues and if you book with them, it will prove expensive and unpleasant. Swiss Hotel lacks any semblance of professionalism—or even basic politeness—and is in the habit of cashing in on national emergencies. I can’t say it any plainer than that.
Charming Inn - Superb Alternative to Corporate Chains
This charming inn is in the middle of it all. Just a few blocks from Rideau Centre, Byward Market, etc., yet still feels residential and European. The inn is expertly managed by a caring inn keeper and is meticulous and thoughtful in every way, from the superb breakfast to rooms with Swiss ambiance and meticulously clean. Some rooms are small, so think European charm and not corporate excess and the fluffy duvets and warmth will win you over. It’s in a heritage building so you can even open a window. All so good. I will never stay in a Marriott in Ottawa again. Is very Swiss, and that’s a great thing.
