Not good

If you are handicapped, stay away! There’s nothing convenient about this Hotel. There’s no parking on the property, it’s behind the hotel on another street. Valet parks your car illegally on the street. There’s no curb cut at the entrance. The front entry door is not wide enough for a wheelchair. I injured myself going thru the door and ruined my trip. The staff was less than helpful. I never turned the bed down, I left and never spent the night. NOT HANDICAP FRIENDLY!

Hotel- Kimpton Cardinal Hotel Date- 29jan-31jan 2023 Title- Friendly Front Desk Staff; Poor Housekeeping. Great Food. Indifferent leadership. Overall: 4/5. Very good. We would have loved to give this property a higher score (It has been a favorite of ours before), but the housekeeping was truly horrendous. If you can overlook the deep flaws in that department, you will have a nice visit. The rooms, especially the suites, are quite nice, and the hotel’s unique features, like the recreation room and the unusually well-equipped fitness center, provide lots of entertainment. The restaurant serves tasty food & has friendly leadership, and the front office staff is genuine & pleasant. Unfortunately, based on the lack of responsiveness to reviews here or elsewhere, based on the lack of visibility interacting with guests throughout the property, and based on the lack of cognizance of and remedy for the seriously mal affecting housekeeping department, which is well documented in reviews, it does not seem that the hotel upper management is paying attention to the guest experience. It has seriously gone downhill since our last visit. Loyalty & Brand Programs/Recognition- 4/5. Very Good. We were verbally thanked for our loyalty, and the IHG Diamond Elite tier was mentioned by name. Our room was upgraded, and we were offered either 600 welcome bonus points, $20 Raid-the-Bar credit, or Complementary Daily Breakfast for Two, which is what we chose. In our room we found a Kimpton Inner Circle Welcome Amenity charcuterie board with some tea, along with a card welcoming us back to the property. The loyalty-building signature brand programs were a bit skimpy, though: no hot chocolate, decaf, or coffee syrups during the “kickstart” coffee, and the social hour had nothing for non-drinkers and no F&B promotional appetizers, as has been done at this property before. We were, however, accommodated when we requested the “Guaranteed 4pm late checkout” offered to Inner Circle members. This hotel’s restaurant does participate in the Kimpton Inner Circle Chef’s Taste benefit. Staff- 5/5. Excellent. The customer facing staff makes this property what it is. Hannah T checked us into the property, and she was very friendly. Because we are familiar with the property, she didn’t go over everything and let us get to our room quickly. Juwan recognized us from previous visits. Hannah B, the concierge, & Kyle, the engaging valet, really impressed us with their customer focus. Letia, in particular, though, is such an asset to this property; we will come back specifically because of her. When we came to the front desk with a concern that could have easily resulted in us leaving the property, she was considerate, understanding, engaging, and so effective at turning around the situation (& our mood!) that we literally left the front desk delighted by & laughing about our interaction. She is a model for service recovery. We will look for these staff members on our next visit. Accommodations: 4/5. Very good. We were assigned a “1 Bedroom Suite” room type, and we liked the room itself. The living room area was spacious and had plenty of seating. The bathroom was reasonably sized with a toilet area and both a shower and a soaking tub, in addition to the vanity, which also had plenty of counter space. The bedroom met expectations, having both the bed and additional seating, as well as the television. Our bedroom view was of the RJR smokestacks, which was very nice. Unfortunately, we were distracted by the poor housekeeping. Housekeeping- 1/5 Poor. We arrived to find open, half full water bottles just inside the room by the bar. Beer from the last guest was left in the minifridge. The sink and shower drain both were filled with hair, visibly so. Debris and gunk were all along the edges of the baseboards, especially bad along the sliding door. While the bed was made and there were adequate towels & toiletries, we were most upset by finding an unknown pill on the floor by the sofa. Fortunately, our pet didn’t eat it. We wiped off the nightstand, and the disinfecting wipe we used showed a black handprint where I had wiped. Had we not been exhausted and so well treated by the front desk staff, we would have left immediately. Instead, we cleaned & disinfected our own room. Pool/Gym: 4/5. Very good. There is no pool, but the recreation room is an asset. Sadly, it is unkept. The paddles for the ping pong are in bad shape, for example. The pool table could be cleaned, and the bowling alley needs help, from computer calibration to lane waxing. This room could be a selling point, but it just wasn’t this visit. The fitness center is expansive, but it is dirty. Empty cups and used towels were everywhere during our visit. The weight plates and other non-attached fitness equipment were on an adventure, everywhere around the large room. The televisions on the equipment hardly worked. The few users of the fitness equipment were vigorously cleaning and sanitizing their own equipment, which is expected to some degree, but their vigor signaled that even the resident users seem to know how unclean the equipment is. It seemed that no one from the hotel is checking on the area to clean up and organize regularly. Breakfast/Meal Options: 5/5. Excellent. The breakfast served at The Katharine is good; the dinner is much better. We enjoy this restaurant so much that we come to the area often just to dine here. The menu items are a twist on French/American cuisine, and we consistently find something new we have to try. This time we tried the Canard (Duck) a l’Orange and the Poulet (Chicken) au Poivre Flambe dishes, in addition to the Escargot a la Bourguignonne appetizer. Everything was fantastic. The restaurant alone is reason to come back to this property. Laundry- not evaluated. Computer/Printer/WiFi- 5/5. Excellent. WiFi signal was strong throughout the property, and streaming of music and video was seamless. Property Appearance- The engineering staff is customer centric. Exterior- 4/5. Above Average. The valet area is staffed, visible, and clean. Landscaping is minimal but appropriate for the downtown location. The property is well branded. Interior- 3/5. OK, when all things are averaged. The lobby is clean, and the living room area is visibly being cleaned by the front desk staff members (instead of the housekeeping, again?!?), but the elevators and elevator areas on the guest floors are not clean. Dust is accumulating on top of the elevator frames on guest floors, and debris build-up was occurring along the baseboards. It does not seem like the hallways or elevator bays are being vacuumed; there was no sign of vacuuming, and we saw a housekeeper simply kicking debris into shaft when the elevator doors opened. Other- Housekeeping was totally appalling at the time of our visit. I can see why so many other departments may be overwhelmed; it is due to the problems this department is creating/leaving that are spilling over. The front desk is overrun with complaints and routine training of associates is constantly interrupted; this is visible to the guests. Engineering is cleaning and unclogging as a result of poor housekeeping; we weren’t the only one that had to request them, repeatedly. Even the food & beverage department has to monitor the hallways for pickup, as housekeeping is clearly not notifying them of trays to be picked up. Instead, piles of towels & food trays are all over the hallways, sometimes hidden around corners or in short corridors. Management should consider solving this departmental problem so that other departments can do their jobs and the guest experience doesn’t continue to suffer.

