Just retruned from a 3 night stay at the Pennan Inn , What an amazing place, wonderful staff a small yet very comfortable room with a very affordable minvbar and a welcome dram of whisky!! ,. But the bathroom really stood out , very hot water, great water pressure and lush fluffy towels, the best bathroom I have ever ecountered in this range of hotel!!! . The location is amazing as are the surroundings, an array of small coatal villages and towns, absolutely beautiful.

Magical little place both my husband and I had a lovely overnight stay. Both Monika and her husband very welcoming and friendly. Think under restrictions and just taken over the running of pennan inn they are doing a fabulous job. One thing to be aware of is step road down, but worth it . I would advice going for Evening meal before going too Inn . Especially if you have travelled a long distance, if not to bothered they do snacks. Breakfast was very nice and very generous,be warned if you have small appetite you will struggle. Very good. I personally would book sea view and will return . If you like the northen lights and its the right time of year it will be the most spectacular views. We missed the lights by one night never mind always next time . You will see this from Monika's work in their gallery. Friendly street and lovely little coastal cuppie if looking for cake and scones. Most definitely go back one day. Also if you are old enough like me (just) lol the film local hero was filmed at this location with the little red phone box . A place to get away from everyday life and chill . We wish them all the best in their new venture. The Forsyth's.
New Local Heroes

When I discovered it was possible to stay in the Inn from the film “Local Hero” I jumped at the opportunity, and it did not disappoint. Monika and Roland have only relatively recently taken this over, but made us feel so welcome, and clearly have a passion for their new home. The room was homely, with a welcoming dram, well stocked minibar, great shower and a stunning view of the sea, about 10 metres from the front windows! It looked out on the iconic phonebox and harbour. Simply stunning. Breakfast was awesome and taken in Monika’s fine art gallery. There were lots of little extra touches that just showed how much care and attention to detail Roland and Monika have brought to the inn. COVID safety was also taken very seriously, which was reassuring to find. Pennan itself is lovely but tiny, so don’t expect to be dining or drinking out. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will return - possibly to try to catch the Northern Lights.
Great potential but doesn’t deliver

Pennan is a beautiful place and the Pennan Inn has so much potential. We were really excited about visiting due to the links to Local Hero and the fantastic sea views. However, we were really disappointed with our stay. We potentially stayed during a bad time for the hosts, but we just didn’t find them welcoming and it felt like we were walking on egg shells throughout. They are quite direct and had rules that we weren’t aware of, which caused issues and several heated discussions with them from the outset. Once we were aware of the rules we were more than happy to follow them, although the hosts were clear that if we weren’t happy then we should go elsewhere. The website also doesn’t make clear that the bar and restaurant are closed. This is understandable due to COVID, but it should be made clear upon booking as it does make a big difference when there is nowhere else to eat in Pennan and it’s at the bottom of such a steep hill quite far away from any other towns or villages. The breakfast is served in a lovely gallery and the breakfast itself is good too. Pennan is a beautiful little place with stunning views. With more welcoming hosts this could be a really fantastic place to stay, but unfortunately I think we just arrived during a bad period. We wouldn’t stay here again, although I’d love to visit Pennan itself again.
The “Mackenzie” Staycation 2021

We loved this place as soon as we came down the hill and saw the view. An amazing little escape from reality - fell asleep listening to the waves crash into shore, woke up to the most amazing faultless breakfast. Lovely hosts who go over and above to make you welcome! We had the most relaxing staycation, with a few laughs along the way and will most definitely be back!!!! The coffee was also 5*!
