Nice and comfy hotel in Schwerin

The hotel is old fashioned and with a very cosy and intimate style. Only 24 rooms. We had no 303 which is a socalled junior suite (but one big room only). We had the view to the little inner lake, very nice.
The room was well equipped with seating arrangements and a desk for work. Fine bathroom. Clean everywhere.
Morning buffet adequate and with good selection. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed (for good mayby?)
The staff was very positive and friendly. There was a nice atmosphere in the hotel.
Parking space at 10 eur per night in the closed backyard.
The WiFi could be better - it was difficult sometimes to get connection, and there was several "fall outs".
But we enjoyed being in Hotel Niederländischer Hof
Older hotel, with fine lochside view.

An interesting hotel. First, its location is very good. A couple minutes walk from the Hbf, and from there, an easy stroll into the town centre. It's older, but the rooms have been brought up to modern standards, whilst retaining the charm of older furniture (see photo). I found my room to be comfortable with a great view. The wifi was terrible though.
Checkin was no problem with the staff having a far better command of English compared to my German. Polite and efficient.
There is a restaurant (I didn't go) a separate breakfast room, bar and lounge, all comfortable. Breakfast is continental, but Omelettes and scrambled egg dishes can be ordered.
Although there are steps from the street, there is a lift inside.
I liked this place a lot, and it justifies its claimed 4*. But, sort the wifi!
Pleasant .good location

I am torn over the rating for this property. If one were to compare it to, say a Conrad, it would not stand up to the comparison. But there is nothing like the Conrad in this part of Germany. So, for this area it rates very high by me. Just don’t expect memory foam mattresses.
The build is well over a hundred years old and while it is absolutely spotless there are some places that are a bit worn.
The lobby has some seating and there is always a samovar with tea available. The small bar is well stocked with local spirits, and the smoking room looks perfect if you indulge.
Breakfast is good with yogurt, eggs, cheeses, fresh fruit, and wonderful breads. I have it on good authority that the hot chocolate is perfect. The real treasure is the server, she is magnificent.
The front desk staff is beyond expectations. They are warm and welcoming as if you are a long time valued client. Most speak English as well as Russian (this is in Eastern Germany after all). I would especially like to thank Ms. Staat for her hospitality and assistance to my colleague who needed some banking assistance.
The room I was in had a modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. The room itself was fine. The only real drawback was a very thin and hard mattress in the four poster bed. The view out over the lake was wonderful.

Schwerin is a beautiful city and right in the heart along the lake is this fabulous old hotel. Lots of charm and character. The lobby is small but elegant and they have an old elevator to help get your luggage upstairs (or you can take that stairs).
We asked for quiet and unfortunately that meant a view of their back parking lot. On the flip side, it was super quiet (it was also at the end of the hall). The room is a good size with a four poster bed and elegant writing table in front of the large windows.
The bed was hard and could use an extra mattress support. The taps were rather squeaky which did get annoying when one used the bathroom at night. However these were the only faults we found. Our sleep was super quiet.
We were offered a welcome drink of port wine (nice touch) which we had in their small but elegant bar. The lobby was actually very comfortable to sit and relax.
We decided not to go for breakfast but the dining room looked very nice. Unfortunately their restaurant was closed for the season. Too bad because we heard it was good.
Walking is a key feature here. One could walk to the old town or up to the train station or better yet walk along the treed lined lake across the street. There is a lot going in this historic town, including this hotel.
