So good we stayed again on our most recent trip to La Plaine, Marin, Haiti

Avaliou em 1 de novembro de 2016

I previously reviewed this hotel and had a lot of good things to say about Eddy and his very clean and hospitable hotel. The prices are reasonable for Haiti and for a hotel that is this nice and also includes air conditioning. Since I last stayed at the Universal Hotel, Eddy has added free wi-fi which works pretty consistently and now also offers a big screen showing movies or videos out in his large courtyard. Locals sometimes frequent this place to celebrate special occasions or just to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere. Some of his staff are able to speak enough English to help you if you have questions or need anything. They are always eager to help. Rooms also have mini refrigerators for keeping extra cold drinks on hand. Always welcome in Haiti.

Universal Hotel So Good I Stayed There Again

Avaliou em 10 de outubro de 2015

I previously reviewed this hotel from a visit back in June - July. However, I made another trip to Haiti in September and decided to stay there again. It really is the best choice in the La Plaine area for western visitors to this part of the country. Management also was very conscience for my security when some protesting and road blocks began to happen on my most recent trip. The owner is a Haitian-American whose English is good and he provides very needed employment to people in the area. Armed security is also provided at the gateway. Meals are available as are a wide variety of waters, soft drinks, beers, and alcohol. Rooms are kept very clean and air conditioning runs for part of the day and most of the night. Water for showers and toilets is very reliable. Rooms also have large televisions. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the La Plaine - Marin, Haiti area.

Great Hotel by Haitian Standards

Avaliou em 2 de julho de 2015

This is a good hotel compared to what is often offered in Haiti. Especially as budget hotels are concerned. The Universal runs about $70 U.S. per night and includes a basic morning breakfast - which is often scrambled eggs with onions and peppers, sometimes also with ham. Toast is normally also served and some juice or water is also available. The rooms are clean and typically the air conditioning runs most of the night, making for much better sleep. The rooms I have stayed in or visited (2, 3, and 4) all have refrigerators and some hanging (wardrobe) space. Each room also has some spare electrical outlets. The hotel has its own generator, so when it is up and running you will have working outlets for charging your devices. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful.
