Too good to be true - authentic and highest quality slow food (review of the lunch)

Avaliou em 27 de julho de 2022

Truly amazing gastronomic experience, in a peaceful and beautiful setting. Each and every food is of amazing quality and heavenly taste. So many plates of various flabours and we were completely overwhelmed with the experience and his hospitality. Most of the foods were colletcted wild or grown organically by him. Honest and highest quality slow food, you can find here. We came back after one week to try again. We bought jars of olives (amazing), marmalade, mana and oliveoil. We wish we had bought more. It really feels like 'too good to be true'. Warmly recommend.

A hidden gem in the Madonie Mountains

Words cannot capture the allure of La Manna di Zabbra. On a recent drive to the Madonie Mountains from our annual vacation spot in Cefalu, my mother and I stumbled upon this agriturismo just around lunchtime. Hungry and curious, we inquired with a sweet woman busy whirling around in the kitchen. She invited us to be her guest on the patio out front, which holds magnificent views of the farm property and the gorgeous Madonie Mountains in the distance. She proceeded to create an epic 10-course lunch for us, featuring freshly made cheese, zucchini three ways, delicious sausage, fresh pasta, and more. Valerio, the farm owner and proprietor of this agriturismo, was as kind as he was knowledgable. As he served our meal, he explained the production and locality of each ingredient involved, including the manna grown right across the street that was served as the cherry on top at the conclusion of our gastronomic journey. Whether you are looking to connect with Sicily’s inextricable agrarian identity or just to enjoy the most magnificent lunch prepared from farm-to-table, you absolutely must visit Valerio at La Manna di Zabbra on your next trip to the north of Sicily.

Magnificent Slow Food Lunch (review of the lunch, not the hotel)

Avaliou em 24 de julho de 2019

The Slow Food movement began in Italy and this is a perfect example of why it is becoming so popular. Settle down in a beautiful courtyard over-looking a valley with donkeys and horses and with the mountains of Sicily in the middle distance. Enjoy a series of dishes consisting of farm-fresh local in-season foods prepared with simple perfection. Sample dish after dish, washed down with local wine, take in the peace and the beauty of the setting, the food and the company and then congratulate yourself on having the wisdom to be just exactly where you are. Enjoy.

Thanks for serving us a peace of heaven on a plate!!!

We truly had the most horrible vacation we have ever experienced - trying to escape the horrible german winter with only 8 hours of sunshine for 8 weeks (!) we went to sicily, and what did we find: german weather in perfection... We had a really bad B&B close to Catania with no heating, broken windows and a surrounding full of waste and barking dogs, so we already considered flying home earlier. But after checking the weather forecast we decided to drive up to the north - and by accident we drove by "la manna di zabbra". Now out vacation actually started. We went around the property looking for somebody to ask, and we finally found Valerio in the kitchen. Since he was just heaving guests for lunch he asked us to wait for a while and equipped us with some really good red wine - very nice way to spend a morning, since it was still raining cats and dogs outside... We decided to stay for two nights and luckily it was still raining in the evening, so we cancelled our plan to go to Cefalu for dinner. Now something absolutely amazing happened: we were the only guests in the small restaurant. It was a funny atmosphere with music that sounded like some italian Tom Waits. And Valerio startet serving antipasti - and he would just not stop anymore... It was by far the best food we have ever had in a restaurant. Lots of local dishes with homegrown vegetables, herbs and flowers; it was just magic!!! Also the main dishes were absolutely delicious! We counted up to 12 different plates of wonderful food, served with so much love and explanations to all the ingredients... Before we met Valerio and his cooking skills I said I would never ever visit Sicily again - but now I changed my mind... It is worth to travel around half the world just to dine at Valerios place. Thank you so much for this experience!!! Iris & Paul

Lunch from Heaven

Avaliou em 30 de agosto de 2017

The highest point of an outstanding week long trip driving ourselves through Sicily was lunch at this place of outstanding beauty and food. Once you have seen Pollina you will understand the expression "Manna from Heaven"Our host walked us around his property, nestled in the hill tops outside Cefalu. He enthralled us with his passionate stories of the century old traditions of his family and the neighbouring community collecting Manna from the ash trees, demonstrated his craft and we sample "manna". He and his wife then served the most extraordinary array of traditional food and some wine. There was something very magical about this place and our hosts. If you are anywhere in the Cefalu region, this place is a must!
