Beware of Policy and Poor Customer Service

I have been extremely disappointed with my experience at Homewood Suites at Sioux Falls. I booked my rooms through Priceline and they have this weird policy that every name that I included on my booking had to show their ID to check-in even though I paid for the rooms. Essentially, whoever I booked rooms for had to show their ID, even though it was my credit card that was on their booking. This is such a ridiculous policy - someone could very well use my credit card and make a booking, and as long as they wrote their own name on the rooms, I would have no control over it. The front desk person who checked me in was very rude about this policy because I couldn't understand why this was happening. To make matters worse, the same front desk staff asked me: "does your mother have documents?". If I had said that to her, I would have been reported for being racist and made headline news. I feel like we were profiled because we are Asian and she assumed my mother could not speak English and did not have documents. My mother was very offended by her question and spoke up about having documents. At this point, the front desk staff backed off and was suddenly able to add my name to my mom's booking (even though I paid for this room). Why she couldn't do this before, I don't know. I've left a voicemail with the manager, I've contacted the main customer service line, and everyone is passing on responsibility onto others. The main customer service line informs me that the manager had sent an email and it went to my spam (they knew this and yet they didn't even bother to call me). I told them I would like the manager to CALL me to explain and not just apologize in an email. Despite my repeated complaints, the manager is only willing to send me an email. Had I gotten a phone call the next morning to clarify, I would have been fine and let this situation go. I feel like this issue has been treated as an "everyday problem" like issues with the toilet. I am deeply disappointed with how everyone has handled this situation and will NEVER book with Homewood Suites again.
Hotel Staff could be nicer.

We encounter a male staff member in the pool area who was extremely rude. He snapped at us for having a water bottle and walk by another guest with the food and drink and said nothing. I understand rules, but to be rude to one guest and say nothing to another is unnecessary. Also the room we had could use updating. The bathroom tiles had grout missing and moved when we walked over them.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel! It's located in a newly built area that is clean and maintained. The staff was very friendly. Everything in the hotel was clean and tidy. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom suite and were very satisfied with its comfort and cleanliness! The breakfast was awesome. They had a wonderful variety of breakfast meats, eggs, potatoes, cereals, waffles, juices, etc. They kept the food area very clean and organized, along with the dining area - which had ample room. We were very impressed with this hotel!
Aisha Front Desk Agent went above and beyond

We stayed at this property for 2 nights and the first night we requested a wake up call and Aisha Front desk Agent went above and beyond to make sure we were awake, she called to the room, called my cellphone and knock on the door, she was great! Hotel was pretty nice and service was great! Thank you so much!

We were there in June, when the weather was nice. There is a nice courtyard, with two grills you can use if you'd like a cookout. The staff (Dona I believe?) was very helpful at check in and when we needed some more items in our room. The exterior of the building looks like it needs updating or it was getting updated? It didn't have any bearing on the interior, and our room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was typical "free" breakfast, nothing spectacular, but enough to get you on your way. My only complaint would be that there was a softball/baseball tournament nearby (kids tournament) and there were a lot of children ages 5-18 approximately, using the pool & the hot tub. The adults were either out on the patio not really watching their kids (through the window I guess?). but the kids (being kids) were very loud and there was no way my husband or I could have gone in the pool. It clearly says "NO children in the hot tub under the age of 14" but kids were in there as well. I understand it would be hard for staff to watch that area all the time, but maybe if someone reminded the adults to NOT let their young kids in the hot tub, we could have enjoyed it. I do believe there is an hour for adults only, but it's at 10pm? I am sure there are a lot of hotels similar or better, nearby. The one thing I felt was odd, was that the free toiletries were different brands?
