Great family vacation at 801 Palms of Wailea

We unit 801 Palms of Wailea for a family trip staying in units 801 a one bedroom and 705 a two bedroom next to each other for the holidays. The unit brought you right into the Hawaii vibe with its surf decor. It was clean and well kept. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessaries and there were beach chairs, cooler and umbrellas. There was a large desk off the living room making it easy to stay up to date with answering email/work related items and the internet ran well. The pool and hot tub (a must in the evening) is located just a short walk away and is very low key. The units lanai was perfect and where we spent most of our mornings and evenings. It is an extra large Lanai with lounge chairs, sitting area and a large outdoor table with a grill. It is close to the beach but really not in walking distance, and it is a beautiful beach with its own parking lot. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and listen to Hawaiis natural beauty or going for a walk to the beach. Can't wait to visit Maui again and have another special trip!

Our Maui holiday

We recently (November 2022) stayed at the Palms for 5 nights. We read beforehand many of the reviews and our experience was consistent with a lot of these prior descriptions. The overall site is set up beautifully and it is well located, close to shops and restaurants and the beach. The lanais are large and well equipped with nice furniture and BBQs. The pool was enjoyable, cool but refreshing. The condo we stayed in (#1702) was attractively equipped, clean with decent appliances. It was large and had a great view of the ocean. Some things, though, needed very much to be updated, e.g. the window coverings, kitchen cupboards [doors did not close properly] the bathroom sinks and showers. Many reviews have commented on the air conditioning, and that only the master bedrooms are cooled. Our unit was no different, and this is a significant drawback. On the day we checked in, the condo was so hot and humid as to be nearly unbearable. It improved slightly as the week wore on. The bedroom AC was inconsistent and malfunctioned twice during successive nights [loud banging and hissing], and even though the front desk was notified and they checked it out, they could not find the problem. As a result, we ended up leaving it off, and thankfully, it was cool enough on these nights that an open window sufficed. However, on warmer evenings, this would have been a problem. The safe in our room malfunctioned when the batteries died [shouldn’t regular maintenance have found this problem and corrected it?] and our valuables were inaccessible. However, when the front office was notified, they were able to promptly resolve the problem. Parking is ample and convenient. However, this unit is situated on the second floor with no elevator, and quite a few stairs leading to its front door. Hauling heavy suitcases up these stairs was very challenging. A hefty cleaning fee is levied when checking out, yet we noted that our dishwasher appeared to have signs of mold. Though this complex is advertised as offering free local and long distance calls to the mainland, our phone was not working, and we were told that many of the units have discontinued land line connections. Complementary beach equipment is available in many of the units, though ours were somewhat “well used.” Checking in and out was relatively easy, and there is an after hours number to call when a problem arises.

Stayed here for 5 nights in August and wasn't disappointed at all. While on the lower end of the budget we were pleasantly surprised with the place. It was large inside with plenty of room. We hosted a small diner with some friends and easily fit 8 people inside with plenty of room to spare. The place is older no doubt, but it's clean, bright, and everything works great. My unit (#1505) was however missing a spatula, which made making eggs a little tricky. The unit had 3 A/C units, one in each bedroom, and on in the living area. Staying cool was not an issue at all. The location was convenient for us, and on the very south end of Kihei into Wailea. Not a ton of places to eat nearby aside from the big hotels. Kihei is short 5-10 min drive. Would absolutely stay here again, and the guests that came were even impressed compared to the places they were staying.

No A/C Don't stay here

The unit we rented only had a small A/C unit in one room and the rest of the unit did not have A/C and it was HOT! On top of that they charged us a $450 cleaning fee on top of the cost to rent the place with no A/C! I will never stay there again!

Terrible!

I should have had a clue when I went to the desk before check in and the manager came out of her office still chewing on her lunch. The units are very dated. It’s a VRBO property and so it’s up to owners to renovate or not. Most don’t a maintenance person here to fix several nonworking things confirmed. It was never communicated that the only A/C is a wall unit in the master bedroom of our 2 bedroom condo. And it barely cools things down. Otherwise all the windows have to stay open (if they work, several are rusted shut). The wind is so strong that nothing loose can be left on tables. This morning the coffee pot flew off the counter and broke. The ancient ceiling fans and 5 additional stand up fans have had to be on 24/7. The cable, internet and Wifi were down. We were told the system is very old and needs replacing! The unit isn’t as clean as it should be, we had ant visitors last night, screens are broken, furniture is torn, carpets are soiled, the master bath needs to be ripped out, the toilet area is ridiculously small, there is a giant tub in the middle of the bedroom, the patio furniture is old and dirty, This is day 1 and I am sure there will be more surprises by the end of our week here. The 1 rating was just for the view. Outrigger should enforce some standards on owners or refuse to rent certain units. But then again as the maintenance person said, most of the units need to be redone! The price for our stay is ridiculously high for this. Stay away from this property! It sounds like s great place to stay on the website with misleading photos but is very far from it!