Wonderful suite and friendly staff

Had a wonderful one night stay here last week with my mother. Had booked a two queen studio suite but wanted a higher floor, so the front desk staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a one bedroom suite. It was so spacious and the bathroom was fabulous! Water pressure in the huge shower/tub “wet room” was excellent. We enjoyed playing games in the recreation room. Also I used the fitness center twice and it was very clean. We were also treated to a bottle of Prosecco! Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a 5-star experience!

Just a Great Hotel with Great Service
Avaliou em 19 de janeiro de 2023
This is me and my wife's go to hotel when we want to just get away for a night and the number one reason is they treat you like family and they truly care about your stay. Another positive is this is just an awesome hotel in general from the rooms to the lobby to the restaurant to the location to the amazing rec room downstairs. You can bowl, shoot hoops or shoot pool, play ping pong, and much more. It is one of the best designed hotels we have ever been to and we have stayed at many hotels along the way. The rooms are fabulous with comfortable beds and great deep soaking tubs if you are lucky enough to get a room with one in it. They recognized our status and went above and beyond. I want to give a special shout out to Ray, Hannah and Juwan who all went out of their way to make this trip extra special. The Kimpton is lucky to have them because of the way they treat their customers and how much they care about your experience. This hotel will always be our favorite little getaway and we will be back soon. Don't even consider staying anywhere else while in Winston

So Gross
Avaliou em 17 de janeiro de 2023
Sadly, one of the grossest and least comfortable hotel room experiences I've ever had. Bath mat covered in black dirt after wiping up spilled water. Lipstick stains on a pillowcase. God-knows-what stains on the duvet they attempted to hide with a cover that is actually just two sheets. Lumpy pillows. Horrible breakfast in the room. Inedibly overcooked eggs and frozen potatoes. No notice of $26/night valet fee. No bathroom fan. Peeling wallpaper.
