Perfect for what we needed

This is a very nice hotel in a wonderful location. Surrounded by a park and office space, it's very quiet and private. A short drive to stores and restaurants. Room was clean and looked to be in good order. Everything was neat and looked fairly new. Our two bedroom suite had a rare for Towneplace, and very nice, second bathroom. Kitchen was well-stocked with utensils. Dog friendly too, which is a bonus. Be sure to consider this hotel when in the Portland/Vancouver area.

I was dissatisfied with my stay for a few reasons. The pool wasn’t heated or cleaned during our stay which was disappointing. Saying you have room service but it’s actually just restaurant delivery is misleading. Charging 20 dollars at check in for “incidentals” but then saying they charge 10 dollars a night for parking. WTF!!! The free breakfast wasn’t great but edible. The room was really clean so that was nice. The front desk people didn’t wear masks which was strange when they expect guests to wear them.
A remote and decent hotel with nice ambience and a parking fee

We booked this hotel because we planned on a trip to see the Fort Vancouver Historic Site. This hotel is located about 10 miles east of Fort Vancouver and fairly easy to find. The hotel has a decent sized outdoor swimming pool outside the breakfast area. We saw people cleaning the pool in the morning, but we never used it. We booked a studio with a king-sized bed and a sofa bed. Everything fits the description as the website says except one – no dining area. The purpose we chose Townplace from other Marriott hotels is the kitchen facilities and dining area to have our meals. The studio we had did not have a dining area, we ended up having our meal on the desk with one chair only, we had to pull the desk towards the sofa, a bit odd and inconvenient. The fire-wall next to elevators have mechanical arms, it shows the hotel cannot be too old. The ambience of the hotel is quiet, and nobody was making noises in the hallway. This is very satisfactory. The shower head has multiple jets, and the volume of water is good enough for a message. No shower mat was available might be due to covid-19. The bathroom has a special feature, it has doors open to the closet at the entrance. The rest of the features are pretty standard with liquid soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The one special feature that my son and I like most is their way to serve the continental breakfast. They do not have scramble eggs, bacons, or sausages but muffins with cheese, egg and sausage all wrapped with paper. Hard boiled eggs are also sealed in a plastic bag (Costco), and so are the Danish pastries, all are wrapped separately in plastics. It gives confidence to customers that the food is not contaminated. Other than the oatmeal and the toast, most of the food are nicely wrapped to fight the covid-19. Outside the hotel and across the street has an eatery and French bakery with coffee. The front desk person told me the French bakery was good and she had never heard of a complaint. Everything was good during our stay (other than no dining area). When we checked out, the front desk person told me the $10 parking fee was the only charge. I told her I was not being informed about the parking fee when we checked in and she reversed the charges. So, make sure you clarify the parking fee when you check in with this Marriott next time.
No Attention to COVID standards - NOT CLEAN or sanitized and untrained staff

I found a dirty sock that should have been found by housekeeping. This shows the room was probably not vacuumed, and if it wasn't vacuumed, was it sanitized as Marriott promises? The sad part was that when i called the front desk, the clerk kept telling me the room showed CLEANED in her system, She wasn't staring at someone else's dirty sock. THREE times she insisted it was cleaned. They did change my room. if i wasn't staying only one night, i would have moved properties. The front desk agent also needs training on gender bias. ( i was also personally insulted 3 times) The following response also belittle my issue by saying this is rare - IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED the unclean room OR the Gender biased insults " I completely understand the risk you feel and I want to make sure all of our guests feel safe and healthy. If it helps to ease concern and to be completely transparent with you, I have worked at our hotel every week since opening 6 years ago. This includes COVID. As of today, we have not had any employees test positive and we have only had one guest who brought it in from the outside. Being a Marriott employee for over 23 years, I have spoken to many other hotel leaders and this is very rare. "
Good, Except for One Major Virus-Related Concern

This hotel was great except for one major concern. The room was clean, and it had a view of the park. The access to the parking was easy, and the front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. The concern was that this hotel has directly interconnected A/C systems. There was a small A/C vent in the living area of my room, that sounded like it was directly connected, without any barrier or filter, to the room across the hall. And the person in the room across the hall was very sick. Lots of coughing. At several times, I could hear loud coughing from that room, in the living room of my room, coming through that vent. There was muffed coughing sound in the hallway as well; but the coughing from the guest in the adjoining room was actually louder *in* my room than it was out in the hall. At one point, I could also hear someone talking very loudly on the phone in that room through that vent as well. Interconnected rooms are very concerning during a virus outbreak. Especially now it appears that the virus spreads up to 50-100 feet through air at time. I would avoid this hotel in future.
