Greek style

Avaliou em 16 de setembro de 2022

TLDR - there are definitely some areas for improvements, but overall it's classic Greek style hotel with nice beach and good food - I expected a bit more for that huge amount of money, but can't say I was disappointed Hotel - mostly friendly and helpful staff at the reception desk - the reception is practically at the beach - rather a small "village" than a single building, so depending on the room type the distance to the actual room may vary - the staff take you and your luggage and transfer you with a "golf car" to the appropriate building Room (superior family sea view, ground floor) - the PR is probably more shiny than the reality - we could see the sea, if we try a bit (there are some tall trees in the view) - the mentioned separation of the children's part is done via big sliding white (fog) glass window (and the standard door) - the children's bed is done via foldable sofa, which produces strong sharp metal sounds on every move (maybe some springs or so) - when the sliding window and the door are shut, there is very little light in the main room area (there are no "normal" windows here) - there are heavy curtains (in the children's part) which can cause absolute darkness if needed - there is a big sliding door to the spacious terrace with two loungers, chairs, table and swimsuit/towel hang-dryer integrated in side wall - there is also sliding anti-insect net behind the terrace door (we haven't encounter almost any mosquito) - the bathroom is a bit worn out, the (in)famous greek drain pipes produce slight fungal smell, although we haven't registered any "toilet-related" smell over the whole village (as some people note for various greek hotels) - the AC unit is relatively noisy, so we decided not to operate it over night - the main bed is good, with myriads of pillows - the rest of the furniture is is also good - the standard safe box is in one of the cupboards (you need to ask for the key on the reception desk) - as we were on the ground floor, we had some visitors like ants attracted by anything you accidentally drop on the floor or leave on a tables (like the empty cup after a finished sweet drink) and also one bigger spider, which unfortunately died suddenly - the inter-room sound isolation is completely missing, so you can hear the next door neighbor's child yelling hysterically every night and morning, the neighbor upstairs walking above you, using his bathroom (standing), flushing the toilet (waterfall effects in the walls), cool stuff Room service - the ladies performing room cleaning were probably the most frank and friendly from the hotel staff - the room was cleaned every day (bathroom, floor, beds, towels) Fun - there is lot of places to have some fun, advertised regularly by the animators (darts, gaming zone, minigolf, archery, ...) - every night there is some "show" in the amphitheater also as various live music in the main bar, some of them were very cool - pools (private, semi-private, public, children's) Beach - the hotel provides beach towel (blue) per person also as their replacement on demand on dedicated place/time - the beach is hotel private, equipped with sunshades each of them having two loungers associated - the loungers are often dirty, either from the sand/salt or spilled drings (sticky) - the beach is separated into two parts (by a bigger rock) - the surface is sand/pebble mix - the water is crystal clear, mainly rocks on the bottom, water-shoes are a must have - the lounger area is rather dirty - cigarette ends, used paper cups, used diapers, common waste, although there are ashtrays on every sunshade also as trash cans everywhere - although there is a decent amount of the sunshades, it's not unusual you can't find a free place - often there is only one lounger (and three ones elsewhere) under the sunshade or the sunshade shadow is "occupied" by someone else Dining - the main dining area is called restaurant, but it's rather buffet or canteen - just a self service facility - the staff seems overloaded, some of them are still kind or even smiling, some just demotivated/robotic - the most confusing part is the random switching between the facility modes (restaurant vs. canteen) - sometimes you have to wait for the waiter to take you to the table, sometimes they just don't care and you have to look for a free set table yourself - there is huge amount of guests moving back and forth, so there is often lot of tables left uncleaned or unset - for the dinner they explicitly disallow to use the drink dispensers and you have to "order" drink by the waiter (who use the dispensers), which is highly ineffective - the dishes, glasses and cutlery are often not clean, the floor is often sticky (another sign of staff overload) - in general you have to be not affraid to ask, for missing spoon, for glass replacement, for a free set table, for forgotten "order" - additionally the facility manager is almost every time in range, some of the guests seem to be good friends of him - the food quality is good, there are repeated items, but also "daily specials", so the overal offer suitable Drinking - the restaurant and bars offers dispensers for water, soft drinks, generic wine and beer (whose quality also alternates in time) - in the restaurant there is also orange juice lottery, sometimes you get average orange juice, sometimes it's diluted by the water and sometimes it's just some artificial hyper-sweet chemical soft drink - there is also a dispenser on the beach - there are two bars providing either alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks you can take either in a glass or a plastic cup for "to-go" (beach/pool), we mainly used the bars when there was the friendly staff and avoided on grim ones - there are collection points all over the village where you can drop the plastic cups Guests - typical hotel guest is an always hungry ignorant overweighted German smoker, either retired couple/group or a couple with (often very) little children - the hotel fully accommodates to that, so every first contact is in German, the staff (mainly at the beach bar) seems to be resistant, keeping distance and poker face, next time I'll consider a T-shirt with "I'm not a German" and will see if there is any change in the staff behavior, the question is, how long I survive among the majority of guests ;-) - you cannot escape the cigarette smoke, because smoking is disallowed only indoors (which is heavily conected to the outdoor areas), so you smoke with them in your room (if your terrace door is open), on your terrace, by the pool, in the restaurant (as lot of the tables are outside), on the beach - the children are crying, yelling, screaming, damaging the hotel equipment without any sign of interest from their parents' side - the pool or beach loungers are "reserved" (they left towels or some stuff) for a whole day, although there is nobody for hours

