We stayed here in 'tower accommodation' - very well appointed, but also very small (as expected in a renovated tower). Bedroom was up steep stairs - not a problem but would be for anyone with walking difficulties. We had to leave our luggage downstairs and take what we needed to the bedroom, however it wasn't a problem. The terrace just outside the front door was a nice touch and used for views over the area and pre-dinneries. Dinner at their restaurant was very good, with a great selection of wines available (some rather pricey), fresh bread was wonderful and the meals cooked perfectly. Citta Dei Nicliana just wouldn't be the same without the family who owns and runs it - lovely people with the best interests of their guests in mind at all times.
Peaceful and perfect
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. The building itself is wonderful, and the renovation is very considered. Our Grande room was absolutely beautiful, with a gorgeous view of the landscape and a perfectly framed traditional Mani tower. It was also very comfortable, and its size is perfect for longer stays, plus the WiFi was good enough to upload RAW camera photos. The family (Tania, Ilias, and their son, Panos) who run Citta were so kind and also interesting to talk to and very inspiring. Breakfast was exciting, and dinner was delicious – both are held amid olive trees, but we also had the choice of eating indoors in their dining room-cum-lounge-cum-art collection and library room. The food was fresh and locally sourced. I picked lemon verbena from the garden each morning to make a herbal infusion. The staff were so thoughtful. When our room was cleaned, they could see that I had used an extra blanket at night and so they added a warm duvet to the bed, and when they noticed that I had purchased my own soap, they left us a soap dish. The hotel is filled with cats, and each one of them is fed and looked after. Tania consistently gave us helpful tips and great recommendations for locations to visit and places to eat. There’s so much to see around here that our five nights were not quite enough, even with having visited some of the Peloponnese before. Note that you need a car to visit this place. Though there is a little dipping pool in the courtyard, Mani is a region to explore, and the hotel is geared towards this – for example, there is no lunch menu (though I believe they said they could whip something up if requested). Panos told me that he aims to make the hotel plastic-free, which would be amazing.
A beautiful Inn on the Mani
The Mani is a must see. Loved our small wonderfully decorated room with delightful family owners. Had dinner there in a glorious courtyard. Food was just ok but again the setting made up for this! Not very accessible if you have walking issues though.
A hidden gem!
We decided to stay at Citta dei nicliani after seeing how cute and warm the rooms are. Uppon arrival we where offered a welcome drink from Panagiotis. A reall sencere welcome by our host and his family. Its a family owned and operated hotel and one can feel the true love that has gone to this place as soon as he checks in. We were offered a room upgrade to a bigger and more quiet room on the ground floor since the weather was bad and windy and our tower room woulde be "loud". We refused after my wife saw the "dooldouse" like room. It was amazing. A small sitting area witha spacious bathroom and a small ladder that takes you to the loft that has a the double bed (really comfoartable) It was spotless clean! We decided to dine to their restaurant and we were not dissapointed. A menu of a few dishes, using local and traditional ingrediets with a more "modren touch". The wine selection was out of this worlds. I can discribe it. Breakfast was again all traditional and local products. Only down side was that the wifi is not so strong but who needs internet while staying in a place like that. It was the epitome of Greek hospitality. Hopefully we will be able to return soon. Thank you Citta dei Nicliani family for a stay to remember.
Gorgeous boutique hotel on The Mani
Citta dei Nicliani is a beautiful tower boutique hotel in the southern Peloponnese. Panos welcomed us and is a real ‘wine expert’. His parents, Illias and Tania cooked delicious food for dinner and breakfast was local produce and beautifully presented. Our lovely room was in a tower and had a private terrace but the courtyard terrace below was a perfect spot for an aperitif with the other guests and had superb sunset views. A memorable stay during our trip to the Peloponnese
