Visiting Alta Mira
We spent two nights here in this lovely posada, well cared for and comfortable. This very old former barn maintains many beautiful features and has been updated. Terrific breakfast, which you can take on the terrace overlooking the countryside. Comfy bed, good hot shower, and lots of nice touches. A charming old town, its cobbled roads closed (mostly) to traffic. Amazing restaurants with fresh seafood and the local cheeses and Iberian ham. A great base camp from which to explore Alta Mira
A beautiful, warm and welcoming place to call home for a day or two. It's just so charming, and the fellow working the front desk and breakfast the next day was so nice. I loved the sitting area outside of the rooms! Great continental breakfast (6 euro) with freshly squeezed orange juice and good hot coffee. P.S. It can be a little difficult to find, but it's worth it!
We decided to stay in Santillana at the last minute. Santillana del Mar is a beautiful Medieval village. La Casa del Organista (presumably named after one of the previous owners who was the church organist) is a beautiful restored 300 year old farm house. Quaint with wooden floors, beams, stone walls...a credit to the owners. This posada is located in the centre of the town so short walks to everything. Parking is available in their private car park located at the rear of the property..a big bonus. Lots of restaurants nearby. Free WiFi. Lovely breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice good value at €6.50. Host Rafa was very accommodating and friendly. We had a quiet twin room on the top floor overlooking the pasture...the only disturbance was the church bell ringing on the hour and half hour..and the cockerel..!..these added to the charm of the place. I look forward to an extended visit in the future.
We Had a Wonderful Stay!
We adored this charming inn, a 200 year old farm house that was converted to a hotel about 20 years ago. The property maintains rustic touches of the old house such as stone walls, beam ceilings, and wood floors. The rooms are modest but very clean and comfortable. There is a little bar where you can order drinks or coffee. Up on the second floor is a nice sitting room for reading and relaxing. A really nice breakfast (fresh squeezed orange juice daily!) is served downstairs in what used to be the stable for the farm animals or out on a lovely terrace in back which overlooks a green pasture where horses graze. Our inn keeper Rafa was a delight -- very helpful, full of suggestions about things to do and places to eat, and fluent in English, Spanish and French. We initially had a room overlooking the little street in front of the hotel. We found it to be too noisy with all the people walking by so we asked to switch to the rear of the house overlooking the pasture. They accomplished the switch with no problem and we were so glad we made the change. Next door lives the village priest whose housekeeper has a flock of chickens with one rooster. He crows most of the day, but you get used to it. We found it way less annoying than the human street noise. The hotel has parking for guests. We spent a month in Spain and this was one of our favorite hotels of the trip!
Perfect place to stay in this area
This is a lovely small hotel which has lots of character. It is in a perfect location and has private parking. Don’t use google maps as it takes you down a very narrow farm road - it got us there and fortunately didn’t encounter any tractors. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast at 6 euros 50 was good value, delicious with plenty choice.