My feedback for PortoAngeli

Avaliou em 5 de agosto de 2022

First off I want to mention all the positive things about the hotel. When we first arrived we got a very warm welcome and from that we had good contact with the kind staff team. The rooms was always clean, new towels everyday. The system with the beach towels was ok. I wish we could get some extra towels but we were not allowed. The drinks in the poolbar was also ok, everything was not all-inclusive so a bit disappointed. We got to experience the disco room, it was performed very professional with a well experienced DJ, great quality with sound and lights and there was also a bar with all-inclusive. We could wish for songs and the DJ would play it, I am very happy with the outcome of the disco. There was animation daily with activities and evening shows, for me and my wife it was too hot to join in on the activities during the day but the evening shows was interesting and we enjoyed it. The lunch in the resturant was the same everyday. You could eat it but you get tired of it easily. The food for the evening was amazing, a great variation between the food. Unfortunately we could not try the resturant by the pool because there was not any time for us to eat until the week after we had already left. We will definitely come back to PortoAngeli.

Super holiday for the whole family

Avaliou em 17 de junho de 2022

We just came back from our 10 days family vacation in this hotel. We just enjoyed it. At first, I missed fresh fruits between the lunch and dinner. They don't serve them in the bars. There you can find another refreshments. After a few days, I realized that the fruit is not needed, because I was always full after the breakfast/lunch/dinner. Usually, you should not take anything outside of the restaurant, but many did take fruits or so... We have been there over German holiday, so we could enjoyed really great program for the children and adults as well (child club, Sports for adults, evening program...) The beach umbrellas and bets are for free for hotel guests and you usually find one spot (in June). The same for spots by the pool. The beach has many stones and it is good to take shoes with. Water is clear an nice. About the rooms... We had family superior with view to the sea. We did not hat the direct sea view because of trees and buildings, but we had a view to the pool. It was nice one with enough space for the family. The children had sleeping sofa, what I would not recommend for teenagers or adults. But at all, we were ok with those. I must say, we stayed there only for sleeping. Meals in the restaurant were great. There were always something to pick. Every evening, another theme was served (Mexico, Italian, Asia, Greek...). Many salads and so on. I would recommend this hotel further.

Amazing Hotel - Thank You George!

Avaliou em 8 de junho de 2022

We stayed in one of the Gea Suites which was a great size and very clean. The private pool was perfect, and warm from mid afternoon each day. The fridge was stocked everyday with soft drinks and water. The hotel grounds were immaculate and the restaurants were always clean and hygienic with a great choice of food each day. Most days we had lunch at the main restaurant or the snack bar, both serving fresh salads, pasta and grilled meats and fish etc. We had one night at the Taverna and 2 nights at the A La Carte which was superb. Most of the staff were amazing, and special mentions must go to Anastasia on Reception who answered all of our daily questions, and also to Restaurant Manager George. George may be Porto Angeli's biggest asset! From the first day we arrived until we left, George went above and beyond to welcome us and made the Hotel and Rhodes feel like home. This is a great Hotel and we will definitely book again.

Beautiful resort in quiet location

Avaliou em 29 de setembro de 2021

Porto Angeli is very nice hotel resort consisting of several smaller buildings and pools located on hillside next to the sea. We spent there very nice family vacation, hotel is perfect for families with children (children pools, playground, various activities). Very good restaurants and very nice staff. Staff: Very polite, nice and helpful all the time. Location: Small and quiet village, no other big hotels around. Beach is sandy with stones starting few meters in the water. Beach: Private beach but due to covid with reduced capacity so if we came after 9:30 there were no sunbeds and umbrellas free. Beach has two parts. The one more on the south was usually not so crowded but on the other hand was a bit dirty. Facilities: Three different pools, children pool with slides. Unfortunately the water in the pools was quite cold. Especially in children pools would be better to have warmer water. Very nice and big children playground and minigolf. Rooms: Nice and clean. Food: Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner in main restauratn + two á la carte restaurants for dinner and two snack bars for drinks or snacks during day. The food was very good, plenty of choices. Salad buffet was perfect. On the other hand approximately 70% of dishes were the same every evening... Quality was more like 4 star hotel not 5 star. Most of the meat dishes were a bit overcooked (I prefer less done meat). What I missed at the breakfast were some normal juices. You can buy (2 EUR) fresh orange juice or you can have for free something called juice which is basically coloured water full of sugar with terrible taste... But chocolate fountain at the dinner was perfect :-) At the end we really enjoyed holiday there and I would definitely go back again and can recommend Porto Angeli to everyone.
